    SATA Drive set-up

    Hi,

    Need a little help !!
I have tied to install a 3rd sata hard drive but I cannot get Windows to see the drive it only see the drives which are connected to sata 1 & sata 2. I have tried all the other (3, 4, 5 & 6) no luck. If I unplug one of the original drives and plug the new one in say on sata 2 windows see's the new drive.

The new drive shows up in the bio's settings and shows up during boot it just doesn't show up in windows.

    Anyone any idea's what's wrong ?

    P5B Delux, win xp pro.

You need to format/partition the drive in order for windows to see/use it.

    Goto your Control Panel
    -Administrative Tools
    -Computer Management
on left pane, click on Storage and then Disk Management

You should see your new drive there... probably unpartitioned. partition and format it.

Either you are doing something wrong or you have a bad drive. Look in the bios and see if it is included in the lists of drives. Now that I think of it, you should see the drive if it is formated or not during boot. Is you drive hooked up to one of the 6 SATA Intel connectors? Or is it hooked up to the single connector in the middle of the board? It should be connected to one of the 6 Intel connectors.

    K quick question...

My friend upgraded his ram to 2 x 2 gig, bios (1223 I believe) only sees 3Gb, is this where the memory remap feature pops in ? he will use WinXP Pro 64 once he gets the board to recognise 4gig

    any tips ?

    thx Jr
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

You have to be using a 64bit OS for 4Gb to be recognized. Yes, you 'Enable Memory Remap' in the bios.

Thx for the reply, mmm weird issue now : he just enabled memory remap , rebooted, bios says 2 gig installed and OS ( 64 bit WinXP apparently already installed ) tooooo

If you can't read it in the bios boot, and memory remap is enabled. Try a real clear of the bios. Unplug the PS, and take out the battery for about 10 minutes and then use the clear bios jumper for about five minutes.

Sounds like an RMA issue. I would call them up and ask for an advanced replacement.

I have done it two times with Asus and they where very good about it. All they ask for is the S/N of the board. It is also on the retail box. The phone number is on the Newegg website.

Did you say that you can see the drives in the bios but not in Windows?

I think what I said is wrong. If the bios can see the drive, you have a Windows problem. You need to maybe scan for new hardware in device manager, disable all the drives and then scan for new hardware in device manager. If that does not work, maybe go to the MS Knowledge base and search for a fix.

Just flashed back to 1219 because 1226 is definitely BETA! My OC was nowhere near what it was before. 1219 is probably the best bios out right now and it supports Q6600!

I have a Q6600 and other than the post clock speed error, the 1219 is the also the best tested bios for may system.

I read that a new socket called LGA1366 will be out Q4 of 2008.

I'm curious why PECI was removed in the 1219-1226 bios. I was running the 1226 Bios then I noticed PECI was missing, i flashed back to 1216 to re-enable it.

    Best Memory

What is the fastest memory the Asus P5B Deluxe wifi mobo can take.
I have at the moment Speed: DDR2-533 (PC2-4200).As memory is cheap now I was thinking of upgrading. If I was to get the fastest whatever it is would I notice much difference.
Also My bios is 0804 What would be the best to update it.

When you say that DDR2 is cheap now, that is the PC2-6400 or 800MHz (400x2). That is basically the stock memory for your computer running at default.

The hi performance DDR2 is not cheap. And, is usually used with an overclock.

Settings on the P5B can reach speeds so high that you will never be able to get a CPU and memory to run at.

If you are thinking of going DDR 533 to DDR 800, you may just not bother for real world performance. Faster high performance memory will show improvement when used as part of an OC project.

You have some reading to do. Why don't you start with this. By your questions I can tell you should get a little pre-knowledge. You could spend a day deeply reading about your questions.

There are some good P5B links on this page.

You do have some nice components in your sig. I would test my my memory at DDR2 800. It should do it. And yes, I would update the bios. I use #1219, Read a little about memory timings.
