I'v been keeping eye on this thread and have gotten lots of useful info so i
though it'd post my Oc'ed results

This is my Stable Overclock of 12284 3dmark 06

managed to get a complete 3dmark 06 bench on 891 core but
was not stable when it came to gaming

This is with the stock cooler with fan fixed at 70% but i have ordered a Accelero AC-S1 should arrive on Thursday then might try out the higher voltage bios see if i can get a greater OC

    Score: 12051

    Clocks: Rivatuner reads 885/1291
    GPU-Z reads 877/1287

I used rivatuner to OC, catalyst overdrive is junk. And the autotune doesn't mean anything. Sure it can run those clocks, but not when gaming!

I'm going to try to aim the mem for a bit higher.

Since my mem is rated 1200mhz, usually 100mhz oc is very possible.

    Using non volt modded bios.

    PCIE Freq. at 104mhz.

    be back soon!
    Okay. Here it is.

I have discovered that running 3dmark06 once means nothing. Run the test 3 times in a row (it's a setting if u have the full version). That will determine true stability.

At certain higher clocks, It would complete 3dmark06 just fine. But if I set it to repeat x3, it would crash.

So the most stable clocks I have achieved are:

885/1311 <---EDTIED: accidentally put "855" on initial post

    GPU-Z reads: 877/1296

    3dmark06 Full testsx3 FINAL SCORE: 12198

I'd say, not bad. Not bad considering no voltage mods.

Remember people, those 1.377v and 1.47v bios's don't do anything.

885 will give you 877.5. Just tried it myself with Riva Tuners own hardware monitoring. The core will only increase in 13.5 increments. So 864, 887.5, 891, 904.5. Not sore if this is bios controlled or not. So even if you try 890 you'll still get 877. Hit 900 and you'll get 891, etc. Haven't checked how the memory increments.

wow...THANK YOU for informing me about this! I was hitting VPU recover all the time until i tried that actual 877core setting via rivatuner.

Has anyone tried those clocks mentioned above (877.5, 891, 904.5) with the new volted bios's?

Because of not, I'm the first to volunteer

    What about pci-e Frequency?

Okay, What about PCI-E frequency? what mhz should be used with SATA drives, and regular IDE drives?

I've read that ATI cards can't handle higher frequencies like the nvidia cards, is this true?

    bump!

I'm not giving up hope yet though. This card is very new. and The drivers for it are very new.

I just dunt understand how some people here are reaching above 860 core, and some cant?

It's the same core!! Yes temps matter but mine are so low! 31C idle, under 56 load!

    WTF....

I'll wait a bit longer, maybe a month. But if nothing improves, screw you ATI. i'll spend the extra cash to get a REAL gamer's graphics card.

it's too bad ATI's image quality is highly addictive tho...blargh

    ALSO:
I read at sapphire forums that the 3870 is built on the same principles as the x1950. from what i remember in the early days of the 1950pro's, the low level OCing for the memory only worked in 27mhz incriments.

    Just an idea...
    UPDATE:

Using RivaTuner and setting clocks to: 877:1339 is working flawlessly. I'm usin the 27mhz incriments increase on the memory (1126+27+27 etc...).
It's an old property of low level OCing of the 1950pros, so I guess it is based on the same principles..

Anybody else know anything about this?

increasing PCIE used to help some card's cores clock better... ati/nv both were able to do high PCIE frequencies if you look around. Max freq will depend on motherboard PLL's.

Right now I have it at 110mhz, Going to leave it at that for now. I read that going over 125mhz can damage your SATA drives, I tried 125 and got no post, had to press the magic button (Cmos reset)!

    UPDATE:

Okay 27mhz increments increase on the mem seems to be the most stable. I'm currently experiemnting with 21mhz increments as well.

I tried 7mhz increments, and that resulted in VPU recover.

I was able to run at 1339 using 27mhz increments but was getting artifacting. So right now my mem is at 1315 with very very little to no artifacting using 21mhz incriments.

Actually, i think the very very little artifacting is caused by the catalyst A.I.

Guys...stop clocking for 20 minutes please.

We all need/want voltmods for these cards...

Please can someone (ideally someone who also has a DMM) take some high-res fairly close-up pics of the control ICs for the cards and post them up here:

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=166623

The labels on the ICs would also be welcome

Im also surprised very few people are using water.

    Come on!!! Grow a set!

UPDATE: Older games like CSS and NFS carbon were running fine for hours at mem 1315 but when I ran COD4, I got VPU Recover. I put the mem back to default to make sure core was stable at 877mhz and it is.

Currently testing mem at 1288 (27x6) on newer games for stability

Water on a 55nm GPU? What for? lol it's like the same properties as the C2D CPU's. Shrink the die, less heat output, less power consumption.

I strongly believe water cooling will become obsolete in the future.

As soon as you add volts watercooling is more than welcome whatever the process is, i can't see it being obsolete in the forseeable future.
