i found just as good results in everest setting the timings tighter manually than running turbo.

    my 5p worth.

    1. The board is not stable with setting f5h was.
    2. Memory secondary timings must be set manually to boot 2.66 dev c/d,
    3. Loadline calibration not working - Vdrop sucks real bad, still waiting HW mod HERE
    4. And the worst COLD BOOT. When started computer must first boot 3 times, then goes to default and overclock settings must be set again to work - 24/7 overclock i meat .... Never experienced that ... since 965 ds4/dq6 boards . . .

Thanks GB for waiting 3 mounts for the "magic" final BOIS

    Here my settings :

    LOAD

    bla...

but i expected that, gigabyte added llc only as a fake checkbox feature to look not as bad when compared to dfi or asus.

Anyways im testing the F5 bios for the X38T tomorrow.

How long before OCCT crashes with those settings ?

    5 minutes ?

What settings have you been able to get stable if OCCT isnt stable with those.

I get pretty much the same performance you do in Everest with DDR2 at 926, and turbo on. Might want to try setting the memory to DDR 950 or 1000 or so, and use Turbo and tighter timings. I know this board is horribly stable for most memory above 1066 for some reason. Especially with more than 1 stick of memory.

If you have a new Penryn CPU , but not an older one, can you drop it in ina DQ6 motherboard and update the BIOS after (From the original F3). I know the processor will not be "recognized", but it will still work with defaults settings well enough to allow BIOS update to F7 ?
    Thanks.

I'm using the original F4 bios, I tried the F5 one and came back to the original:

this one to see the droop under C2D cpu. (It's not this way with q6600 :/ )

This with a Zalman 9500 led(lapped) not allowing too much OC at this time.

And my max ram at the moment is:
I didn't tweaked the subtimings too much, setfsb from 450 til 461, it is not much I think but a good start for me.

Hi Folks, Help! CPU Q6600 G0. Memory is Corsair CM2X1024-8500C5D. Temps are fine Just want to reach 3Ghz, Any advice/ recommend reading/ settings would be appreciated very much

usually yes, but my board came with f4 so it was already compatible with penryn.

    hi

i have a very simlar setup but im at 3.2ghz 1080 dom pc -8500 400 fsb 2.66D multipler on air cooling .

read this following thread for info on 3.2ghz . maybe it will give you an idea of the various settings to think about.

it might be a case of just lowering the voltages slightly to the ones used for 3.2 in this explanation demo thread.

    http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?p=2526726

do you know of prime95? memtest86?

you kinda need these to make you computer work with as minimal crashes as possible. very important actually to OC. they test your system for 100 percent load on components.

post info of your bios settings we can help if you post the figures you use for latency and cpu volts ect... run prime 95 if it fails you need to tweak something we can help if we can see your settings.

also the link above the guy is using dominator 6400 ....you just need to alter your memory settings (its called a strap) maybe use 2.66D instead. run perhaps 375fsb x 8 multipler timings on ram 5 5 5 15 to start with use the voltage written on the side of the ram 'sticker' ( tell us what that is?...if it is 2.1v you have to use +.3v in the bios ....if it is 2.2v on the sticker you have to use +.4v in the bios ...very important to get this just right ) as for cpu volts (unfortunately i can not see my bios but go 1 or 2 steps below 1.2625v which is good for 3.2ghz ...so go a couple lower see how you go ..or run auto.

no, the backplate is important for support, so the board does not bend.

    Exitus

RIP GA-X38-DS5. Or maybe someone can help me, but I don't think so. I put in 2x1Gb of Crucial Ballistix (BL2KIT12864AA1065) 1066 Mhz. Had problems from the start, but then managed to get it stable. Then I killed the board. All I did was changing the Memory multiplier from 2.0B to 2.4B, with 1:1 having a FSB of 440, RAM Freq. went to 1056 in Bios. Mem voltage was on default. The reboot that followed was deadly, it seems. First the Bios was recovered, and then the system went into endless recovery-loops. Had this before, so I set the CMOS jumper, which worked before. Not this time. Ain't no bootn' no more. Took out the battery, didn't help. Can't do anything anymore. Can't go into BIOS. I'm ****ed. Didn't know that you could kill a board this way, now I know. A sad day.

2DIFF: Try booting with one stick of memory, and cycle through the memory slots, and then try it with the other stick of memory. That got me out of a similar situation, although it was a bios update that caused it.

    Good Luck
Like my cpu, born just a little too slow...

Thanks, but it didn't help. I really think something is damaged, alltough it didn't smell funny. I tried 3 different types of memory and all slots. There's nothing on the screen when booting, and the screens power led is blinking, normally it stops blinking when the system's turned on.

    tried F5H and F7

man you guys are all crazy for moving from F3 bios

i cannot get performance and stability nor FSB i get with F3 with ANY bios including the last two

i asked Gigabyte to mod F3 bios and include half multies
that's the only decent bios on this board for extreme OCing

some interesting results with a E8500 chip on SS

i took screens of the vcore drop and temps during 3DMARK06 CPU tests at 5050Mhz with 1.58v loaded

SS cooled -43C on evap load -45C idle

absolute best FSB i can get out of SS cooling and 9xmulti with this board with F3
    >>>>> with other bioses i cannot pass 530 properly lol

    need that half a multi

    45K efficiency too

    Team.AU
    Got tube?
    GIGABYTE Australia
Need a GIGABYTE bios or support?

    penryn runs on F3?

i haven't reverted back to F3 cause it says yorkfield only is recognized after F4.

Thanks, but I already changed back to my GA-965P-DS3P (have to change the sig). Tried everything there is except soldering in another Bios-chip . I wouldn't care if it had been my fault, for example by toasing a component by overvolting, but it was the board itself that went into a Bios recovery and I guess it was at that moment that it completely messed up. And once more: I couldn't do anything anymore, no way of recovering the bios via CD or Memstick.

I had a problem with endless reboots, what I did was power off the system, pull out the power plug from the power socket and left it for a few hours (drained the system of electricity), then when I powered on again I was able to enter BIOS etc...

dinos how on earth did you get your ram to be stable at such low latencies and high freq?

did you up the voltage on them? are those dominator stock 2.2v? did you take them up to 2.3v?

    which strap are you using?

    (nice cpu oc too WOW

hey ....makes me feel proud to have a gigabyte

well, the rams run 64 mhz below rating, they better should be able to run it with this timings, also this ddr2s cost more then my ddr3-1800 modules. (cheapste is 380€ )
