    No, they are 100% identical...

    Check page 17 of this Intel document, all chips contain bugs or 'errata' as they describe it. The disclaimer I find interesting in alot of Intel documentation is this;

"Intel products are not intended for use in medical, life saving, life sustaining applications"

Does this mean we should stop using Intel? No of course not, AMD is subject to the same probelms in chip design and manufacturing, all cpu's have bugs. Fortunately both companies are active in tracing and correcting these conditions, thats one of the benefits of newer revision parts. It does sound like this may be a more serious incarnation affecting 45nm if they are holding back launch, and Xeons may benefit from more robust memory subsystems using registered/buffered parts, time will tell.

I love that quote Its basicly just an anti lawsuit thing as usual if anything should happen. Just imagine the short EULA we could have if..well you know

But I bet its a non serious bug. Just blown out of proportion.

You realize one is Socket 771, the other Socket 775, right?

    99.9% similar, maybe. 100%? I don't think so.

i doubt that intel has a problem with their FSB, they simply want to milk 65nm as long as possible just as amd did before C2D

Its the same bus, same signals, same voltages.

And you could compare 771 with 775 and you might just find 4 extra reserved pins. I doubt a different pin layout would fix or brake this.

what severity though? vast majority of cpu bugs are virtual non-factors, as in its like getting struck by bolt of lightning...

On pcinpact the second source, they said:
That this is only precise case in lab, but not find elsewhere.
But they said too that the yorkfield will be respin and delayed.

So don't seem a too serious bug but a nice reason to delay...

Wow, just bugs everywhere... this looks like it is just a translation of the french report:
    http://www.behardware.com/news/9264/...confirmed.html

I wonder if the Intel dude is on vacation too ....

EDIT: (oops, did not notice yours above, just jumped to quick reply)

Bump?? I think an execution miss is a miss regardless. AMD has not handled theirs well, we shall see how Intel will handles it.... historically, one can lean towards not well either...
