But Vista´s device manager has exlamation mark on that NEC and it does not work.

The RED S-ata port 1 is for the S-ata boot HD only. The stated coinfiguration works fine on my MB rev1.04g with either BIOS 1707 or 2103.. I have a dual boot setup with Winxp pro and Vista x64 and the DVD works no problems. You are not running RAID and have SATA set to IDE in BIOS ?.

Have you checked the DVD out in another machine to check it is okay? Might be the cable - I suggest try with only boot drive and the DVD using the second hard drive cable as you know that works. .Unlikely but I would also try reflashing the BIOS if that doesn't work in case it is corrupt.

Hey! Should I have Intel Virtualization Technology enabled on the bios with my overclocked cpu? What is it for?

    Hi!
I have a thing thats been bugging me. I have a lot of HDDs and would like to use them without any RAID. So I'd like to use all the ports available

The problem is with those orange ports (ez-raid).
Only on port1 works for me. I'm thinking it has something to do with that EZ-Raid thing :/

I'd just like to have a confirmation if it is possible to have two HDD connected without RAID.

Maybe I just missed some option in BIOS/jumpers.

C2D Virtualization technology allows modeling the work of several virtual platforms on a single hardware system. As a rule u disabale this in the BIOS unless u are using it. Check first page of this thread.
I dont have a quad but see plenty of posts in this thread from people who are happily running them o/c on P5W . Do a search on this thread would be my suggestion.

You forgot the BIOS settings. We have a similar problem in that both of us are stuck between 360 or in that area. I can get to that, but it isn't stable.

Right now I can not even overclock more than 2,2GHz as this 2205 BIOS does not save vcore values and even disables the option whenever the chance arises. I am starting to become very tired of this now...but the board in general is really a good board.

After reading this post, I begin to wonder if our problems lie in the cooling on the north bridge. Maybe we're creating too much heat on it and it's throttling some how.

Just a thought, but as for the Bios Settings... I'm too lazy to type everything in, but here are some pics. I just made an album for them as it seems to be easier, and I don't take up space in this thread

    Enjoy!

have you done the MB cooling mod foir the NB/SB?
    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=106563
if not it is worth doing plus get a 40mm fan and stick it on the NB - it helps a lot. Also - here is a link to a useful O/C guide http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardw...ict197995.html

From the pics you have posted I would disable all Q fan control also memory remap unless you have 4GB. Set FSB - 1.3 or 1.4v ,MCH = 1.65 and maybe up the memory volts - I dont know what they are speced for. I couldn't see the vcore setting but follow the guide recommendation and see how you get on. Your PSU might be a bit light for this board - nearer 600w or above is what is recommended

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I'm thinking I can get a small fan from work, and probably use that. I also have a couple chipset coolers (TT Spirit II's). If i get some time, I'll try that.

as for the PSU... I wish I could figure out a way to test if it's the PSU with out buying a new one. I don't want to spend $150 just to realize it's something else, any suggestions? Maybe unplug all but 1 of the hdd's and one of my Optical drives??? Would that give me enough leeway to work some magic?

    Thanks,
    AE

Your PSU is fine. Don't spent more on it unless you are planning to add more componentes on you MB

Lawrywild installed the spirit !! on the NB - search for his post re clip connection and removing existing heatpipe. To remove existing NB,mofset and Southbridge heatsinks use a click type pen barrel rather than long nose plier to compress the heatsink pins. It fits just right to compress the pins enough to allow withdrawl without any damage. Someone else posted that when you have removed NB and Mofset you can heat it up and it will just seperate else just cut it near the mofset. I wouldnt bother replacing the SB with a spirit 11 - it doesnt get that hot and the spirit !! would propbably get in the way of Graphic cards e.g 8800's. I found I had to offset the 40mm fan on it to allow the card install. I am not saying your PSU is a problem just that a good clean and accurate delivery of required voltage is important when overclocking. I thought you stated a 480w PSU in a previous post but I see you have a 600w gamestream - that will be fine.

good to know. My south bridge hasn't really been showing any temp problems. It's been pretty constant around 35-40'C.

Another question, Do I have to do anything to cool the msofets if I change the NB?

Status update: Up to page 100/530 (I changed it so there would be 10 posts per page.... seems like i'm moving quick that way :p)

You can just cut the pipe and leave the stock mofset in place but the Thermalright HR-09 Mofset cooler http://www.frostytech.com/permalink.cfm?NewsID=57924 looks good to go if you want to replace the stock one . Here is the board compatability list http://www.thermalright.com/a_page/HR-09-MCL.htm#Q12. I would probably have done what you are going to do but I have a new toy in the form of an Asus P5K to run with an E6850 an 4x1GB ballistix 8500c5 . I have high hopes!

    No idea yet..

    EDIT:

Well, if P5WDG2 WS Professional supports Penryn, than the P5W DH definately has the ability to support it atleast..

    WD Raptor 150GB 16MB Cache

    My question is this,

My system is so new I am thinking of returning my Mobo for an ASUS P5K DELUXE/WIFI-AP P35. I know this may sound silly but I love the DH for the remote. I can shut down/hibernate the pc without having to open my case etc... I can OC my Q6600 to 3.4 Ghz 375 FSB and my memory is 756.8Mhz 1:1 according to CPUZ. I am really happy but I cannot seem to get to that 3.6Ghz 800Mhz 1:1 400FSB even if i use the 8x to drop it to 3.2 ghz 400 FSB is just not stable at all... I am just wondering if it is worth it to get the P35.. It is not that much money maybe $25 more. But will my current DH remote work with it? Any advise would be aprreciated.

Oh on another not I flashed my bios using the Asus Windows Update program. And you all know what happened. Well it erased my eprom and I was stuck with an inoperable board. I just made the switch from AMD and have always used Asus boards and I have never ever had this problem with a flash failing and erasing an eprom. Well another Motherboard later and a hotflash using AFUDOS and all is well. I wish I found this thread before I made that error.

Again any advise would be aprreciated. I have not had an Intel since my 3.05Ghz 478 533Mhz HT proc. It is all new to me again with OCing this. Should I expect more in Ocing a Q6600? Can I acheive 4Ghz stable? And finally will my little remote work with this P35 board.

    Thank you in advance.

Dont know about the remote - I never used it on the P5W but I have just swapped my P5W for a P5K deluxe as I couldn't get 4GB G.skill PQ running stable on the P5W at 3.6 1:1. Check this thread out for more detail on P5K http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=144199 I loved the P5W - it served me well but this board is so capable for running with higher FSB setting and memory compared with what I was getting on the P5W. Its not perfect but its very good!.The bios also has extended memory settings which have been missing from the P5W

Been runnign a Samsung 162 but it kept dissappearing in XP...and sometimes the board didnt even recognize it at booting(almost all BIOSes 1201-2004). So i switched it with an older IDE DVD-RW :-( BUt the SATA DVD-RW runs fine in my Sis' Computer so thats definitely a Asus/Board-Problem.

I am running my Sys on a 68board(1,85Vmch). My Pal is using 66board and is using the same SATA DVD-RW without any problems. Even with both our Drives his Board hasnt had any Problems...
