Btw: do you have the Crysis Hotfix Instaled????
I had it installed because I was using an X1800XT and then installed a 1950 a co worker tried to sell me. The file is 53.5MB It installs as a patch, anything else?

    http://support.ati.com/ics/support/d...estionID=30533

Don't need it for 3870. Looks like it was removed during the last cleaning in fact.

Anyway, I fixed the problem and it was the nothing to do with my system hardware or my computer. I tested the video card and the computer at stock speed. What was the problem? HDMI and its High Def Drivers (might not have installed correctly) + the X-Fi + Dimage (Minolta Digital Camera software). Might be overkill but--->
After a fresh Defrag and Disk check.
    I then;
    Booted up in safe mode.
    Un-installed the drivers.
    Cleaned out the driver cache
    Looked for leftovers.
    Booted into WinXP
Canned the reinstall of the Video card.
Un installed the ATI junk CCC and etc.......
Ran Crap Cleaner found even more leftovers, 79 files.
Searched the Reg for more leftovers. Found more didn't count.
    Re-Booted WinXP
Canceled the Plug-and-Play attempt to install again, all 3 times.
Shut down all running apps including AVG.
This time installed the software and drivers from the disk.
Made sure it requested a reboot and did so.
Waited for the next WinXP get to Idle with everything was ready to use.
Wayyyy more than I needed to do but I wanted to make sure. I might have left a step or two out.
Quick Defrag and started up CoD4. Set it to 1600 X 1200 with mostly high details. Games starts, I'm on the sniper map. First start I see a skip and think oh crap. Then when he says "Follow me" and it starts, the game runs and plays is buttery smooth. In fact, it is running faster than the X1800 did at 1024 X 768 (does happy dance).

I replied here and didn't test much else.

To the other guy. I use Video In for my Harmon Kardon Receiver's On Screen Display. Not a deal breaker but it would have been nice.

    To: mascaras
CoD4 has only a 1600 X 1200. 3870 only gives me the Option for 1600 X 1050, nothing higher but I think that's my Acer 22" LCD's limitation. I'll give Crysis a shot. Do one of the Quake's, FEAR, Farcry and which ever 3DMarks I can find. Stay tuned.

Redundant with HDMI I'm told but I don't know for sure.

    That's pretty good.
"To exist in this vast universe for a speck of time is the great gift of life. Our tiny sliver of time is our gift of life. It is our only life. The universe will go on, indifferent to our brief existence, but while we are here we touch not just part of that vastness, but also the lives around us. Life is the gift each of us has been given. Each life is our own and no one else's. It is precious beyond all counting. It is the greatest value we have. Cherish it for what it truly is."

ATI Radeon HD 3870 VIDEO CARD : DIAMOND VIPER HD 3870 PCIE 512MB GDDR4 Dual DVI & HDTV-Out
    Price: $299.99
Sure, but the Visiontek 3870 sold for $214@Best Buy with a shipped and Tax Price of $237. I have an option to return the card but now that it seems to be working, I'm sticking with it.

I posted that link because it was the best proof of VIVO inclusion. The price is highway robbery. That however appears to be the same card as newegg has here:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...&Tpk=hd%2b3870

OOS...as usual and $249...the gouging continues, but if VIVO is important to you...as it certainly is to me then this appears to be the HD 3870 buy.

I didn't mean anything negative here. It seemed like there weren't much of a price difference when the 18 and 1900's included VIVO. When I bought mine, Newegg only had a few in stock and wanted about $289 for that same model IIRC. I just wondered, why Visiontek didn't include it?

Didn't take it that way. That's the only HD 38x0 I've seen with VIVO support so far...though I haven't looked that hard.

This is not a VIVO port. That's TV-HDTV out only. The card might have it, but the one pictured isn't it.

    VIVO.

    BTW, thanks TimoneX

Also make note of the cables that ship with their VIVO Cards? 99% of them ship with it and if it's NOT there, that's a dead give-away. The Dongle Cable on the right.

Very nice review Apoptosis. That answers the question for the other guy why I wish I had gotten the 8800GT ( a local bud on [H] forum). I would have only paid just over $250 for it.

Not with AA but AF This is only on the Med setting BTW.

Let's see why. You're sitting there wasting bullets because AF and HDR are wacky. Why? There's a guy behind a Bolder being rendered and the Bolder in front of him isn't, there's no way to tell until you get closer. Then out of nowhere there's the bolder LOL! It takes away from the Game having bushes and trees being rendered a you approach them I wonder if this is just the Game though? I have fallen through the flight deck LOL!

At this shop in Canada the 8800gt and HD3870 are both for the same price. I play at 1440x900, which card performs better?
