    Same situation here.

    yeah maybe
if that was the case it would be good for sure...as most systems idle predominantly anyways

Pretty sure Nehalem is a Q3/4 product, not Q2 (unless AMD pulls something out of their a$$ to compete w/ Intel's existing lineup better).

These are tweaked 45nm Core 2. Nehalem is 45nm Core 3 so to say.

that's something along the lines of what I tried to say
maybe idle consumption is just LOWER than expected and total power consumption is normal.

    @ronaldor9
imo nehalem is more of a server product, featuring smt (a reintroduction of hyper threading that is), csi (aka quick path), an imc and allowing 8 core MCM, because it's a native QC.

QFT! Same thing I've been hearing what folks at Intel is saying. About this time Next Year for Nehalem.

Also keep in mind that as more software is optimized for just some of Penryn's new features the performance gap between it and Conroe will widen. If AMD got what they expected out of Barkie, we'd see Penryns right now, if not last month.

For that we should thank BOTH (AMD and Intel) companies!

eh... Intel's 4nm prices will be low but what about 65nm prices? I wonder about Intel is going to finish Allendale manufacture or not?

What do you guys guess, what will the lower clocked "celerons" be? 1066 bus and muly 6-9?

Any word on EIST? will it now go below 6 multy?
    Cause of higher FSB.

Hmm.... so where is my book of dream interpretations... aha!

Celerons will be single-core CPUs on 800MHz; clocks: from 2GHz to 2.6GHz; 1Mb Cache L2... No reason for putting Cels on 1066MHz bus.

Dreams also show me the lowest multy (during Speed Step) will be x6.

But remember: dreams are always so obscure!..

I don't know if I will be able to hold myself back from buying an E8400 x38 etc

Fantastic, I love these huge caches. FSB still needs more attention, just like it always has. 1600mhz fsb shouldnt be too much farther away.

Hmmm.... if they really make present Celies (aka single cores) on 800 bus and with 45nm tech they will use NO power (I measured 24W lower idle on celly 420 than on 6400)
BUT I doubt that they will... I thing single core is dieing and will not see 45nm (heres for dreams, 1066 bus and 45nm singles )

Then AMD will have a great opportunity to grab the whole low-end x86 market with cheap and mass single-K10-core Semprons (Spica, afaik) without Intel's serious competitors. Such CPUs are usually used with integrated graphics... so, AMD will be able to make big money on chipsets and integretad graphics as well. I can hardly believe Intel will let such development.

I don't think so. No matter how great Intel yields are, there will be failed cores recycled into Celerons or similar. Intel will NOT throw the good half of Dual Core in the Dumpster. Just as if some of the Cache is bad, then they'll recycle it as well. There's no reason why a Penryn Core 2 Solo wouldn't run at 1066 since many boards left 800MHz FSB in the dust.

It would be counter productive for Intel to stick a third core on the Package and sell a tri-core. They'll be able to sell 4 cheaper than AMD's 3 cores. Again, this is a recycled product. IMHO AMD is SMART to not waste a perfectly fine 3rd core. BUT, trying act as if it is not a recycled product and planned all alone is BS

It's not like Intel is the White Knight. Since they are ahead, they don't need to get in the Mud. If they were lagging behind though, their sleaze would rear its ugly head as well.
