Well where do I go from here then? I've had them both since January and I don't think NewEgg will give me a refund now will they? And Neither Asus or OCZ will give me a refund I don't think... just exchanges... so am I just SOL? What do you guys suggest?

Why not sell the RAM on-Bay. Sounds like the mainboard is fine. Selling memory on e-bay is allot easer than selling a motherboard. Also, Asus w/ the bios of the P5b has good future CPU compatibility. Most manufactures are making yo buy a new board for the new CPU support.

Nut some DDR2 off the QVC list.

installed the 1215 bios with the help op afudos 2.26.
I still get the annoying bootup problem with the MB starting, powering down, waiting 1 or 2 seconds to finally start up again.

Is this problem ever solved??

The bios utility in the P5B bios is a very easy and simple way to flash a bios.

Actually this 2gb kit of Gskill 1000mhz ddr2 ram is a lot better than the OCZ. Timings are 4 4 4 5 vs 5 5 5 15 for your OCZ.

Could only find (PC2 8500) for the crucial. I would personally take the Gskill over these as the Gskill will be faster with the tighter timings.

I heard that these chips bake themselves after being used at 2.2v (which is what they are rated for) for continuous use. And that if you were going to use this RAM use it for your gaming machine not your on 24/7 machine... any truth to this?

LOL I seriously doubt that seeing as they are rated for 2.2v to begin with so they should have no problem holding up to it. If anything get yourself a decent ram cooler, I have the corsair 3 fan ram cooler and it does an awesome job.

I have ran ram at 2.3vc in the past for long periods of time (to get ddr2 1000mhz speeds) when it was only rated at 800mhz with 2.1vc and mine has yet to ever fail me. Then again I have a ram cooler and it makes a big difference in the temps as my ram went from being mildly hot to the touch to feeling rather cool to the touch.



If anything you could always back the timings down to 5 5 5 15 like your OCZ ram and then you should be able to lower the VC a bit.

Has anyone ever seen the ASUS LED *blink* blue? Now, whenever I flick the switch on my PSU (but before pressing the power-on button), the LED blinks blue. The power-on button has no effect when this happens, so the system doesn't even boot. Anyone experience this?

I fixed my problem with the blinking ASUS LED! One of the front panel USB connectors was improperly connected... that was a scare.

you enable it from the Matrix storage manager, just right click your Volume and select enable write cache enable!

I enabled write-back cash, but still say its not enabled in windows and cannot be enabled...

This board is starting to freak me out

Also i read trough manual of this mobo and its says *--- up to 800MHz support for dual channel kit..---- and i was WTF!!!?

Cause i am about to buy OCZ 1150MHz DDR2 2x1GB kit, and dunno if it will even work now. Will it?

And since i am chief of servicing and RMA where mobo was bought.... i guess i have to send it away

And i told all this to the importer and they said since they have no boards to replace i can get money back... probably after decent period of waiting...

I am just plain tired of this mobo... who knows if it will ever work fine...

I just have 2 more things to try (disabling all usb, moving memory stick to 3rd slot and installing using original XP cd; and slipstreaming drivers), and if that doesnt work, its bye bye this mobo, and maybe ASUS as well.

This is starting to look more like gypsy voodoo then modern computer work -- disale all usb, move to 3rd slot,... well to hell with it, if it works i am buying my computer a robo pet as reward

I would not pay to much attention to newegg.com reviews. Unfortunately you have a lot of noobs out there who are usually the ones responsible for frying their own ram and then blaming it on the ram itself



I tell you what, if you are really concerned about it then why dont you just buy the exact same ram that I am running and since we are both running the same MOBO you know you will be in good shape

I can run it all the way to 950mhz 4 4 4 5 timings rock stable at 2.150vc. I am using this nifty little ram cooler to keep it cool and it does a heck of a job!

Yes, dont waste your money. OCZ and this board are not very compatible. The P5b deluxe board likes Gskill and crucial ram the most.

I read through those reviews and every single review RAVED about them... and more than half of those reviews said that they were able to get 4-4-4-12 out of them... with 2.1 voltage which sounds awesome to me... what do you think?

Dude you cannot go wrong with the ballistix, all in all its better quality ram than Gskill and should over clock really well. My last set of ram was the Crucial 10yr Anniversury ram and I think it was basically the same ram as the Ballistix with the micron d9's.

That crucial ram I had was rated for 667mhz 4 4 4 12 and I ran those bad boys at 1000mhz 4 4 4 5 with just 2.250vc.



As for your question about the board having problems with 1000mhz ram I really dont see why it should seeing as I have overclocked my ram plenty of times in the past up to 1000mhz.




EDIT-I just saw that the ballistix is only $79.99 after the mail in rebate!? dang man you would have to be crazy to go with anything else other than this ram! GOOD DECISION!

If I were you I would go for the 800mhz ram because it will only cost you half as much $$$ after the mail in rebate. Plus you should have no problem overclocking this ram. I am a little worried about the PC2 8500 ram mixed with the P5b deluxe, You would be better off with the PC2 6400mem instead. Just cancel and reorder if you need to.

i have recently installed this board after tried many before lol, i hadthe p5w dh deluxe which did not o/c very well for me,lets say at default settings it would tell me overclocking had failed,time for that board to go,

i also had the p5n -e sli which was pretty much the same,only let you o/c the ram or the cpu,never let you do both,and there was limits on how far you go with the ram and also had the same problem with this ,when it came to boot it would keep telling me o/c failed even after i had system running fine for 3 days without switching it off,

so now i have took the plunge and gone for the p5b deluxe which seems more versatile than the other 2 and works well with corsair and cellshock ram and also lets me o/c some,i also bought 1 of those xeon 3070 which i thought would run cooler than the conroes and o/c better - well it runs idle at 46 which surprised me as i had an e4300 which run at 29 idle 37 under load so not sure if i have a good batch,lol,

i have noticed 1 thing with this board which lets it down,any guesses its the sound,shockily bad and software that comes with it is just as bad,it there a good driver for this,any help would be much appreciated and where's the best place to download the intel chipset drivers - asus site is very slow

also hit another small problem when i boot up it always says cpu error - i have to press f1 everytime.i almost forgot video benchies are down significantly,on nfs most wanted it looks drab on full settings - in cpuz it says pci - e is x16 on both.thats a mystery-

other than that i like the board as it does let you o/c and i have had some good results but the xeon is a bit toasty,lol,
any hints or tips in the right direction is much appreciated

You see that huge CPU cooler in my rig shot I posted? Get that, its the Tuniq Tower 120 and its pretty much the best air cooler $$$ can buy.


It keeps my E6600@3.6ghz with 1.5vc at a idle temp of just 28c and loads under orthos with small fft's at just 54c.

Im not saying for sure that it will not work but unfortunately I do not know of anyone that has ever successfully ran that ram with the P5b deluxe therefore I cannot recommend it.

Dude just do the online chat option to cancel the order, its much much faster.
