    The best 40mm fan.

I am currently cooling my SB with an Enzotech Forged Copper heat sink (CNB-S1L), and a 40mm Silenx Ixtrema Pro Series fan. (Rated at 14dBA, and 5CFM)
That little bugger cost $17.00 at Micro Center...

Is the Silenx Ixtrema Pro a good fan, as 40mm fans go?

Is there one that might do a much better job of cooling my SB?

$17 for a 40mm fan? You gotta be kidding me. Good ol SilenX. Overpricing is job one.

    I'd recommend something like this...http://shoppts.com/40scmcafan4c.html

    At least you'll save $13.

I think it's worth every penny! What amazing bling factor! Really, if your happy with it and it don't tear your ear drums out, I think it's FAbooloousee!

But...Is it LED/UV/Shiny??? Maybe it needs more bling? And your Mosfet screws need to be LED.

On a SB and undervolted it should be quiet.
All stock for now, no need for more, but it's gonna be soon methinks.

Good price for sure, but rated at 4.11 CFM.

So 5CFM might be about the best I can expect to get out of a 40mm fan...

Yep, $17 bucks was a bit pricey for mine!

Now I am only consirned if there is one that is worth replaceing it with, that would give me cooler temps.

There is a thought .... If room permitting, and it won't bump into my GPU, that is something to consider.

That would block one if not both of his PCI-E slots, but if you can find some way to make it work that would be the best solution.

    Thanks for the links.

UV Blue would have been my first choice too.

I just might go for one of each.....

don't buy silenx ever, they are horrible fans and you would be better off without a fan than a silenx one

Is it just just they are over priced, or poor quality too?

Remember, this animal is rated at a full 5CFM!

I have consirns that it may cause my MOBO to break free, and fly around the room.

Very poor quality..they're OK when they work but they don't last long.

Read this thread...if you scroll down you can see the pics I took of my 120mm fans. Horrible.

    Silenx?

Enjoy. They're probably spending your money on beer instead of engineers as we speak : (

Considering SB cooling is mostly binary (it's either cool enough for your OC or it's not), unless you have problems with overheating or the amount of noise of your current fan, no need to spend more $$.

    Amd should sell them Hector

amd would get rid of a problem, we would get rid of silenx...

aslong s you have some cooling on the southbridge you should be fine, no need for a lot usually, except when you have multiple graphicscards with dualslot coolers... becuase then the airflow in the area approches very low lvl's.

    Thanks again...

I decided to try out both of them.
    I just ordered:
    (1) Panaflo L1 Ultra Quiet 60mm Fan Sleeved, - Sleeve Color: Black, - Heatshrink Color: Black $6.95
    (1) Aerodynamic Fan Adapter 40mm to 60mm - UV Sensitive Blue $3.99

And just in case I can't find enouigh room for the adapter to fit...
    (1) Scythe "Mini Kaze" 40mm Silent Mini Fan - Sleeved, - Sleeve Color: Black, - Heatshrink Color: Black $4.95
It will be my fall back position, to replace the Silenx Ixtrema Pro fan.

I sure would love to find a way to get the adapter mounted though, and use a 60mm to cool the SB with it's 12 CFM rating.
I am thinking that if I put a second bolt through the mobo, it may be close enouigh to mount to the bottom of the adapter? Not sure though....

Sunon might be your best bet. The others are sleeve bearing, which raises questions of how they will do in a horizontal position.
