Just tried 903
could not boot with 425x8 @1.4
seems the 9 series dont like my setup much, thinking I should have went 680i
This board is really pissing me off, last time I had such a fussy board was the A8N-SLI Deluxe

Interesting, For me , my mobo love just bout everything on 8x. But then I like to play more with the duals for that reason. Comparing my mobo to any of my P35's with the same core, I can say it is quickly passing them by in overclocker performance capability.
As for that A8N-SLI, I had the premium, and had 3 yrs of good usage out of it other then 2 PSU's and 1 RAM stick go out, but since nobody spoke up to my post, I can onky guess it was a isolated issue. Other then that, I still have this and the CROSSHAIR that many had bad luck with.
This really shows, that performance is different from board to board, and choosing the combo of CPU can make the difference too.
One thing I can say for mine w/ a dual, as it loves the 8x 5:6 devider where as my Q6600 @ 8x on P5K loved the 4:5. 475x8 was a sweet spot for mine, although at that devider, S3 of ACPI was not 100% reliable anymore, but all other test passed with flying colors. 480x8 to 4:5 DDR1200 was nice too. As for the E6750, if in 1:1, full ACPI is smooth all the way to 510FSB.

I sat on the fence for along time, dual or quad
I know quad is a tad harder to oc and really I am happy with bios 802 so flashing to 903 is really not an issue, but I would like to know why I cant get 450x8 stable when it once was. Its begining to consume all my free time
I just got some trouble here.
Was about to reboot and the computer rebooted, but then it said CPU INIT.
Tried to clear cmos, put battery out for 15min.
I took the motherboard out too and checked everything.
Will try with a different cpu tomorrow...

They were static, but seemed high. I had to reseat my Ultra-120 just to be sure, and I did it with a Loonie (Canadian dollar coin) and it's solid as hell now.
The temps I get are pretty consistent, but 8 -10 degrees higher in PC Probe than in CoreTemp
At 4.0 I had 45 degrees idle and as high as 69 under moderate load, but it wasn't stable. Voltage was 1.49.
I could run 3DMark06 but not OCCT. OCCT got me a BSOD.
Anyway, I am running at 3.6 quite stable at 1.44v around the same temp on PC Probe of 45 idle and 65-70 load.
I haven't done CoreTemp yet, because I have to reboot and disable driver signing on my Vista 64, which causes my G15 LCD not to work for some reason....

All I can say is the idle temps on my h2o setup was 45c. This HAS to be a bug. My load temps were about what one would expect, but idle was always 45ish once I was on 903. You definately need look at your load temps. My board is on RMA right now (faulty firewire chip) but when it comes back, I'll OC in XP, then boot to Vista and test temps with differnt Bios. We'll see what's causing these temps, but I doubt we're getting acurate idle temps.
IMO, this temp bug is just one indication of how immature the bios is for this board. With any luck, once we start getting some better bios this board will REALLY start to shine. I'm hopeing to hit 500fsb with a Q9450 so Asus better get on those bios revisions.

vista temps are higher than xp temps for both load and idle.

I cant say for sure. But are you trying with a devider? I noticed that with each recent BIOS, it is tweaking deviders and not realy anything major. So try 1:1 and should be good and and even go beyond that if you know your CPU was good for the FSB to begin with. The quads make high FSB and a devider a bit of a chalange. The other big thing I notice is the strapping for these 1066 chips. stick with Auto and choose deviders for your defult FSB if you want to try them. Just an idea, worked for me.
This sounds normal for the recent BIOS. But if you get 9-10 higher then what BIOS and Everest cores 1&2 temps read then it may be something else. I only had this weirdness on one other ASUS as the P5WD2 premium and it never got resoled and yet no matter what app I used, it read the same so I figured it to be a thermister/sensor issue. It performed the same, just had to know the temps were off so I had to up threashold and stuff lke that.
I'm sure it's something different though here. Keep us posted, cause I have not seen this in any BIOS version so far, other then the pre 602 that read the CPU IHS temp to BIOS (the lower of the 2 temps).

Ok, on stock speeds, with my Ultra 120 Extreme, my Q6600 with everything on auto is running 28-33 degrees for the four cores in CoreTemp.
This isn't bad, but I would expect it to be lower, given the supposed cooling properties of the HS.
PC Probe is now reporting insane voltages of 4.08 for SB, SB2, FSBT, DRAM, NB and DRAM Ref.
All the same and all at 4.08... which leads me to believe that something is not reporting right... this only happens on auto.
Also, has anyone else had AISuite simply stop working? Mine crashes every time I open it. I can get it to run, but it doesn't report anything and it doesn't do anything.

well there's massive vdroop on the 680i board unless you've done the pencil mod.
that might explain the difference.

pencil mod was done. I'm talking about the same fsb, same cpu speed, same volts and the temps are quite different.
well my p5k-dlx was slightly warmer than my 680i at the same clocks/volts also.
not as extreme as yours ...maybe 3-4c but it was also much more stable and clocked memory alot better so i just ignored it.
but then my 680i wasn't pencil'd either so .......
how many mounts have you done with the maximus?

only a few, but I think they were all good. Strange thing it temps didn't really change all that much from mount to mount. Lke I said, load temps seemed right, just idle temps that were high. I suppose it could just be the board but I'm curious as to why this happens. Not complaining though, this board kicks a$$ ! Can't wait til I get it back from RMA
well i got mine to turn on tonight.it is still on 401 as of the moment but it all went pretty smooth in xp64. the only little problem was when setting up the raid and clicking on the wrong setting at first, then we figured out i needed to click the ich8/ich9 setting instead of the other one.that little detour took about a extra hour of scratching my mellon. i need to install a few more drivers but i can't believe everything worked.. e6850, all 4 sticks of crucial pc8500 and both 3870's.. after i get it up and going for a few days i may venture into turning up some stuff a little bit. oh yeah and add some water in a few weeks..

Last night I was about to reboot, and then the LCD-Poster said "CPU INIT".
I´ve tried everything, reseat cpu + heatsink, remove all crap like ram, harddrives etc.
I managed to flash a bios but i crashed @ 13%. Then I did bios recovery and it posted again. But 1 min later i get CPU INIT again.
Time for RMA or ?

Try disconnecting the power cord - walk away for 15mins and then reactivate; if posts, go into bios and set to factory defaults ... save and shut down ... remove power cord ... wait 10mins and reactivate. Have experienced intermittent CPU INIT errors with overclocking and found this process resolves the issue.
