    It's the original release from 2001, no SP1 or SP2 inside, gold release. You need it to slipstream/integrate SP3 Pre-Beta. My "Master Volume" is at 85% and "Wave" at 80%, I don't experience any distortion. I wish I could record the crackling/rumbling I had, It sounded worse than BSODed PC while playing loud music.

    For those guys who are interested in the Driver. The Dolby Digital Live driver works great in both XP and Vista. According to testing.

    What would you like to know? I'm not much really into audio, but it sounds great to me. No crackle or anything and seems as though it puts out some serious sound without the distortion of the onboard audio. Just what I thought I was getting.

    I've talked to others who did agree that the X-Fi Prelude sounds better but not a Day and Night difference as others have said. I and everyone I talked said X-Fi sounds better=P Though clearly I think the X-Fi Prelude sounds better than X-FI too, there were other things "I" had a higher priority on. Hell I need a video card more than I need a sound card. If I owned an 8800 GT right now, then X-Fi Prelude would look a lot better to me. If I were building a new system, Ditto

    I've NEVER had any SCP on my current system. I had problems only on one out of 7 systems I tested Myself.

    The cards also cost over twice as much and everyone will NOT think the extra costs are worth it.

    Everybody I know that bought one thinks the card is was WELL worth the money. Most of those guys moved from Creative cards... You get what you pay for. Opinions vary...

    Of Course Rob but I can't say the same. I bought a 3870 instead of a Sound Card since I thought my replacing my 1800XT was a Higher priority So don't count me in on the "Worth it" croud. Yes I still think it is a very SWEETcard though.

    You can always use the X-Meridian and the X-fi together using our Velbac software.

    Unfortunately, The X-Meridian's are probably about the same as price as the Preludes if you can find one.

    I just popped mine in, got the software installed and hooked it up to my Yamaha 6030.. fantastic, sound is wonderful. Only slight annoyance is the 2.1 over digital output, half of my speaker system goes to waste.
    CPU: i5 2500k @ 4.2ghz
    RAM: g.skill 4gb ripjaws ddr3 1600
    MOBO: ASUS P8P67 Deluxe
    VID: HD6950 @ 850/1300 (for now)
    SOUND: Auzen X-Fi Prelude
    PSU: Seasonic X-560
    HDD: Seagate 500gb :: Samsung 500gb SATAII :: Samsung 1tb
    CASE: Antec P182 w/window
    COOLING: Panaflo 120x38mm medium-speed 2x :: Panaflo 120x25mm medium/low :: Thermalright Venomous X/ Delta 120x38mm low-speed

    You can change the setting on you receiver to play through all speakers while only getting 2.1 from the Card. Just set the receiver to any of its surround modes. This will Matrix or Spread the sound to the other speakers. It works for me. But, I personally like 2.1 for Music listening but Surround for play-alongs with my Bass

    I'm going to try that now, thanks. Just getting started with this stuff, only got it hooked up tonight!

    EDIT: Figured it out finally, had to switch to 48khz output. Now it's working beautifully.

    Oh sure you can if your stuff is good enough. Once you compare an original sourced 24bit/96KHz or 192KHz source material, like the separate track on the DVD Audio Version of Hotel California, you'll never make that statement again. The problem and mistake many folks make is NOT upgrading their source material. I'd take my X-FI and 24bit- 96KHz over anything out there in 16bit. Now if you want the best, I just got through listing to a 200 grain Album Steely Hi-FI recording. All analog Turn Table and Tube Pre and Power Amps.

    One of my favorite places for this stuff is Acoustic Sounds. When you can't spend 3 to 10K for just the Turn Table, it nice to have friends who can
