I would appecriate if we could just post everything also. It's their fault if they break their stuff. For christs sake this is a volt mod thread already, breaking stuff is a risk in doing the original mod so I don't see why we have to pm with a similar possibly more complicated one... otherwise we should just F*** the forum and just pm each other all day.

ok, I'm a bit confused, got the gpu mod done, but it won't adjust, when I have it connected it adds .05 to the vgpu but I can't get it to go up, I'm puzzled, checked my vr and it seems to adjust fine starting at 500 ohms, any suggestions?

    toddm27,
You're not turning the VR enough. vGPU won't start rising until several turns, and even then it's quite slow - but it faster after more turns...

I'm not sure that's it, I'll redo it tonight with another resistor possibly, but I turned it like 6 or 7 turns with no change in volts on a 15 turn vr
    Thanks for the input though

6-7 turns is infact not enough.

    Nice! Stability?
Now up the vGPU and go higher. :P

Is there any way to reduce the vmem on 88gt? I'm wondering cause my crap memory can work stable only on stock freq. Vmem reads 2.01 (that seems to be a bit on the high side of stated 1.9V +/- 5%). I somewhere here read that one guy decreased the voltage and got much higher overclock.
The core is very nice though - hits 820/1940 on 1.25v on air (48°) artifact free in atitool (and seems stable in games).

Also my previous 88gt could game w/o problems @2000mhz mem. Probably had lower volts, but i don't know since didn't measure it back then.

    Question

Are there any vGPU/OCP/lower VMem mods for the Gigabyte/Galaxy short PCB version?

The Galaxy short PCB card I have has an RT9259 DC-DC converter on it, so we should just be able to add a VR between the feedback pin (pin 4) and ground. I'll hopefully get around to trying it tonight and report back if successful.

If it works out and nobody gets to it before me, I'll post some pics when I get a chance.

Awesome To get a vGPU reading, would we be able to follow the trace from pin 4? I look forward to it, I am really curious if the different regulation on the short board and in the Galaxy's case dual PCI-E connectors (supposedly discrete GPU and MEM supplies) will provide for some interesting overvolting results

I discovered something interesting. . . my 512MB Galaxy 8800GT has a vcore of 1.22V idle, 1.26V load. This is without me doing any mods. If this is common, it could explain why people have been having such good luck with this card.

Dissapointing for me though, since mine will only do about 700 / 1728 / 950 at that voltage.

I did the vcore mod anyway, and I'll try it tomorrow morning to see if it worked. Need sleep for think more now.

mud, what is the cooling of your card? Freq could go a lot higher if you can get it cooled below some 50° under load.

That's possible. Right now the card has its stock cooling, which is a Cooler Master heatpipe orb thingy that works fairly well:

Load temp with 1.23 vcore is about 77 C. I may try putting my maze4 on it at some point.

As for the vcore mod, I must have been asleep last night. My non-modded load vcore is 1.23V (still really high), and the mod appears to have worked. I still need to do some more testing though.

    My card looks like this:

It has some kind of jumper (in red circle), although I don't think it's for vGPU, because it doesn't have any effect on VGPU as far as I can tell. Neither taking the jumper off nor putting it on in either position affects the voltage at all. Also, I was wrong about the stock voltage being 1.23V. . . I was measuring it in the wrong place, and just assumed that it was the GPU voltage since it was close to 1.1.

I still haven't gotten around to testing to see if the vGPU mod I made works, because I've been playing with my 256MB XFX 8800GT, which actually likes to overclock. Right now it's stable at 800 / 1890 / 850 at 1.20V (from stock 600 / 1500 / 700), and it's definitely being held back by heat.
    It's more fun

    865pe,
Your card is a reference board just with black coloring.
Meaning the guide in first post applies to your card aswell.

Largon, I was initially measuring at those points, that's where I measured 1.23V. However, I also measured 1.15V on some of the little capacitors closer to the GPU. 1.15V seems like a more reasonable stock GPU voltage, but it also seems like they would put the big caps on the main power supply, so I don't know what to think. Are you sure those points are the correct ones to measure?

As for my voltage mod, I actually modded the memory voltage instead of the GPU voltage. Doh!

The DC-DC converter for the GPU appears to be a Richtek RT8802A on the front of the board, which I had originally assumed was a Realtek 880 HD Audio codec chip. Looks like a VR from pin 4 to ground will do the trick. Hopefully it's actually the correct chip this time
