A small part of the blame is mine (piddly little rigs of mine don't add up to much) because my rigs were down most of the day while I was applying polyurethane to my new shelving stand. Damn particle board was out-gassing so bad that I could not stand it anymore.

What a difference a little Min Wax water based polyurethane makes, now no more burning eyes and nose.

Don't look at me. New quad is up. Did almost double the number of points I normally average and its only on 2.9 ghz. Will bump that up to at least 3.2 in a couple days.

Has anyone noticed a points dropoff when switching to hcc units from the faah units? It looks like I have dropped a few thousands a day since switching. I know a lot of people are now only running the cancer units. Maybe this is contributing to our dropoff the last couple of days

I was thinking the same thing. Also, there are fewer of those really short DDDT work units which I think boosted individual and team averages.

I was just looking at the global stats and noticed they were down from 1-2 weeks ago.

I suppose the only way of knowing for sure is disconnecting from the cancer project for several days to see if your individual numbers improve. Of course, some people don't want to do that because they consider the cancer project to be very important, and I understand and respect that.

There's one 3 bulb fixture that tends to be on almost all the time..app 6 weeks ago I sprung for 1 5 pack of these new fancy low wattage bulbs..3x13w versus 3x100..supposed to last 5 years and $13.00 for the 5 pack..

You should check with your local utility company. Some utilities offer rebates or discount coupons if you buy those energy-efficient bulbs.

about the 5-year thing . . . uhhhhh . . . don't count on it.

I replaced every bulb in my house over a year ago and of the lights that are on almost continuously, it seems like there's a 50-50 chance that they'll only make it about a year. I still think it's worth it though. The bulbs are down to less than $3 each if you get them at Costco, Sam's Club, etc. Since a 100watt bulb uses about $8.64 (@ $0.12/kwh) and 23 watt equivalent uses about $2, you save twice that for every month you use them 24/7. Can't beat that with a stick.

If everyone is talking about "Compact Fluorescent" bulbs then there are some things that you should know...

1) They contain Mercury which is a hazardous metal and if the bulb is broken you risk Mercury absorption in your body which never leaves and builds up to toxic levels. To have the area professionally cleaned up can run from $2,000-$3,000 dollars. Also if you don't turn them into a hazardous waste recycle location they end up in landfills where they pollute the earth and can get into the drinking water supply and cause bad health issues.

2) They are only made in China and China is bringing on average one coal fired power plant per week and since China has NO air quality standards or expensive scrubbers on the power plants you are actually aiding in the destruction of the planet to save yourself a couple of bucks. <gets off soap box>

ok, I'll make everyone happy. When they wear out I will store them in a padded box in my closet. They will be there till I'm dead with a note on the box to save for eternity..
In the meantime they are saving me money and that I like.

Standard fluorescent light tubes use mercury vapor. Electricity excites those vapors. This causes the so-called fluoresce which produces the light. Don't ever drop one of those tubes. They shatter into a million pieces. Takes forever to clean up.

That's today's science lesson. Class dismissed.

3) I've checked all aspects of solar power to have electricity, and i am installing it in my new house. The system is fairly easy, and in the next weeks, government here will instantiate a nice law that will give me back 3 or 4 times the price for the electricity i produce through the solar cells, which will bring down to 5 years the 'amortization time' for the whole system...

That's nice..Here it's 26 years payoff so not worthwhile and since the parts themselves have a max life of 25 years it's just not a good investment from strictly a $$ perspective..

Unfortunately America is not as enlightened as your country when it comes to alternative energy. The cost of installing solar panels is beyond the financial reach of many Americans. Some home builders are installing panels in new houses. So attitudes are changing a little.

Really weird the US doesn't give more incentive for people to install solar panels, it's really an easy solution, and you have plenty of areas in the US with plenty of sun...
Been in a developer conference 2 years ago in Palm Springs ( Cali ) and was overwhelmed by the amount of wind turbines i saw over there, so i was under the impression you guys had a few years ahead :-)

There is a very large wind farm about an hour's drive from my home. It's located in the Altamont Pass and is one of the most famous wind farms in the world (see picture below). But those giant turbines are all owned by the utility companies. Wind power for the average homeowner is not very practical because you need a turbine with a very long rotor span to generate enough electricity to power a home. The bigger wind turbines are very expensive. Also, zoning laws probably forbid the installation of large turbines in densely-populated areas.

America is still, for the most part, an oil-loving nation.

A few months ago I researched the cost of installing solar panels here.
House is nothing special..2200sq ft split level, well insulated for the timeframe it was built(1979)
To generate 2700KWH/month would take an investment of $78,000.00 just for the parts, no labor..
Using a $300.00 month current(summer) elec cost that would be 21.67 years payback and that doesn't include any interest on the loan required to do the job.
Just not practical in this country to do it and that is a real shame given the current costs of oil,etc not to mention the "green" effect that could be added if this was done on a major scale in the USA.
