one question, if the 8800gts dominates everything but the ultra. wouldnt this mean the new 8800gts with the 65nm core would dominate everything ABOVE the ultra?

not sure if i seen this mentioned in this thread, but within the expreview.com preview is a link to them overclocking the shaders as well, using expertool (also says non of the other overclocking tools let you overclock shaders). says they couldn't release numbers cause nvidia was pressuring them not too. It's in english too

it kinda implies a significant increase in terms of benching.. if its scored ~14000 in 3dmark06 with 700/1000/1500 core/mem/shader clocks.. says they overclocked shaders to 1700. So if anyone gets a GT soon, don't forget to try this as well!

I am guessing a lot of etailers won't even get it until launch day, which means it won't be listed in stock until 10/30 or 10/31.

I certainly hope the shaders can be overclocked significantly though, because I am guessing major core/memory overclocks will be suspect given the flimsy stock cooler. But I imagine a 100-200mhz shader OC shouldn't be a big deal. But damn, even 1700mhz shaders is 570 GFLOPs, that's 8800 Ultra output right there!

I wouldn't say the GT is a lot better, all the benchmarks point to the Fatal1ty being about 20-25% faster than a stock GTS. It should perform similar to a GT (I have the Fatal1ty but I'm returning it for a 512mb GT because of low memory size). And it would really only be about $50 more than the GT, unless you compare it with the 256mb GT, which is even worse from a memory standpoint than the GTS. Also the GTS has much greater pure horsepower so if you play less shader intensive games like big RPGs I imagine the GT would struggle even compared to a stock GTS. As for length, the GTS I believe is slightly shorter than the 7800-7900GTXs.

The Fatal1ty does have to big stock cooler which is pretty much inaudible on full 3D, my comp is very quiet with my harddrives being the loudest component, and I can't even hear the 8800GTS fan, some people might value that more. I fully expect the 8800GT stock cooler to be extremely loud and high pitched, but that's the tradeoff for a smaller cooler so I can get more space in my case for PCI slots.
