Xbit just reviewed these chips. The low VID is just amazing. I think 4ghz is possible with stock coolers.

from the above And taking into account that Intel is going to sell the new solutions for the price of Core 2 Duo E6850, E6750 and E6550, we can all get “free” performance improvement of 10-15% on new Intel dual-core CPUs.

wow, that means its like £170 !

not really intels fault that no big retailers exist in the uk and that there are only 2 -3 online shops that actually stock a decent selection of up to date hardware......

but yep, for us it will be same rip off as ever

I have been waiting to get a new processor for quite a while. In the meantime, I have upgraded to Corsair Domonator PC-9136 memory and the required parts for my first water cooling system.

It will be interesting to push things a bit with my new gear, but I am ultimately going to be very happy if I can achieve 4 GHz stable 24 hr Prime 95 performance while quieting my system down a bit (currently have 7 fans in case, so it gets a bit too noisy sometimes).

I wonder why there is no unlocked dual core from Intel? Wouldn't they sell nicely for 300-400$? (ln dream isn't it?)

Btw 1.43v@4.5ghz prime stable, what cooling was it, it seems I overlooked it...

This is the highest binned c2d 45nm./ I'm thinking the 80.00 price diff over the 8400 is justified. the extra .5 multi is going to make all the difference if you want to eliminate any issues with running high fsb. This is my next chip. nice review! / PREVIEW

393, I believe the OP meant this will be the first retail 45nm CPU with a stock frequency over 3GHz (it's actually 3.16GHz [=333*9.5]).

I'm looking very forward to having these E8 series processors come out in Canada. I'm just wondering if there will be any benefits from switching out my E6850 to an E8400, other than reduced TDP?

    Lower power consumption
    Lower temps
    More overclocking headroom (4Ghz+)
    More performance per clock
    SSE4 support

I would suggest you to move to quad core Q9xxx series because I don't think you will notice much difference other than lower temps and power consumptions.

I was considering a Q9xxx, but I really have no need for Quad Core at this time. Only so few apps and games take advantage of it, and it's an ePe*is extension for most users as of now. :P
