uncover the other one and plug your cpu2 in there.

You have to remove that black piece of plastic and put cpu2 in.
Normal cpu 1-2 are in to.

Damn, I was 100% sure the black cover was only for the other type of connectors, and that I'd toast the board if I plugged it in...

Neuron, which memory multiplier are you running? You did disable EIST, C1E state, and have good non-stock cooling on that chip right? You will need a good aftermarket cooler to go above 3.2Ghz typcially.

I did not touch my FSB voltage even at the below settings in my sig. I'm less sure but I know I don't need to touch the MCH voltage until at least above a 3.5GHz 501FSB overclock. RAM went as high as 1220MHz stable before I decided 2.35v was enough voltage. I may have hastened the RAM's demise with only 2.35v however, as it no longer seems to be stable but my old Corsair kit still is.

I'm running a 2.0 memory divider, and yes EIST,C1E etc are disabled.
The cpu itself is water cooled, and I've had both that and memory higher before, it's the motherboard that was limiting me. I dont have any permanent setup cooling for the motherboard right now, not really sure if I'll need it. It seems to stay fairly cool.

After some testing fsb +0.2 mch +0.1 seems to be able to keep the prime95 blend test running. Ram right now is running at 1.8v stock and 5-5-5-15, as increasing the volt for that did nothing. As soon as this prime95 blend has run for a while longer I'll start upping my memory to the speeds it should be at . And maybe even up the cpu a bit more, it's a X3210, so I can't up the multiplier, so I gotta up the fsb

I have p35-dq6 rev 1.0 i see in the site that exists the rev 1.x, and the bios f4 refer to 1.x,
1) is it a problem to put the f4 bios in the 1.0 rev??
2) how i can find bios updates for the 1.0 rev??

P.S. if i can update my 1.0 rev motherboard with f5c, f5h, f.... who refer to rev 1.x then no prob

1. Only Rev 1 exists , so F4 is a good choice for your board

For the P35-DQ6, GigaByte has posted the F5L BIOS on the site officially. No mention of speed changes or stability...only PS/2 keyboard enhancement.

As was said above Gigabyte has just released the F5L BIOS for several boards including the DQ6 on their website. The only issue with their download servers do not have the file yet... it should be fixed by tomorrow. @bios was not able to find the F5L release either.

im not sure what that is but its definately not vdimm
i measure 2.38 there and 2.18 on the socket

edit: here is vdimm measure
edit again: bios setting is very close to what i read on the socket wich is more than i can say for vcore

That is not the correct measuring point and if you are using that point to measure vdimm on the DQ6 you maybe endangering your ram.

The proper spot is actually the top of the mosfet left of the one that cougar has marked PCI-E. Mine shows +.05v above what ever is set in bios. The one you have marked is off by -.2v

Thought I'd try installing this bios and running prime before going to work today. Damn thing still wont run stable.

I can run prime for 3+ hours now, but at some point the computer will reboot without warning.

And I've had to run the fsb volt up to 0.2 to be able to run prime stable.. and when I changed it to 0.25 I could run prime for about another hour before a reboot. Really not sure what's going on here...

//edit, in everest my 12v shows as around 6.66v normally, but jumps between 4.8v and 6.72v, could it be it's reading the right value and treating it the wrong way? And my 12v is *2 of that?, cuz in that case it's unstable as hell. Anything around that can read all proper voltages for this board?

sounds strange, always use a dmm dont trust software

Yeah it's jumping around, but it's also about 5-6v away from what the 12v should be, so I was just thinking it's reading completely wrong values.

//edit, also, my "12v" is showing 2.62v on idle, so it's defenatly not my 12v it's measuring :P

Boot time to windows XP SP2. Clean install.

Intel AHCI enabled, Gigabyte Ports enabled, Time = 62 secs
Intel AHCI enabled, Gigabyte Ports disabled, Time = 50 secs
Intel AHCI disabled, Gigabyte Ports disabled, Time = 43 secs

Gigabyte screen has been disabled. But I still get more than a page full of PCI device listing before the winxp black screen. Is there more that I can disable to make it boot faster, or is my boot time normal?

When the Intel AHCI is enabled, the BIOS automatically checks all the ports each time, can something be done to make it not check all the ports since most of the time nothing new is being added?

The FSB voltage, what exactly does that heat up? Is it directly related to the motherboard temperature sensor? If so, how high can that go?

It seems to me my system will go longer and longer without reboots based on how high I have the fsb voltage, I've taken it up to 0.25 while testing now, but I'm starting to get a bit scary high, and I'd like to know I won't toast anything

For those that don't want to look back, I had this cpu + memory in another board before, 400mhz*8, 2.0 memory, low timings (can't remember exactly). If I run it on 400*8, 2.0 memory, 5-5-5-18, my system will fail prime95 blend (passes small tft'). When I increase FSB voltage it'll run longer, but seems to reboot after a while. I'm not 100% sure if the reboots are directly related to FSB voltage (as it takes 2-3 hours atleast to test each time), but I'm not sure how to find out either.

Prime95 blend will fail within 1-2 minutes with fsb voltage normal, with fsb voltage +0.2 the system will run for about 2 hours without any errors found, and then reboot without warning. Note that I have my cpu multipler at *6 while testing this.

i got no problems with my mushkin but i running them @ 2.35v
you should set your voltage to 2.1 thats your max for warranty

I found out what it was. If you set the system multiplier from SPD to whatever it SHOULD be for the memory speed you are using (i.e "3" for a ratio of 2:3 for 800Mhz memory) then the mobo won't have to do the Power up, power down, power up" sequence.

I am also using OPTION 1 under M.I.T. and the voltage options are all set by Auto.

this is all i can sqeeze outta this setup. my new sig rig. this new 6420 beat a 6600 at max stable ghz and fsb limit. doesn't matter cause the c2d line is changing anyway. i orthos tested overnight, not shown in this pic though
