Great article. What would be optimal is a guide of safe voltages for this new mb, voltages needing active cooling, their effect on OC limits...

That's why it would be great if people add these info to their signatures, but hey, quite no one do it, so we can't benefit from others expierience

Any way, just about the GTL Ref voltage. As of that interview in my previous link and J Max tests on the maximus, it doesn't have quiete any impact on the OC margins

ok, i just enabled static read control and disabled transaction booster with relax 1 and my CPU core temps skyrocketted from 36 idle (before) to now 60 idle. I changed them back to auto after seeing those temps and now my CPU is idling at 55, wuts going on?

As my Kingston Hyper-X memory states Latency: 4-4-4-12 & Volt: 2.0V. I have set these in the BIOS. Should I run the memory any higher than 2.0V or not? Looking at the datasheet, are there any other tweaks I can do:

    http://www.valueram.com/datasheets/KHX6400D2LLK2_2G.pdf

As a first overclock with this board, I set the FSB to 350. The PC booted into Xp fine, I ran 3DMark06 and it increased my score by over another 100 points! Tried 355 FSB and got a BSOD on bootup! Any tips?

Glad the install went fine now mate with the SP2 XP

Did you adjust ya ram speed too Lawns ? each mhz you add to the FSB results in another ram speed being set , you have to set one closest to ya normal ram speed... might require some more NB voltage too...

Have you tried running with static read control enabled and transaction booster disabled with relax level 1 ? I get very high FSB then with less voltages for the NB

Also for ya ram if I set 2.0 volts in the bios , reboot it , I look at the hardware monitor voltages and it's almost 2.1 volts being read out... so I set ram voltage a bit lower to apprach the stock value...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Did you update to 0701 bios ? it seems to falsely indicate CPU temp, it's about 8°C more than the cores here.. so I only read out via coretemp as a guideline...

So for the extra posting, I'm at work ( taking a break) and the lappie here doesn't allow me to do multiquote

I'll test that now but my temps haven't budged at all, I always run it like that so if I set it on auto I should get a drastic reducement in temps then ?

Okay I tried both, results in zero temps difference here, I don't know what brought that drastic increasement in temps... sure ya thermaltake isn't acting up ?

It's actually faster 5-5-5-18 over 5-5-5-15. At least running superpi 1m.

Have u tried a different stap set 333 fsb strap in bois that will change divider
to 5:6 and run memory faster at about 530mhz + should be able to go up to 466 x 8 with 5:6 divider.

I have a few really good boards in stockpile right now and this is the current favorite over my P5B Deluxe, EVGA 680i A1, BlackPearl - P5K Premium, and P5k Deluxe wi-fi. This board may not hit 530+ fsb like my P5k does but thats fine with me because this board makes up for it in a lot of other areas. I just wish I had a couple super fast ATI cards instead of my 8800gtx gear...
try to disable transaction booster, it may help u hit 530+ or close to it^^

Does that mean any RMA'd Maximus Formula's are going to be upgraded to the next board with the X48? I wonder what their RMA volume is for this board. Seems a lot of people on this threed have RMA'd their board 2-3x.

Ok guys, I've been trying to get 475MHz stable on this board with NO success! I've tried crazy higher northbridge volts, higher vPLL, higher vFSBT and nothing gets it stable. Even removing 2 sticks of ram didn't work!!!!

What settings, in the bios not actual, are you guys using for 475MHz? Please help me here, I can get such a nice compromise of FSB/CPU speed if I can get 475MHz stable with OCCT/Memtest...!

I can not get anything over 450 FSB to work. 451-459 will post but it won't go into windows. Also I can't seem to run this ram at over 1:1. I've tried all the deviders and it won't post cept 1:1. And at 800 mhz I can run it 4-4-4-12 but at 900 I can't run CAS 4. Can run 5-4-4-12 but that is it, and It doesn't even seem to be helping anything. I'm a little iffy about going over 2.2v actual with this ram. Being it's 2.0-2.1v specs I don't want to burn it out. I've taken it to 2.2v and still no success. I have lowered my Vcore to 1.4000 in BIOS 1.384v actual in CPU-Z which brought my temps down 4*. So I'm stuck at 450 FSB which is still a nice OC IMHO. I think I'll wait for the next BIOS update to put a few more hours into this rig.

Good review over and AnandTec. I tried their 450 FSB setting and it runs just as good as what I had. They have a few more auto settings which I was going manual and it lowered my SB voltage by .2v. So now just time to work on getting stable on lowest possible voltage, and squeeze some more performance out of it in it's current state.

I smell a ROG X48 in testing already to replace these if the Maximus EOL is right. But I want solid proof that Maximus is EOL.

2x2GB kits are harder to get high speeds with, they are a tough load to drive compared with 1GB modules. 450 is quite nice even still...
