Cool, thanks for the info guys. I just dealt with a bad flash on a P5K dlx that required me to RMA the whole thing - big pain. It's good to know about this just in case. I usually use ezflash in bios/usb stick with asus boards. I vaguely remember something about DFI using winflash on a floppy but I'll research that. I'm hoping to use USB or CD as I don't keep floppy drives around anymore. But if this board needs it I'll get one. All of the hard work using and abusing and documenting you guys have done is exactly why I'm buying this board. It's a selling feature and you guys deserve some credit.

I use 6 month old Silverstone Zeus 750 which is pretty solid, e6600, Gskill D9GMH, 8800gts, raptor drives. Should be a good fit if I did my "R" properly.

BTW how did Brother Esau create those, hot flash? Does that have to be done on identical rev. of board? Are there different hw rev. of this board and which bios to start with?

If I'm asking too many questions just answer me this one - Start here or start at DFIclub for info? Where is the main knowledgebase?

The Zeus should be fine. Off and on I use the 850 and it does a fine job. The BIOS chips are preflashed with a EPROM programmer.

I am using the Silverstone DA750 which is a modular equivalent of your Zeus, though your Zeus is probably a bit better and my psu is doing just fine on this board with a Q6600, 4GB of ram, an overclocked 8800 Ultra, multiple drives etc. You should have no problems at all.

I finally decided to pull the trigger and ordered the LT version of this board (was torn between the Abit IP35Pro, GA-P35-DS4, DFI P35-Dk and DFI P35-LT).

So now I'm wondering if there's some sort of consensus on which BIOS to use...

    9/13 ?
    11/07 ?
    12/24 ?
    some beta BIOS?

...does the released 12/24 BIOS have any problems? Other components I'll be using are in my sig.

    Thanks.

24/12 Bios is just fine, there are several comments that confirm that it's stable and o/c top. You shouldn't have problems with it what so ever. 24/12 is the lastest official.

already tried 12/24 bios, but it can't beat my spi32m time in 9/13 & 10/05

it's very hard get under 12m in 400x9 but bios 10/05 does it

Glad someone mentioned it, I havent had to reset the bios to get it to post again, but I am getting random stability, dont understand it, one day it will run prime for 16 hrs, the next 16 mins before failing/BSOD ???? , and this is all with absolutly nothing in the bios changed at all.

    My current settings are

    Hi,
Anyone here tried to replace stock heatsinks + heatpipe with thermalright's HR-05 (on nb & sb) + HR-09 S/U on pwr section?

My board & Q6600 is solid the only time it fails to boot is when I messed something up & 1/2 the time just powering the PSU down & up again so the board does a full double strap setting boot sorts it out anyway. This is honestly the best board I have ever had.

This is just a suggestion & can’t hurt to try but imo your manually set GTL's are a bit out of the norm.

For the Q6600 I would try a couple of things firstly maybe a little more VTT voltage (my q6600 loves vtt) plus adjust GTL's between 0.67/0.70 or try a few points either way of Praz's cheet sheets from his edgeofstability dot com site or secondly try running with GTL's disabled/auto (you may need to set the GTL+ Buffer to week to run GTL's disabled)

Using a Silverstone ST75ZF for a couple months now, working flawless too

Great PSU, just wish they sleeved it fully.

I've put HR-05 SLi on the southbridge with AS5, didn't try on northbridge, though. No problem in mounting it.

And what abt the heatpipe? is it detachable off the stock heatsinks?

Any higher than this requiers even more voltage on all settings, so cause i dont need much vcore for 3.6GHz i keep it on that freq. and my ram also gets a nice round number.
Did you set GTL also or you just left it disabled?

Thankyou, ive not adjusted any of the voltages, I know the VTT is a bit low at 1.24v but if its stable there then I dont see any real need for anymore, however what I have done for now is set the buffers to weak and disabled GTL, its priming away quite happily ATM.

Anyone have any recommendations on a heatsink(s) for the CPL-4-50 chips? I'll be pulling off my heatpipes and heatsinks to apply MX-2 within the next week or so and would like to order something for the CPLs. Will any of the Thermalright HR-09s work or perhaps several of the Enzotech BMR-C1 copper sinks with some sort of thermal tape adhesive?

I just used these, 5 of them in total to cover both chips, work fine, stick fine and have been on them since i got the board, even if I gently tug on them I can feel they are still securly stuck down, they come with double sided sealf adhesive heat transfer tape already attached to them.

You'll find that when using dual-core processors for most 24/7 settings GTL set to disabled works fine. With my better processors I've been as high as 540 FSB with GTL disabled and without having to resort to the use of excessive voltages. The more VCORE required and the closer the cpu is run at it's FSB wall the more important GTL becomes.

GTL settings become more of an issue for quad-core processors. But even then, depending in the individual cpu, board and BIOS version, 420-440 FSB is usually obtainable without altering GTL and still below the need of having to use excessive voltages.

The vtt you have is not really low for the fsb you have, but rather I was giving you a couple of things to try that I know have a large impact on a quad seeing as how you said it was not 24/7 stable earlier!!.

My quad will run prime stable on low vtt but it wont keep going for days like this, it eventually ends up bending windows hence my suggestion to try a bit more.

I don't think a bit more vtt will hurt your CPU.

Anyway the main thing is you have found a groove that for now looks like it will work so fingers crossed & keep us posted.

You have 2 heatpipes, one going from the southbridge to the northbridge, and one going from the northbridge to the fins on the back of the mobo. You separate both of them together with the heatspreaders and then choose what to remove and what to keep.
