No one really knows about these yet, but they are supposed to help with stability, this board was released wayy too imature and needs a revision, also i heard this uses the old x38 chipset without the updates, thats why giga bye was the 1st out of the gate.

On top of that 1/2" thick sheet of armaflex was a layer of paper towel, and a seriously tightly squeezed CPU tube insulation.

Perhaps you should tell kingpin how to insulate too?

You used loads of bits as to one full sheet. Doesn't even look like you used any DC4 to get it to stick to the MOBO so it was air tight. Thats what you need, layers and layer around to be air tight

So what are you saying??....the board is flawed and has serious issues?...maybe it's bios related.

Read it, they suggested the heatpipe cooling is not adequate enough to cool the X38, i kinda felt this myself on seeing pics of the mobo...which i why i bought some copper ramsinks so i can beef up the cooling over the X38.

480FSB...it's hardly mind blowing, alot of P35 boards do 480, i think people kinda EXPECT 500+ FSB these days, especially as X38 is touted as an overclockers dream etc.

There is a version of the chipset wich had some issues, they were not too serious and gigabyte did not update this problem, thats why they were one of the first to release the boards so early, everyone else i believe has done the update.

Well I have this board, and I'm not seeing some crazy issue with it at all! I haven't gone crazy overclocking it, but have see no problems overclocking to FSB of 535 X 7= 3.7, or 510 X 8= 4.0. I have not tried any other bios other than the F3.

Maybe I'm not pushing it hard enough to have problems, but so far, seems to run fine! I will say that my P5K Premium seemed to run about the same, so I'm not really seeing some vast inprovement over the P-35 chip-set.

There has been no confirmation of this, but my board was getting BSOD's with stock settings, also didnt like 4x1gb of d9gmh.....stability was an issue for me.

GAR>>>> Well, hopefully it was an isolated issue, and RMAing your board, might bring you a good one! I never run four sticks of memory, and have had no memory issue at all using Ballistix's. Obviously, if I was getting BSOD at factory settings, mine would be going back too!

Good luck, and hopefully your next one will be a winner!!

And because they expect 500+ from day dot. Just like the majority of boards, X38 needs time to prove itself...

    @ GAR

Bluescreens are driver or hardware related.

What kind of bluescreens do you get, stop codes?

When running at stock please put in these memory timings manually: 4-4-4-12-3-3-6-42-3-6-Auto-2T. Vdimm should be 2.1V

    Is it more stable now?

For high memory clocks I use 4-4-4-12-3-3-6-42-3-7-Auto-2T or 5-5-5-15-3-3-6-42-3-7-Auto-2T.

I'm very satisfied with this board and don't have any issues with it.

Remember the X38 board is providing 1.8 volt from the factory settings, so in your bios in the "DDR2 Overvoltage Control" set it at .40 which will bring your total voltage 2.2.............

Good luck, and love those Ballistix's for sure!!
