Well I've failed Prime95 twice at 3.6.....I set my VCore a little bit higher and failed again....I bumped the NBV a little as well. I'm hoping I can get it stable, but I may need to just stay at 3.4 until another BIOS is available....
MAN this board is unstable :\
Awesome for Crossfire performance, which is why I bought it.

Yep... wait it out for next BIOS. This board performs totally solid at 3.4GHz with plenty of slack for truely outstanding memory latencies.

Back on Bios 0505...temps are more accurate IMO, and system feels nicer over all...

Anyone know the ETA of a new bios? Asus really need to step up their game now, as the Abit is going to smash the Maximus soon enough!

what bios are you running simkin? air or water cooled? i'd say SPU PLL, FSBT, NB, voltages are important. hell, all are important. what i did is looked in the manual for the highest normal settings (except for DRAM) and set it to that. i worked my way back from there to find what was stable. that was for the 3.8 though. 3.9 was another story.
    using 0602 bios

run it on air, Noctua NH-U12F

if i set it to 3.6, what should the voltages be on? i have tried some of the voltages other people are using on 3.6 in here, but 79 celsius is a bit hot. and i get error in stress test

on 3.4 its 68 celsius full load

The stock BIOS wouldn't be anywhere near 79c at 3.6GHz, the temp bug is very annoying.

Oh these is Interesting, I sent in a Techical Inquiry to asus Detailing all the bugs
    like so.
    Code:
    1) Abnormal High temps on the CPU, Northbridge
    2) Failed Posting sometimes
    3) Motherboard will overvolt CPU and the CPU will not drop under 35C no matter what cooling or
    voltage.
    4) the 400mhz Memory strap is broken
    5) Some other memory straps are broken
    6) Motherboard doesn't like supply CPU voltage over 1.69
    7) Motherboard demands too much voltage in general
    8) Sometimes can not post with 2 sticks of Crucial Ballstix Tracer 2GB PC2-8500 installed
    9) Slowly/Hardly Detects single IDE Hard-drive, its the only IDE device on that cable.
    10) If stress testing and CPU is failing, The LCD Poster will blink for no reason.
and they told me to RMA it -_- some help they are.

It's terrible how they failed to acknowledge 'any' of the points you mention.
You only laid a handful of problems to them though... the randomly forced over voltage of the FSB Termination to 2.0v after a failed OC or BSOD is a particularly nasty one.

They should have said "RMA it to get the same model with the same problems,"

You should reply back to them and get them to realise that this is serious, unless by chance they managed to ship out an enormous batch of bad boards, which wouldn't bode well for them... but I don't see how that can be the case, it's definitely specifically related to poor BIOS coding imho.

The board itself is solid, they just didn't spend enough time perfecting the BIOS before release, which says a lot about their obviously flawed QA'ing department. Who the hell tests these boards before release? a bunch of lazy gits with no eyes.

Oh, I only have the 1.02G why don't they inform people of what these board revisions have changed.

Just came across this btw: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1235721

    so the temp is wrong?

maybe i should go back to 0505 bios? or try the new 07 bios?

Sorry I'm just being a big tease but I think I will correct this now before I get flamed

Anyway it's not the same board - this board is the non-SE version.

    Hence the revision number change.

I'd personally recommend trying 0505 out, I've been trying them all out but have decided to settle with 0701 purely because it helped with tighter memory latencies.

Would be nice to see temp comparisons, because I have a feeling there wont be much difference.

Well i just received the board an hour now but I got other stuff to do atm.

Also I plan to take apart the assembly before turning it on though and reseat with AS5.

If I do it after turning on, I may not be able to get the assembly off. Unless someone has a suggestion?

Well if it's anything like the SE assembly, the NB should pop out too

I usually find it helpful to subject the top of hard to remove heatsinks with a bagged icecube to cool the metal, then gently twist to loosen the initial bond between the surfaces.

Well I've come to realize all these issues are memory related. I tried a set of 2x1gb Crucial Balistixs PC 6400 D9's at the same speeds I've tried with these G.Skills. Well they where worse. I did achive better latencies and better 1m times but they would crash Vista doing a mem test with OCCT. I also flashed to 505 and retested. It was a little better but still just as unstable. So I put the G.Skills back in and retested with 505. The load line calibration would pump vCove up by .05v and my CPU temps where better at idle and slightly worse under load. System was just as unstable and would stop OCCT at the exact same spot, but memory performance was worse then 701. So I'm back on 701 running 423x9 with 5:6 mem div. I'll just have to hold out and see where the next BIOS release takes me.

Well I'm stable at 412 FSB so far... this CPU likes voltage but I am OK with 1.55 set in bios...

I definitely agree with you there. Most of the issues I had at high FSB were memory related too.

Bought this Maximus some weeks ago and sold my Blitz Formula, so far very satisfied with 24/7 clocks and good temps. I have 0701 bios and temps are not correct of course like all said here. No problems for me with crashes so far.
