Guys, do you know anything about this batch L733B421?
Don't know if it's G0, some guy told me it is.
    Any info would be usefull.

    Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any solid data on G0 Batch L734A?

I have a Q6600 from this batch with a VID of 1.275 that I'd like to get to 3.6ghz on air with a tuniq tower (and perhaps to 4ghz on water later-on.) I have an eVga NF-68-A1 board which successfully ran an E6600 @ 3.6ghz stable (x9 * 400fsb, 1.44 vCore actual) for nearly a year. I tried to get to 3.6ghz with some common settings but ran into trouble.

Over the weekend I'll have to map out this proc's OC capability in a more gradual matter, in hopes that 3.6ghz isn't a stretch. Any information on similar chips would be greatly appreciated.

    Mark.

I tested two quads (a Q6600 and a QX6700) on a P35 and an eVGA 680i A1...with both procs, I was stable at up to 3.85GHz on the P35 mobo, but could only get 3.6GHz benchable with the nVidia chipset....I had to drop to about 3.2GHz for full stability.

I mention these results because I don't think you'll be limited by your CPU/CPU stepping...but rather, by your mobo. Good luck!

Most have a VID value less than your 1.2750v

Here is one ex that can do 3.6GHz on a higher VID

Hope this gives you some confidence.

From what I read, some MB are not Quad friendly you may want to look in that direction.

Thank you kindly for the info Miahallen and Wizard. It's clear that getting this to 3.6 won't be as easy as "dialing in" speeds and voltages (as I did with the E6600 to my satisfaction.) I agree that the motherboard is most likely to put up the biggest fight. After spending a few hours on the eVga forums last night, I do think it's possible, but it'll take a few days of truly mapping out the processor's full capabilities and a lot of trial and error. Btw, the evga is an A1 revision. In fact, one of the two reasons I upgraded now (instead of waiting for the Penryn) is that I can bail out to a 780i board on the cheap if need be (the most expensive components in the rig, for better or worse, limit me to nForce.)

I do have some confidence, though. I under-volted at stock settings last night to figure out if re-seating the heat sink would be worth while (and with a delta of 14 between idle and load, I think it would...) To my surprise, the system is prime stable at 1v (and I still haven't tested for the stable floor yet.) This should at least be encouraging. Perhaps the VID isn't 100% accurate for every chip.

You think you're unlucky, I have the same L737B batch, but my VID is 1.325, and cannot get 3600 stable, only enough for a superpi suicide post at 3600.

I have written 1,35V max on the q6600 retail box - does it indicate something? what exactly do you mean with "unlucky 1,3125 VID" ? thanks

The VID is a number stamped electronically into each processor which represents the voltage needed for stock operation (not accounting for vDroop.) It is unique to each processor, and can be read by a program called CoreTemp. While the number is unique to each processor, and while there does seem to be a decent correlation between processors with low VIDs and high OC capabilities, this correlation is not statistically proven.

It's also not necessarily accurate in some cases, as many (such as myself, currently) can undervolt below VID and still run stable at stock. However, the fact that a correlation does appear to exist between VID and OC ability makes it a popular measurement in predicting OC success.

The number on the box is the same for every Q6600 and represents the max voltage to be used for stock operation (although I could be wrong about that.)

WOW, that's incredible!!! What's your voltage set to in the BIOS?

What are your ambient temps? Sub zero??? Gotta be, that OC is amazing.

This is really great, so do you think your low VID value might have something to do with it, ignoring for the moment, the shape of the IHS and MB compared to your other Q6600 experiences.

Yes I think so, my other got a VID of 1.2875, altho it can do 3.6ghz with 1.408 which is Oke`isch, however for higher it Scales Very bad. I installed also a Q6600 recently for my cousin and it has a VID of 1.325, for 3.4 ghz, it needs 1.47vcore.....but it runs cooler then all the other with lower VIDs for that volt. So I do think there is a direct correlation with Low vids and High O/c if I can rely on just 3 cpu I tested alone, however If u look @ the overclock section, u see that all low VIDS can clock higher then higher VIDs with less volts.

And about the Shape of the IHS it was more like the same as my previous, lapped the Q6600 with vid 1.2875 along with the Thermalright shaved a good 13c off during load Not sure If I need to lap it for now as temperature seems very acceptable.
