because single slot cooler i think is better.

is that a UV light on teh 3870?
it's the same core, but they're using GDDR3 on the 3850, and GDDR4 on the 3870. Other than the memory, the difference is in the core/memory speeds.

Hardwarecanucks one is the best review so far. Lots of games, lots of resolutions, AA and no AA results. I like it.

But honestly, I don´t trust any review. When I get my card, I will see much more fps than the reviews say, it was the same for HD2900XT, X1950XTX and so on. There are plenty of "cheats" right there, like forcing AA through CCC instead in each game menu. This boost the scores way up. Same goes for AF, forcing it through CCC actually kills perfomance, when it´s selected inside the game menu the fps go up drastically. And trust me, the IQ is exactly the same.

one is ddr3 and the other ddr4 accordingly...
looks like its the volts that need a bump as every card seems to hit that same core speed... i wonder if we will be able to change this in the bios by manipulating it with a hex editor.....(like whats being done with the 2900xt this week)

    ooooh

Are the DuOrbs back in stock at Newegg?

    edit: They are!

Will there be a mod'd bios to unlock GPU beyond 860MHz? Or are you relying on W1z to come up with something?

I don't think RT has voltage modification options for HD3870 cards yet but I will check.

Personally, I can't see modded BIOS coming out for some time but you never know what will happen.

On the other hand, I am experimenting with Crossfire overclocking and even though it does increase my clock frequencies on both cards the performance increase is minimal (only 600 points). ATI needs some updated drivers for Crossfire and Vista x64, that's for sure.

MC are on die. They simply were cutting costs, saving transistors and obviously were not hurting performance a noticeable amount.

Hopefully we won't need to for the average overclocker. I'll be disappointed if we can't play with the voltages in ATI tool once a new one comes out that supports the 3000 series.
The little air system that could.

RV670 + LN2, as long as there is no bios bug/wall, sounds like it would be hitting at least 1.3ghz hopefully 1.4-1.5ghz or maybe even higher...
Especially once you can start pumping in however many watts/volts you want through the PCI-e2.0 slot.

    Cooler = hideous.

If I were to use any non stock cooler, it'd be the Thermaltake DuOrb, or I'd just get an HIS IceQ 3870 (HIS said they are going to make them )
