Yeah, stupid me, I tried for the 9x415MHz as was denied once again. But as gesture of good faith for trying to achieve the unachievable--for me, at least--my OS decided to take a crap on me. It wouldn't have been so bad except my RAID10 array starting spitting out error after error, over 300 and still counting, before I decided to pull the plug. I never learn.....

Even running at 400FSB I couldn't get any of the memory dividers to boot except for 106XMHz on the 400FSB strap, iirc. Even when running my RAM @ 2.3V (actual) and 5-6-6-18 timmings I couldn't hit 12XX on the 266 strap or the 12xx on the 333 strap (Strap still set to AUTO but I believe that's where the two dividers are found). I can't remember what combination of Static Rd/Trans Booster/Relax lvl I used but I will give it another go once I finish w/ my OS(s) install.

    ARGH!!!!!!

Great OC, and yes, you should be rather rock solid now. Thanks for the try, at least now people know OCCT RAM is the way to go, and if it bugs, its an OC issue

Code 1 : thread stopped because another thread stopped
Code 2 : stop by user
    Code 3 : memory error
    Code 4 : calculation error

Error codes are not well onscreen displayed in this beta. Go in the OCCT folder, you have text files named thread0x.txt. Each thread is for a different CPU core. In each thread you have a code. Usually you'll get a code 4 in one of the threads as even if the problem is memory/NB related, it will lead to calculation error

If you reset the CMOS and try the enter the BIOS with your flash drive attached (containing only a BIOS and .CMO CMOS file) it will hang on detecting the drive....you must remove it, hard boot, then boot into your OS, insert the drive, reboot, and it will work.
    Meh
You can also store to the profiles on the OC backup program . There are two.

Man I really want to go higher on my board! I'm only loading at 50-57C at 3.6! I don't know why I can't post higher than 400 MHz....this is seriously killing me....
Simplest is just to flash from floppy w/ EZ-Flash, drag and drop to floppy and only inser just before entering EZ-Flash menu.

This mobo is very pick with RAM deviders and especially if in the black slots. Move to white slots to get more stable for DDR1150 or 1200. Also, for the higher FSB OC, try 1:1 to eliminate the devider instability issue and see what that gets you. I get 500FSB easy with very little effort over that of 450 - 475 settings.

I am on a test devider for 475x8 @ 4:5, DDR1180 @ 5-5-5-15 but @ 2.32v. and it scores more in Everest RAMBench but doesnt feel all that better then 500x7, 1:1 DDR1000 @ 4-4-4-12. Pluss I dont like having to give the Tracers that much volts

Air cooling for the North Bridge... Obviously the Maximus has a fusion water block fitted but I really don't want to go down that route. (The Non SE version is not available here either so don't ask why I didn't get that) So what are you guys using air cooling, using for cooling the North Bridge?? Preferably I want something not too noisey!

I have an Antec P182SE case with a Top and Rear 120mm fan on medium. I also have an Antec Spot Cool fan, attached to the mobo next to and directed at my memory. Then there is a 120mm in the centre of the lower chamber, again on medium but thats just for the drives and PSU.

I just got another 2x Antec 120mm Tricool fans, one of which I will put in the front of the case in the upper chamber but haven't fitted it as yet... I'm thinking of using the other 120mm fan for a Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme for the CPU, these are supposed to be one of the best CPU coolers aren't they??

One of the best coolers for NB and SB too. It will suerely be as efficient as water for a chipset

    Well I'm running 4Gb so I can't switch slots....they're all full!
I wasn't aware that there was divider issues, so I'll try running the RAM 1:1 and see what happens....

Oh yea, I haven't used floppy disks in years! I just keep one of my older USB flash drives in the back of my PC for flashing. This mobo actually has onboard memory for saving profiles too.

I got a pair of Hr-05 slis but how do you fasten them, since there arenīt any 'standard holes for the snap-on thingys. And how do your remove this "fuzion" heatsink?

Use a hairdryer to heat the fuzion block and be gentle otherwise you could end up taking the hs and/or chip with it....

Yep, Anandatech in their test found it is glued with epoxy to the heatsink. To install the HR-05 you need to unmount the heatsink, not the Fuzion block. The block you can unmount it once the heatsink removed

The heatpipe continues further, covering part of the separate PWM heatsink, with an Aluminum fin section. A small fan is supplied that clips onto the Aluminum section of the heatsink, helping to cool the Northbridge and we suggest using it.

Oh right... Hmmn. I'm thinking something much simpler now: Clickety Click

It says on the small fan supplied with the Maximus 'For use in junction with Passive Cooler or Water Cooler ONLY'. Its not going to hinder the CPU fan that much surely? Anyone else using this small Asus fan?

There is no way to get SLI working on this motherboard ? Is it only a matter of driver support ?

No SLI unless someone hacks for the 8800's. You can run 7900 SLI with the old hacked drivers. I have the 2x2gb PC8000 G.Skills. I like them. I can run them at 1088 5-5-5-15 and rest auto at 2.1v. I did end up putting a 120mm fan on my memory and NB which droped my NB temps 10* and of course my ram is no longer toasty.

Search posts in this thread by GAR. He tried the G. Skill set initially, but has since RMAed his Maximus. He did a lot of experimenting.

I'm using them with no problem. Running at 400*9 with the memory at 1:1. Just using SPD timings so far.

Can someone advise me of the MAX temps I should be looking out for on NB/SB and CPU? I guess the CPU is down to the type, but where would I find this for my E6550?

Just wondered if there was anyone running with equal to or less than my E6550 on the Maximus?

so 42ºC CPU after running 3Dmark06 isn't too much of a hinderence then, thats ok. Have ordered a Thermalright 120 xtreme today so hopefully that'll bring it down further anyway!!

Well I got things somewhat sorted out here.

    BIOS: 0602
    9x400MHz
    FSB Strap: Auto
    PCIE Freq: 100
    DDR2-1066MHz
    5-4-4-12-3-42-6-3
    8-3-5-4-6-4-6
    Dram Static Rd: Disabled
    Ai Clock Twister: Strong
    Trans Booster: Enabled
    Relax lvl: 0

Got better clocks w/ Dram Static disabled and Trans enabled than I did with Dram Static enabled and Trans Disabled. There is still more tweaking to do with the timming but I am pretty happy thus far.

Go for another Maximus it's the best motherboard I've had, maybe I'm lucky but it takes whatever I throw at it, the only thing I can't make work is RAID apart from that superb.

Use a USB thumb drive, easy as that
