The IDT chip is not very warm to be honest, at least when it is not working to split the second PCIe 16x lane. I placed 4 Swiftech Memory coolers on it just to make sure: (that SB heatsink was taken from an old Asus P5B )

Using an infrared thermometer, it is at around 33 degrees, which is just 2 degrees higher then the motherboard PCB next to it.

While I was at it I discovered that the FETs for the Northbridge was really hot, so another memory ram sink was placed on the 4 FETs, which fits perfectly:

These sinks, when under load goes up to as high as 48 degrees, also measured using the infrared thermometer.

Another was placed on the Memory FETs, although they were not that hot anyway powering DDR3, with temp reading at 37 degrees under load.

These little heat sinks can be found on DFI boards that are factory fitted, but not from other manufactures.
