hello, anyone, don't tell me you don't know anything about this:
is there any chance for some software to pop up with the voltage control for the GPU (and RAM)? thnx
or does this has to be BIOS supported, I'm asking cause that was possible with the 2900XT, right?

Make and model of said ram would answer that question much quicker
2900XT uses oc'able ram, that much we know.

ok RAM, but what about GPU, didn't 2900XT have an option for vgpu raising? (or did I understand sth wrong...)

You're confused with ATI Overdrive. Of course that works on 38*0 cards as well.

    Here are the IC's used
    source
Samsung K4U52324QE-BC08 (hard to read from the previous photo)
    Rated at 0.83ns (1200MHz)

Everyone with a 3870 should be obtaining at least 1200MHz with these ICs.

Note: it is Vista 64-bit. The Test System:
The test system was running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit with all available Microsoft updates including the hotefixes required for enthusiast video cards to run correctly.
NVIDIA Forceware 169.05 beta video card drivers were used on all of the GeForce series graphics cards except for the XFX GeForce 8800GT as it ran newer 169.12 drivers.
ATI CATALYST 7.11 drivers were used on the Radeon HD 3850, 2900 XT and HD 2600 XT graphics cards. All results shown in the charts are averages of at least three runs from each game or application used.
    System Specs: * i7 2700K @ 4.8 Ghz * Zalman CPNS9900-A LED * Asus Maximus IV Extreme -Z * 16 GB Corsair Dominator GT CMT16GX3M4X2133C9 * Sapphire HD7970 crossfire * Creative X-Fi Titanium Fatality Pro [PCI-E] * Corsair AX 1200W * WDC WD1002FAEX + WDC WD1002FAEX * Optiarc AD 5240S * Dell U3010 @ 2560 x 1600 [DVI-D] * Steelseries 7G * Logitech G9 * Steelseries SX * Coolermaster Stacker STC T01 * Logitech Z-5500 * Sennheiser HD598 * Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1*

Pretty damn good scores on Vista 64-bit w/ CF considering how bad multi-GPU setups on x64 Vista have been going. 2 3850's pretty consistently match or exceed the GTX and 2 3870s pretty consistently match or exceed the Ultra. I'm wondering if Quad-fire can keep up the scaling...

Mine still sucks playing call of duty 4 or if any AA is turned on, oh crap I should waited for the 8800GT

Even overclocked to C2D 3.2GHz, the video card was choked so bad, its game action stopped for 2 seconds LOL! It was not only a slide show at 1600 X 1050, it was a slow stop action slide show. Crysis did a little better but again, turn on either AA or AF it sucks again. I must admit though even at a low res 1024 X 768 the game looks better. I could set pretty high settings with HalfLife2 E2 but after CoD4 and Crysis its visuals look weak.

Yepp, please guys. Keep talking about CrossFire because it sucks to use one of these alone. I overclock some and FPS went 2fps, so I set it back to stock. I'm thinking about taking a loss and sending back or trading to someone looking for a 2nd card for CrossFire

I'd send it back and get one of the new 8800GT's (now with a bigger fan!)

The universe will go on, indifferent to our brief existence, but while we are here we touch not just part of that vastness, but also the lives around us. Life is the gift each of us has been given. EH? With the latest cats, I am running Call of Duty 4 @ 1920 x 1080 at 4X AA with very smooth framerates on it overclocked to 860 / 1300. Something must be wrong with your setup. Either your PSU isnt up to snuff, or your overclock on the CPU / RAM is unstable.

Crysis runs at 1680 x 1050 very nicely. I dont turn on AA as to me its not worth the fps hit when the game already looks great at the resolution and high on.

Filed under WTF was I thinking. The one good thing might be that I bought from Best Buy so maybe i can take it back and at least avoid return shipping. The only difference between this thing the 18 and 1950 is at same same lower Res you can use higher details. Use a higher Res and then you have to lower details. Hi-Res lower details look worse than Lower (Not Low) Res with High Details.

Oh, it loves HalfLife 2 E-2, Medal Of Honor Airborne also. But newer games like Crysis and CoD4 is one of the Reasons I got the card. I didn't have Higher expectations and would have been happy with playable Frame Rates. One week separated me from getting an 8800GT just bad luck

Then to top it off, it doesn't have Video In. So no more OSD for my HK 247 Receiver Must be something to do with HDMI that it supports. Last but not least Visiontek's Retail Card is nothing more than an OEM card in a Fancy Box.

Price cut? If this is worth its price, then the 3870 should be sold for about $179 LOL!

    The card is quieter

    Do you even know what Trolling is? Before you put your foot in your mouth again, why don't ask a question first? Like;
You: Hey Donnie27, have tried the Crysis Hotfix?
Me; Yes I have the Hotfix installed.

Get it? Maybe I did do something wrong as a private Email from someone who knows me suggests. I'm open:P Now, would you like to try that or do you like coming off as a jerk trowing the Troll tag around? I bought this card to enjoy, not to belittle

I had Zero SCP problems with my X-Fi, know a tons of others who haven't as well. So when the ones with problems complain, are they Trolls?

All I can say is that I can run COD4 X4AA, everything else turned up at stock on a 3870 just fine, 1920 x 1200. This is on a Opty 185 at 3.1 and Vista 32bit. Maybe try re-installing your drivers as something is amiss

I'm thinking something is wrong too, now. I just wish folks would first try to be helpful before trashing out folks. Thank you for the advice without acting like the other guy I'm thinking I might not have removed one of the crtl apps or something. I tried it with my E6600 overclocked to 3.2GHz and then again at stock to make sure it wasn't throttling. If I get time to clean out EVERYTHING and anything named ATI, then re-install I'll report back.

The simplest way is to just run Driver Cleaner / Driver Sweeper. Thats pretty much guarantees a clean out of all NV/ATI stuff. I havn't had problems in particular with my 3870, though I am using XP-32bit, which is probably ideal. I'm happy with my card and am not running crossfire either. Perhaps your stock clocked e6600 is your bottleneck?

I agree with you on VIVO Donnie, it certainly sucks that the 38x0 do not have it. My old x1900xtx had video input though . I checked Newegg and the 8800GTs do not support video in either. I guess its just the companies trying to get us to buy their seperate tuners
