First off you would need a secondary Bios chip the (Exact) same one as whats in you're Board and you also need the Board functioning that too is also a Must and you still run the risk of it gettiing ESD Damage and also dropping on the Board and frying something and you may damage both Bios chips and Motherboard in the process!

Smile Here is my initial overclocking results

This is my first attempt at overclocking with the new DFI motherboard. I am looking for suggestions as to what to adjust. I am on the verge of overheating, and I am not sure why (other than it was a recent install, so perhaps the AS5 thermal paste needs more time to cure). Based on these results, and my signature, what should I try next?

Please check revised image to ensure it is now readable. Also, does anyone know what the recommended/maximum sizes are for posting images to this site?

    Bios 2007/11/07

    Hi,

I´ve recognized that DFI provides the download of the official BIOS dated 2007/11/07.

    Download:
    http://eu.dfi.com.tw/Upload/BIOS/LP35DB07.zip

    Download DiamondFlash Image:
    http://eu.dfi.com.tw/Upload/BIOS/LP35DB07.exe

    Major Reasons of Change:
Update Micro code for Yorkfield and Wolfdale.
Did someone already flashed the new version? Are there any gains in performance/stability?

    Keen

11/7/07 Official is stable but so is 9/13/07 and only performance gain from 9/13/07 would be 10/05/07 Beta

my previous 1.3v @ 400x8 fails orthos after 8 hours, but passes at 6 hours now. weird.

upped the voltage to 1.325. lets see where that gets me

im not going above 1.35v on this stock cooler, when i tried 425x8 at 1.4v, temps soared to 78-80C

Just ordered two HIS Radeon HD 3870's from NCIX... gonna play with them in this board for a bit till I get my hands on an x38.

Hardware Canucks got a sample of the HIS 3870 and took the gddr4 from 2254mhz to 2748mhz LINKY

I'll post some results when they arrive
I expect the crossfire results to be a bit nerfed though since the second slot is only 4x. Will see if increasing the pci-e frequency helps.

Hi guys, I just got the board.. Is it normal for it to not recognise voltages for Ballistix ram? I've updated to the latest bios and can't for the life of me get it to boot with Ballistix without having to swap out the ram with some cheap samsung 667mhz to adjust voltages. Otherwise it's C1 all the way. It's freaking troublesome changing ram too, because the graphics card just happens to be sitting on the module locking latch :@

And another question, any performance drops using the second PCI-E slot (middle one, not closest to cpu socket)? From what I understand only the first slot gets 16x

I have two kits of ballistix 8500 here and both work flawlessly, posts fine at stock, overclocks like a monster. If you kit is old or has been used in a 680i mobo I would take a guess and say it's suffering from electron migration or is damaged.

Yes there with be noticable performance drops using the second PCI-e slot, as it only runs at 4x speed maximum(after switching in bios).

It was used in the DS3 in my sig, and the most it did was 2.3v at around 420MHz 4-4-4-12, or 2.2v 500MHz 5-5-5-15..

But alright I guess I know it's meant to work.. could it by any chance mean the board is damaged, and not the RAM? I assembled the whole think rather carelessly in an airconditioned room by the way, so I'm not surprised if ESD is a cause..

Anyway I have 4 more sticks of the same ram, brand new, so I'll try them if ever I get C1 again

EDIT: I'm using DIMM 2 and 4 also, because the Ultra-120 goes slightly over DIMM 1.. does that matter?

2nd EDIT: Smartguardian and EVEREST both report ~2.17v VDIMM, even though it's set to 2.23 in BIOS. Is this some funky version of vdroop or.. again, something to do with RAM/mobo damage?

I use DIMM's 1 and 3 because I prefer the better clips (havn't done comparative testing).

SG's readings are inaccurate. Earlier in the thread someone measured vDIMM with a multimeter and what is set in bios is accurate.

You can try booting in with the crappy stick, setting voltage to 2.35v, saving, shutting down, and putting in ballistix.

I used 2 & 4 for a week due to being too lazy to move them back after testing them, I found they ran identicaly to 1 & 3.
