yes loco its the old chestnut of getting the latest hardware straightaway you did as i and got the hd2900s straightaway and took 3 months to be able to overclock in crossfire so i think as time goes on the x38 will get better and better , whats the biggest improvement you have seen with x38 coming from p35 , 3d03 maybe , its looking good though i must admit i'm tempted to hammer the plastic , but i think ddr3 is my next move now

GPU scores nice. A single 2900XT OC use to do better in nature 2001 then crossfire @ stock for me with asus commado, on X38 i get better results with 2 cards at default speeds. Same settings/LOD:

    Commando single 870/999:

    I did it, I couldn't wait....

    Just ordered a CORSAIR XMS2 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit, a CORSAIR CMXAF1 ram cooler, and Q6600 GO stepping processor.

My Maximus will be alive soon!!

He is going to have to run an a 8600 GT until the next Big GPU!!

At least I can get my Raptillions raid'ed up...

Got some more advice, and it had more reviews on Newegg than the Kingston.

Playing the odds a bit I guess.

    I hope it wasen't a mistake....??

now the question is can we use a maximus bios for the extra options.

    Hmmm,

Just like the P5N-E32SLI and the Striker Xtreme...

But don't be fooled by using the same pcb, components might differ and the cheaper version will miss some caps for better voltage regulation, cleaner power or might even use better quality components.

Also, bios for the cheaper board will most likely lack some (critical) settings for fine tuning your overclock.

If there's no difference at all, nobody would buy the top of the line mobo soon as the word spread.

Asus ain't that dumb, are they?

The load line calibration does not functional on the maximus, future bios solved the problem.

Actually Vdroop for high voltage is 0,033volt and 0,018v for low voltage.

With Intel quad core you set in bios 1,25volt the phase providing 1,226v idle and 1,208v in full load, with 1,50volt the phase providing 1,470volt idle and 1,437 in full load.

I mean that the stock heatsink and fan that comes boxed with the retail versions of Intel processors (like my new Q6600 for example) does not fit on this board. The position of the power mosfets and caps around the CPU socket prevent any HSF which does not have at least 5mm clearance (roughly) above the copper base from resting on the socket properly.

What Asus have done is assumed that anyone using this board will be using a HSF that features heatpipes, or a watercooling solution. I'll take a picture tonight to explain better.

I say it won't affect many of us because I assume that most XS forumites are probably running more serious cooling solutions than the stock HSF. It just annoys me because I have everything I need to get my new rig up and running apart from a cooling solution. My watercooling gear might not arrive for days

After changes has been made and saved in the bios settings of Asus Commando motherboard the system shut down and reoperate again which may harm HDD. Is there anything like this in Asus Maximus Formula?

and is there any sata raid issue ?

I do not believe that be resolved.

In my case I have 1.440v Idle and 1.384v load, with quad.

    Difference of 0.056v, very bad.

thanks for the reply. that's the clarification i wanted. i'm also running WC'ing and have my gear but i wanted to use the stock cooler just to get it up and running before filling my loop and all that jaz... it would be really annoying to have to drain it after finding out something went wrong. then again i could probably just detach the block from the cpu. damn, i make everything harder then it has to be, lol.
