    Chipset version 8.3.0.1011 buddy

Also (in case you haven't), make sure your using BOTH 4 pin 12v connectors at the top left of board (one is blanked with a piece of plastic).

Hmm ok, so an older chipset version.
The newer just seems to work with other people though, so that should not be where my problem resides.

Also, I created a new thread about this issue, since I felt like polluting this one a bit too much with my own problems :p

Feel free to check/reply on it: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=163183
    Thanks guys

Lat one from me on this - have you done the regedit yet to either rename the iastor registry entry or delete it - both the links I posted strongly indicate that will fix the problem which is being caused by LPM being enabled in the driver. Further googling finds this is also applicable to winxp. As per second link instructions:

If available, install updated firmware for the device.
Delete the iastor(v) Parameters registry key by using the following steps:

    1. Go to Start -> Search.
    2. Type in RegEdit and hit the Enter key.
    3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\iaStor(v).
    4. Right-click on the Parameters key under iaStor(v) and select the Delete option.

First link fix does the same but by renaming rather than deleting. there is an iastor and istorv key. I renamed the parameter file in both just to test with no ill effects.

    I only have the following:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\iaStor\Parameters

(there's no iaStorv on my computer, I mean)

I did rename it right now, we'll see if it gets any better.
The annoying part is that the error isn't showing up each time I'm copying a large file, so we'll have to wait and see...

(though, I moved large files from one partition to another for 30 minutes earlier today, and no errors still... if at least it was showing up each time, testing would be easier)

    progress report --

For a bit of added insurance I upped the NB voltage to 1.70 and currently have a clock of (7x535MHz = 3745MHz) going.

Not a world record by any stretch... but still more than I had expected these parts would get me on air without going to the extent of lapping heatsinks and such.

Its also hard to say which type of overclocking is going to work better over the long run. Both max CPU and max FSB have their strong points, it just depends on what I'm doing with the system at a given time that determines which is faster.

Well, I posted a message in the thread I opened yesterday here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=163183

About my issue: disabling the LPM didn't seem to help in any way (except that no iaStor error showed up this time, but still, I had a BSOD while moving a large file from one drive to another...)

Have a look at this re max cpu or FSB - its an interesting article.http://www.thetechrepository.com/showthread.php?t=195 helped me fully understand what I have been doing for the last couple of years.

Thank's, I've used that page in the past... very useful indeed.

    Now testing at (7x540MHz = 3780MHz)

I also bought one of those OCZ XTC memory coolers yesterday. Kinda figured since I've been pushing things a bit that installing one certainly couldn't hurt.
Talk about bright blue LED's though!

Your going well with that E6850. whats your BIOS settings and the CPU batch number . I have one in the drawer - an L719B027 I have been meaning to sell .I stopped using it when I bought the q6600 - it would boot 495x8 but seemed to have a 500FSB wall. I might dig it out and give it another try as I havent got the cooling to get the quad above 3.6 and have nothing to do apart from wait for games.

Only thing different to my set up is the PCI-E @ 118 , that seems high, i never been over 101 could that be why my FSB wall is 444 ?

Water but those settings are only for the 500FSB benching. I'm keep it lower than that for 24/7.

NOTE: RAM timings are a bit loose (I plan to try tightening them later once I have the overclock I'm looking for) Voltages aren't set in stone either.

My sound just went out today and I was wondering if anyone else has had any trouble with their sound? Everything appears o-k in Device Manager and I did try another set of speakers.
    Thanks.

I too have the SATAII issue with a WD 500GB AAKS drive. Problem goes away as soon as disconnect this particular drive.

I've been in contact with ASUS and they've emailed me BIOS 0301. I tried this BIOS today (been using 0402 for the last week) and this still doesn't cure the problem.

At this point I would have to recommend that any of you guys looking to buy a P5K Premo don't do it. Stay well clear of this board until ASUS get this sorted

OK noob question.... what's the diff. between SATA I and II ports? There are 4 red ones and a couple of black ones. Are those SATA I or II? I remember with the premium when I tried connecting my 500 AAKS to the first red one it would not work well at all.. hang/random problems booting/take forever installing windows, etc. It was so bad, I ended up returning that and getting a Deluxe, which has worked flawlessly.

That's what annoys me. I've read this all over the www but imho I don't see why I should have to do this because of a manufactures f up.

Other than this SATA issue I absolutely love this mobo

Am I correct in assuming that I jumper pins 5-6 to get the AAKS to function in sata mode rather than sataII mode?

ok i just got my p5k premium and installed vista 64 home premium with 2 wd drives on raid 0... everything was working fine yesterday when i had the 204 bios and then i forget what i was doing but eventually i rebooted the system and it wouldnt boot... then after some screwin around it eventually booted but now before i get into windows it shows the raid array screen and it says the drive is bootable but on one of the drives it has a red error message beside it although it boots fine and has been working ok i think.

what does this mean? should i try wiping everything and reinstalling?

if i do wipe everything was is the best program to use to save everything i have on the drive right now? or would this maybe transfer the same problems to the freshly wiped array?

btw i flashed to the 402 bios today.
