Hi i am on water both nb and cpu and all temps are well cool , was going to change mosfet coolers to thermalrights and nb to swiftech but looking at the temps it isnt really an issue , so it isnt worth upsetting the standard solution ,The board and chipsets are way cooler than both the P5K deluxe and Premium boards that i had .

Well, only way I can boot to windows is to press F8 at post and select HDD from that list, weird.
Seems like my board is not clocking so well with 4 sticks installed.
I could not get 8x475MHz to boot wit four sticks with same settings that I used with 2, or any settings
    I have to use 8x450MHz.

Thanks for the reply andyr. Good to know the temps run lower. Mabey the ROG got the stock cooling solution correct, for what this board will actually require?

I will start out on the stock Maximus SE cooling. I figure it will give me a chance to check the board out to see if I am having any heat issues, before I buy 4 more blocks and backplates.
Better to return too, if it was defective in any way.

What is kicking our butt's is this abomination statement in our Maximus manual:

"Install the optional fan only if you are using a passive cooler or a water cooler. Installing the optional fan with an active CPU cooler will interfere with the airflow and destabilize the system".

Due to me not having a passive water cooler, and having an active water cooler, I didn't want to destabilize the system......

They include in the box a small clear fan that just snapps in, blowing toward the CPU.

So actually we now have 2 questions.

    1) Do we install the fan if using active water cooling.

    2) Can a fan blowing toward the CPU destabilize the system, when using active water cooling?

Hi, Asus have always worded it this way with the optional fan that is supplied with any of their motherboards. What do you mean by active and passive wc? If it's the case that you mean your WC has a fan attached to the CPU water heatsink then it could be assumed that the additional fan would intefere with the airflow. If you mean that your WC is active by means that it is part of a wc system, ie water flows around through other components, then you would still require the additional fan. As Asus clearly make the distinction between passive, ie heatsink no fan or water, and water cooling I'd have thought it was quite clear.
You could try raising a technical query with Asus...

In my case i have water cooled the nb , cpu and used the additional fan clipped onto the fets and also used a blue orb stuck to the sb for good measure , but tbh these fets runs so cool i dont think you need additional fan at all ,i put it down to the" EPU " technology ,unlike the p5k premium thet gave you two additional fans you could fry eggs on.

Hi, thanks for the advice andyr(again ) As I've now got all my part for water cooling, I shall be rigging it up next week in half term and will try it without the optional fan and test me temps..

I was thinking it needed a water pump to be considered active cooling, but mabey they are talking about WC with fans?

This is a passive water cooler, the type I dont have:
    http://www.trustedreviews.com/periph...ater-Cooler/p1

I will have an active CPU cooler, in the form of a water block.

I believe what they ment to say was:
If you use a water block to cool the CPU, use the small clear fan.
If you use A CPU fan as your main cooling method, don't use our little fan too because it might suck the breath away from the big guy, and destabilize the system.

It is a done deal... Fan installed.

    this is for ddr2
ok so 450x8 = CPU SPEED
    and 1:1 = (fsb/1)x1 =450 and if you have ddr2 your at 900mhz ram

my setup as of now is at 333x9 with ram a 4:5 so
    (333/4)x5= 416.25
    and 415.25x2=832.5mhz ram.

similiar to what i have right now... so, if you wanted to keep the ram at approximately the same settings but up the cpu speed, what would you do?

I found out what was happening with the damn driver crashing when i watch videos...when i run my ram faster it seems than 1066 it seems to cause it...it might be certain dividers that do it but when i run my ram lower than that it seems to stop all crashing...lol damn finally found out what was happening anyway just thought i would let you all know just incase anyone else had the same problem
