Yes, the EVGA boards suck suck suck!![]()
<----- REST IN PEACE, KIT. 1993-2007.
yea the evga does suck or the whole reference design is flawed, no matter how great ur customer service is, there is no excuse for people like me changing out 4 boards in 6 months, simply no excuse. well its actually nice i just ordered a striker, going to pick it up now. watercooling the mosfets shuold help a little but shouldnt limit ur overclock, i have a tj-09 silverstone case, and the two fans on top, the one right above the cpu and mosfets blowing cold air in, i had the evga board and that board around the mosfet area was cool to touch while priming.

Thanks for the settings Linflas...I'll give them a try this weekend when I rebuild my rig. I'm adding a second loop to cool the NB/SB and MOSFETS.
Ive just ordered the Striker non extreme. Do you guys think it overclocks well too?
Whats the difference between striker and striker extreme?

i just got mine right now, i got it from mwave.com. i personally went and picked it up looks pretty spanking new, the box had no sign of even minor ware so i believe they recently got those in, i will try those settings and update,
by the way nugzo are u using the 1303 bios, i believe linflas is using the same one as well

alright installed the striker and booted on the first try, mine is 1.00g and mine is also with the built in bios chip. and made in china. came with the 1203 bios, does anyone know where i can get the 1303 bios=edit= found the bios, posting a screenshot, i applied linflas settings, but took it little easy on the couthbridge voltage and cpu vtt.
booted into windows fine, posting a screenshot. will test with prime now. ouch the vdrop is insane worse than the evga 680i, set to 1.4065 in bios and look at it in widows with cpu z screenshot.

Try this.
Intel Xeon 3520 | eVGA Classified E759, GTX-285 SSC Tri-SLI | Corsair Dominator GT 2000Mhz 7-8-7-20 | Auzentech X-Fi Prelude | Intel 160GB X25-MG2 x 2, WDC 1TB Green Storage | Watercool HK 3.0, GPU-X² GTX285, MO-RA 2 Pro | Mips Chipset Kühler | Dual Laing 18w DDC+ | Corsair HX1000 | murderMod TJ07 #007 | Dell 3008WFP | Windows 7 Ultimate x64 |
found the bios already, well i am priming right now, vdrop isnt tha bad, i think cpuz is just reading it wrong of the striker, pcprobe reports 1.34v under load, and 1.38idle, set to 1.40625 in bios, so vdrop is not all the bad after all, the computer would have froze by now if the vdrop was as bad as cpuz reported(1.265v underload). 10mins into priming so far so good.
cpu temps is about 8-10c lower than evga board. i guess clean power does mean something.

CPU-Z does not accurately report voltage. I doubt the droop is as bad as you think.ouch the vdrop is insane worse than the evga 680i, set to 1.4065 in bios and look at it in widows with cpu z screenshot.
i5 2500K @ 4.7ghz 1.32v(+.010 offset LLC set to 4) / ASRock P67 Extreme4 (B3) / 2x4gb Samsung Green MV-3V4G3D @ 1866mhz 1.35v / AMD HD 6850 1gb /2x150gb Velociraptor Raid 0 + 500gb WD Green / Corsair TX 750watt V2
actually the new cpuz 1.41 on the evga board reported right voltages, but i guess with the striker it has its issues.
drools drools looking good so far. if it goes thorough one loop of prime95 i will be the happiest man alive, lol. i stayed away from striker, i guess the new ones are overclocking well, and the word needs to go out to people. i believe they have fixed it in hardware somewhere too, unless the old strikers are clocking the same with the bios. mine also has the built in bios chip as i have mentioned before so i believe the new boards have been revised.
ofcourse asus is not going to come out and say oh we have fixed quad core overlocking otherwise they would have a lot of rma's like evga did. so they probably kept their mouth shut and silently fixed it.

nugzo u should change the thread name to the new striker q6600 overclocking thread or something, so it becomes dedicated, i dont believe there is one in this forum. AS5 seems to have settled in a little bit, right now the load temps are reported 45c on all cores. from 48c earlier.

aww man, i accidently restarted my computer, i was stupid trying to install the dominator memory cooling solution and shook the memory module and computer restarted, i know i know i am not suppose to do that, but cant help it. i was almost 2 hours in to prime95, o well gotta do it again i guess. thanks for this thread nugzo otherwise i would have never gotten a striker thinking that it doesnt work well with quads, and didnt want to take a chance,

I started out with the 1303. I'm trying the 1301 now. I installed the 1305 and thought i broke it. Wouldn't post. After following the CPU init instructions from asus forums, i got it back up. I wouldnt try the 1305, alot of people are having issues with it....fyi
Looks like 450 dinos.
Now is the perfect time then to up her to 3600![]()
I use everest 4.0 for voltage monitoring and temp monitoring. (vista 64)
Ok, time to try crysis at 3825mhz. bbs!

oh man i am so jealous, i am getting my 8800's tommorrow probably have to drive an hour to go pick them up, man i cant wait to play the demo of crysis, nugzo do u have the crysis beta, if u do what kind of performance are u getting with your setup, i know its still beta and the demo will probably be final code and a lot better performance.
and do u have the vdrop mod done on the striker, is it a pencil mod if u have done it.

Yeah i have the beta. Haven't had time to play it much yet. Played for about 10 minutes. Runs pretty good for beta. Looks good too. I did do the pencil mod. It works good. not as good as the EVGA but good. 1.55 bios 1.54 windows 1.54 load.
I just popped my E6850 in. 500fsb 8xmulti for 4000mhz. Booted to desktop first try. Testing stability now.

so the striker can do decent fsb's now?!
did this occur after a more recent bios update?
bring on the crysis screens, with some fraps, and post the resolution ur playing it at please, i will be looking to play this at 1920x1200. dont really care about AA on games that look beautiful,

i dont know if it was a bios update or a hardware fix, only ones that could answer that question is if someone here has had a striker since launch and now they can clock their quad core at high fsb with the recent bios, the only bios i have tried so far is 1303 and i wont change it unless needed.
