    That would make my day.

Yes, I was restraining. Being a mod here is a 2 edged sword.
One is also a forum member with many friends and also hates to interfere in any thread. It isn't a power game or ego trip but a desire to see peace and friendship prevail. Sounds a bit naive but it isn't.
I see this forum as a place to come and learn and share what we know as friends.
It's that simple to me and I try to be fair to everyone as long as they will listen to logic.

    OK, Back to Barcelona!
    Thank you too!

A New Giuseppe Amato interview here
    http://www.hwupgrade.com/articles/cp...ato_index.html

    This tidbit is interesting:
Giuseppe Amato: At the present moment our main customers have Opteron Barcelona CPU samples, which are begin used for the validation process and internal research for compatibility with existing systems. These processors are not available for the press at this moment, but they will be by the end of August. We prefer not to spread information on operating clock speeds and performance as of right now, but I will say that the early versions of Barcelona processors will reach 2 GHz.

He is the guy to listen... Giuseppe Amato give generally good informations
"Giuseppe Amato: That rumor is the result of a misinterpretation of an announcement that our CEO, Hector Ruiz, made. He was saying that AMD will leave the care of manufacturing and production to partner foundries only for parts that are not an intellectual property, IP. This does not imply that all AMD manufacturing will be decentralized. Only standard technology parts will be outsourced for manufacturing to our partner factories, which will result in an economic benefit for us."

I wonder if these will ramp with voltage or just squat like a fat duck with clock speed. Either way, can't wait till august.

Like AMD Fans did when the first Conroe tests showed up? Sorry MM, couldn't pass that one up.

Why? A lot of us think that it will be a very hard time for AMD. But we have no new informations for AMD, and all we think know was widly discussed, so let people dream...

Quote them after we will see it? Nobody say fake cause everybody had already seen Pentium M results. Stop trying rewriting history with something never exist.

It's just aswell I was only planning on getting the 2GHz K10 so hopefully by years end i'll hopefully have K10+RV670+RD790 & hopefully for a reasonable price.

I am wondering though as to when AMD will "bump up" the clocks for the QC parts, hopefully it won't take them too long to hit the 2.6GHz that their "simulations" used.

Trust me LOL, there were doubters and some of them are posing on this forum and in this thread.

For K10+RD790 you'll need Phenom, not Barcelona (different socket). Phenom should arrive in December @ < 2.0GHz.

but your roadmap seems false too...
Hardware Upgrade: Can you give us some clues about the release dates of AMD’s new generation of processors for servers and desktops?

Giuseppe Amato: As for Opteron solutions, we have already made public the release date which is in September. At that time we will launch the new processors of the Barcelona family. As for the Phenom processors for desktops, the first samples of Phenom FX CPUs will be available by the end of the year, while the remaining versions of the family will arrive by March 2008."

    @>2 ghz = greater than 2ghz
    @<2ghz = less than 2ghz

For a december timeframe, I'd be betting on 2-2.2ghz for servers with perhaps a bin higher for a desktop single socket fx - but I'd be pleasantly suprised if we do see 2.6-2.8ghz products retail.

If all we see are 2.0 ghz cores then other in apps that can take advantage of four cores the 3.0ghz athlon x2 will perform better than the phenom x4. As such I think AMD would be wise to hold off releasing a desktop chip until it offers a performance benefit over the current lineup - servers would generally benefit more from the additional cores and so a release even at 'slow' speeds would be welcome there as soon as possible.

But as you can get a 6000+ so cheap now, why would anyone upgrade to a 2.0ghz x4 unless it was similarly priced? And if your looking at a new build I can't say that am2 looks all that appealing...

I disagree. AMD will have great sales because there are folks who will buy their latest and greatest no matter how it performs. If there are lower numbers of these, slow sales will not matter anyway. AMD will be able to even place a price premium on them and they'll still sell well enough that holding them back would be a mistake.

However, AMD will need to work out the kinks and ramp them up to the point of just matching Intel and they'll do just fine. They might also start a reverse price war where they and Intel inch up prices. See RAM market for example?

Yea, although I am going to be interested in a Dual/Quad Barcelona server around the middle of next year. I just don't like half multi's, personal choice more than anything else.

RD790 does support S1207+ so they may use it for a server/workstation setup aswell, doubtful but a possibility.

The release of the first K10 CPUs, the Opteron 2300 line-up is closing in fast and although AMD has talked a lot about it they have been reluctant to show off too many K10 CPUs. This 'issue' has been 'fixed' by the guys at oc.com.tw who have posted a first quick photo shoot of two Agena (Phenom FX/X4) engineering samples. The pics can be contemplated just below.

LE: Thanks Red, the pins should have tiped me off . They must be Agena then?

Guys! Pictures above are showing not Barcelona but Phenom CPU!!
    Haven't you noticed pins!!

Besides picture form Anand is showing early Barcelona samples. No markings on heat spreader except 'AMD'. This mean they are for internal evaluation. Far from retail chips..
