Hi all, first post here!
I am lookin at ordering a q6600 g0, with gigabyte p35-ds3r (£70) mobo, but have read that this mobo is rubbish for good quad OC's (i am goin for max 24/7 stable on air). Can anyone recommend a decent mobo for arround £70-100, preferably from scan.co.uk.

Sry if this is in the wrong place, a mod can delete it if neseccary
Thanks

I would get the P5K-E, but they are not in stock at scan at the moment.

Dabs have it though.

mc2k, actual Vcore might be somewhere near to 1,4 when cpu-z shows 1.376 - I observed this on a P5K-E with DMM, but you have a different board, so can't tell for sure ...
Sometimes a good slap in the face is all you need

Bios my arss.....
I can fix this problem with a hardware mod....

uhm some1 did a DIMM measurements on the Maximus the findings are these: BIOS set 1.60v BIOS hardwaremonitor: 1.544v[ same value as CPU-Z shows) DIMM: measure 1.555v, so I can tell it is pretty accurate judging from these findings. I also set 1.400@ bios manual, and this board vdrop..... so figure

G0 Q6600@3Ghz

i did a prime95-64bit 4 core run.

TRUE with 960rpm 120mm fan
30*C room temp, 40*C+ outside temp (hot day)

It got 65*C on core0, and the other 3 were below 65c.

With a faster fan, should do alot better.

Just got my Q6600 G0 today.

Currently running at 3.6Ghz [400x9]
Going to try getting it a little higher tomorrow.
Hopefully I'll be able to get rather close to 4.0

Just got another G0 by WizardofOz's recommendation and glad I trusted him

Batch # L737 B162
VID - 1.2125

Currently priming 3.6GHz at only 1.3v
Will post screenie tomorrow morning after it runs for a few hours

Seems like the batch #'s are the way to go in finding a good chip!

Fancy that hey, let's hope it overclocks as nice as it looks and has a low VID. Easy to remember the batch too.

If it turns out to be a great overclocker you'll be in quad core heaven

Good luck and let us know how much oooomph it's got.

Did you get yours from NCIX? Cause I got mine a few days ago and it has the same batch number.

I oc'ed it straight to 3.6 with pretty much everything at auto.
I think my vCore is at 1.36. Don't remember the rest as I'm currently at work.

Going to try getting it to 3.8 and hopefully 4.0
Just waiting for the AS5 to burn in after putting in the quad nozzle on the FuZion.

Good luck oc'ing that beast.

Lol...yup. I bought it from NCIX during the boxing day sale, boy, was that hell during the first 3 hours of the sale with the server being DOSed by everyone pressing F5.
Well, it's good to hear that it's a good overclocker except I'll be using a Thermalright Ultima 90, so I probably won't be able to scale as high as you.

I was able to overclock my new q6600 SLACR with no problems up to 3.2ghz...running ram at 1099mhz....however I do have one question...

What is the maximum temperature this CPU can handle under load and "torture testing"? I don't want to overheat it at all....what should it be at idle?

I would like idle temp at stock settings and what expected idle temp at OC settings?

Having problems getting my CPU to run at 400FSB

Abit IP35-E
Team Elite 2GB DDR2-800
8800GTS 320MB
Silverstone Zues 750ZF

Ive tried the following
400FSB at 6 Multiplier to lock the clockspeed at 2.4Ghz
Mem ratio of 1:1 to keep my mem at 800Mhz (5-5-5-15-2T 2.10v, to eliminate the ram problem )
Tried raising the CPU voltage 1~2 steps higher
Tried raising the MCH voltage 3 steps higher

Either my system fails to post or when it loads to windows i only get to use 2 cores and after a reboot the system fails to post after..

Any tips ?

Recommended temp Q6600 - From Intel

Thank you for contacting Intel(R) Customer Support.

I understand you are looking for information on the operating temperature of the Intel(R) Core(TM)
2 Quad processor Q6600.

The maximum operating temperature of the Intel(R) Core(TM) 2 Quad processor Q6600 is 71 degrees
Celsius. As long as the processor is operating under this temperature it is operating within
specifications. We recommend setting any thermal alarms about three (3) degrees below the maximum
recommended temperature for the processor. We do not have a normal operating temperature for the
processor as this temperature will vary depending on the chassis and other hardware installed on the
system as well as the actual load the software is placing on the processor.

Ah ha that's really good know I foolishly assumed it was the same as a C2D (65C) and never looked into it. I guess don't have quite such bad temp issues with mine after all...

On another note I'm still testing mine and at present it's crunching at 3.0Ghz with all voltages at stock (vcore 1.21 with droop). 3.6 and 1.43 vcore was hitting upwards of 65C crunching in preliminary testing.

well, something is definitely wrong with my cpu then, or mine is just as bad as they accept.

I've been having horrible heat issues that I cannot resolve. My 3.2GHz idles around 46C and peaks at 84C in 12hour primes! load is typically around 71-75C.

Last night I decided to see what kind of heat this thing would output if I just ran prime95 at stock everything. It's been going for 12 hours now. load is 69C and it peaked at 74C!! at 2.4GHz Idle was 45C before I started.

Pretty lame my temps are the same whether I OC or not. Should I try to get another chip under intel warranty?

Hmm that's definitely not right and you do seem to be running very hot in general. With nearly the best air cooler on the market too. Have you tried re-seating the HSF? What TIM are you using?

My setup not the greatest cooling-wise (small mid tower and a Zalman 9700 LED and I have high ambient temps in my apartment) though I idle at 38 at stock, 45 when overclocked to 3.6 with 1.43v. All 4 cores loaded 100% at 3.0Ghz w stock voltage hits a max of 50C.

And I am fairly certain you can't RMA it through Intel in this situation. A replacement from the vendor not an option?

i've tried all sorts of stuff, but i'm still at a loss. tried changing the airflow in the case, tried blowing an 18" floor-fan through my case with the panels off, reseated the HS (using arctic silver 5) ... my HS seems to be flat, so I don't see any reason to lap it. the cpu might be slightly concave ... I tested it's flatness when i tested the HS, but I didn't take photos

And I am fairly certain you can't RMA it through Intel in this situation. A replacement from the vendor not an option?
I got it on black friday at Fry's. I guess I could call them and see what they say.

I really do want help with these heat issues. should I start a thread for this type of question? which forum?
