One of the members of the XS DC team has a supermicro that has 1 dead cpu socket last I heard, then there's also a large thread over on 2cpu about some supermicro x7 series 771 boards.. and tyans.

Barca being a vrm killer doesnt seem right to me considering power draw claims we've seen so far.

All along the watchtower the watchmen watch the eternal return.

Maybe I really should either check my messages more often or get a damn cel phone which has better reception . I missed a call from friend who spoke with an Asus FAE about Barcelona and compatibility with the L1N64 for me. Yes, Asus is already aware of the issue of only one cpu being recognized using bios 0506, but that bios is a beta bios and by no means was meant for public use. However, there IS a bios which is either nearly completed or is actually finalized which will be stable with quads on this board. I'm hoping to have it on Monday when the Asus guys return to work from the weekend. If that happens to fall through, one of our own here has put me in touch with the Asus L1N64 Project Manager in Taiwan. One way or another, I'm intent on finding a solution to running quads on this board.

On another note, I'm now even more skeptical that the Dave Graham's quads were at fault for killing his Tyan s3992 as I was just informed that AMD has been shipping some test setups to certain oems with Barcelonas installed in that exact mobo......

this is good news but see if the next bios will add memory timings that a $60 board has

it pains me to see macci get ddr 1200 with the amd board and i got mem that will do 700mhz and only can use 6 timings

So do they run, don't they run, what does the one CPU recognized in your L1N64 report for its speed, or is all you have to go on hearsay at this point?

Yeah, the L1N64 is not on the list of will not worky do not use or fizzzzt mobos.

The tyan boards go through revisions like all mobo companies products do. The R03 revision of the boards for the workstations have no issues and also the voltage probs are limited to B01 or lower. B02, BA and B04 have this problem fixed.

I understand that it would be nice to get the bios to run both cpu's, but waiting till monday is just too late since the nda expires then and there will be benches galore around the web. If you can't get them both in how about intalling 1 and running some benches?

Well, I have no idea what he claimed but if he said that he used bios 0506 and was only able to get 1 cpu to recognize, he either was running a different bios or a different revision mobo than I am. I just spent the last couple of hours trying different configs with the 0506 bios only to end up it the exact same place I started - no boot, no beeps, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING...the cpu's STILL are not recognized by the mobo. As soon as I hit the power button, my debug card reads "FF" - which indicates either a dead cpu or it's not able to make out the registers for the proc. Wow, that was fun ...anybody got any other great ideas?

That sucks, you would think that AMD and motherboard companies would have everything set up for you before they sent you the CPUs to test...

    I hope the works out...

Well let me help you out with that one SaFrOuT.

Don't do it!!!! All of this new Intel stuff is a complete waste of time, I mean the processors are very nice and fast but everything else fails and fails miserably!

I am working on my 7th Intel motherboard in a 4 month time frame and that pretty much constitutes

    2- 975 chipset boards
    2-680i chipset boards
    3- p35 chipset boards

Quite honestly what worth are the Processors iregardless of how fast they are
if the Platforms on which they reside are of low quality which have a very shaky, unreliable , questionable life expectancy?

    Absolutely none!!!!!

Now considering I ran my D.F.I Expert Opty 170 overclocked 24/7 for a year almost and it still runs just as well as day 1 and its sitting on the shelf waiting to get reinstated and without a doubt its just as fast as these new Intel deals unless you live by benching you do not even notice it i real world use!

Maybe you are a Intel chipset motherboard killer or you can handle your hardware careful enough.
