damn this card still scales up ...even at 4.5ghz...
sishh
neary 900points jump on sm3...
a bit disappointed that penryn quads cant hit 500fsb
hmm looks like have to find a batch no that can.
Wow, great results Pinto, gotta love these 3870's in crossfire. Hopefully, when the drivers mature, we'll see even more.
The bios seems fine. Haven't tried any voltage increas bioses, but I've run a 3d06 at 891/1395. The score was only 10.5K, but then I'm running a Opty 185 at 3.1 and a untweaked Vista.

http://www.iax-tech.com/video/3800biosmod/03.htm
currently trying the 830/2400
hmm can somebody check the voltages for the 3 bios for hd3870 ....
ty
oh yeah the reason i ran the 830/1200 cause this was supposedly the original clocks for this card.

oh yeah how come those guys have a editor..
that looks like an amd editor
i thought the amd clock editor doesnt work right or hd3870 because of the toolib file..
can to enlighten me on this ppl??
If you're asking you probably havent done enough research..
All along the watchtower the watchmen watch the eternal return.
Well, I can confirm that modding the voltage values in the bios has no effect. My temps are exactly the same under load...43C @ 877/1314 using ATiTool cube, and it did not help me gain any room on the Core.

Did anyone get a blank screen after flshing any of the overvolt BIOS?
I'm getting blank screens...
Seems everyone is using the overvolt BIOS just fine except me...
Have I got the unlucky GPU?
Anyone Help...
What brand of 3870 seems to oce the best?
For now all the HD 3870 are on reference design...
So it seems that the brand really matters...
It's just how lucky you get with your GPU and RAM...
Apparently I see no different designs of the HD 3870.
The overclocked version simply has a BIOS that overclocks the core a bit which you can achieve simply by flashing the BIOS.
Not exactly the questions you should ask considering the nature of the forum.
Why are the 1.377v and 1.499v BIOSes missing a product name and BIOS version...
Also it give the device ID 0.
I've tried dozen of time and could only get a lousy blank screen!!!![]()
I am really anxious to try out the BIOS but since I'm getting blanks nothing can be done with the volt modded BIOS.
Am I using it the right way?
a:\atiflash -f -p 0 biosname.bin
this command shoudl suffice...
Help Please~~~![]()
The question was which brand is known to have high capability on overclocking...
It is undoubtedly dependent of the temperature but the VGA product itself is the same reference design with the same stock cooler and BIOS...
So what I was saying is buying a different brand of HD3870 is independent of the overclocking capabilities...
Uhmm to bad I expected more from the HD3870 cards.
8800 GT's can overclock from 600 > 735 thats more then 20%. And these cards have problems hitting 875 from 775 MHz. 13,3% only.
I guess my HD3870 wont be any better then the ones you have here. And that bios is not unleashing anything. Only if you go voltmoddingTo bad is was hoping on a OC monster and clock like 900-950.
System Specs: -=Game PC=- | -=Lan Box=-
I agree. I am just as disapointed.
I was hoping for this 55nm tech. to not only OC and be on par with the 8800GT, but to consider it performing better than the 8800GT due to this "new core", which is showing colourless "flying colours".
I'm not giving up hope yet though. This card is very new. and The drivers for it are very new.
I just dunt understand how some people here are reaching above 860 core, and some cant?
It's the same core!! Yes temps matter but mine are so low! 31C idle, under 56 load!
WTF....
I'll wait a bit longer, maybe a month. But if nothing improves, screw you ATI. i'll spend the extra cash to get a REAL gamer's graphics card.
it's too bad ATI's image quality is highly addictive tho...blargh
ALSO:
I read at sapphire forums that the 3870 is built on the same principles as the x1950. from what i remember in the early days of the 1950pro's, the low level OCing for the memory only worked in 27mhz incriments.
Just an idea...
Sorry to hear about your troubles. If you're not getting over 860 then there are a few possiblities. One, maybe you didn't get the new bios flashed correctly. Two, you need to use a better cooler. Three, you just got unluckly. Not all of these are going to overclock as well as others. I wish I could get the 900 core some people are getting. Also things will oc a little more when we get some increased voltage. Overall, I'm very happy with mine, cant wait to get another and run some crossfire.
Okay guys, I finally Oc'ed at stable clocks.
3dmark06 FULL TEST passed.
Score: 12051
Clocks: Rivatuner reads 885/1291
GPU-Z reads 877/1287
I used rivatuner to OC, catalyst overdrive is junk. And the autotune doesn't mean anything. Sure it can run those clocks, but not when gaming!
I'm going to try to aim the mem for a bit higher.
Since my mem is rated 1200mhz, usually 100mhz oc is very possible.
Using non volt modded bios.
PCIE Freq. at 104mhz.
be back soon!![]()
