    P5B Deluxe RAID 5 Installation Procedure w/JMicron

Does anyone have a pictoral or graphical example of how to hook-up sata II drives for raid 5 & JMicron. I just don't get it reading the manual. SATA connecting on the MOBO, SATA 1, 2, 5, 6 (red) SATA 3, 4 (black - slave) and
SATA-Raid. Do I connect the first SATA drive to the SATA-Raid, second SATA drive to the SATA-1, third SATA drive to SATA-2, fourth SATA drive to SATA-5 and fifth SATA drive to SATA-6 for a total of 5 SATA II drives configured for RAID 5 ??? Please help.

I don't think it does with the PB5. Look in the manual

I think there is a problem with this manual. You need to save it to you hard drive then open,

Asus has a manuals on their site also.

"SATA 1, 2, 5, 6 (red) SATA 3, 4 (black - slave)" are not is not the JMicron controller. It is the Intel ICH8R controller. The black they call "data ports".

You should install the Intel Matrix Storage Console. Read about that this program/driver. You can set it up from there.

I would not load the buggy JMicron drivers and just use it for IDE. Windows has some good default drivers for it

On the P65 (particularly Asus P5B Deluxe), if all four all slots are filled, and they are different sizes, the BIOS will map the lowest stick and use the same amount of the larger sticks as Dual channel operation. Whatever amount is remained will be used as single channel. There is a page on the manual that talks about such. To minimize any problem, though, make sure all the sticks use or can use the same timing. The manual suggests this as well.

When you boot up, you can create a raid with any drives you want connected to the Intel ports. I think you hit

I & Ctrl It tells you during boot.

thanks guys - the manual confuses me somewhat

Manual is about as useful as a fish ...

    I quote

"You may install varying memory sizes in Channel A and Channel B. The system maps the total size of the lower-sized channel for the dual-channel configuration. Any excess memory from the higher-sized channel is then mapped for single-channel operation."

    BUT Channel A and Channel B - but where Channel A = A1 + A2 (Yellow +Black) and Channel B = B1 + B2 (Yellow + Black)

???? I genuinely can't then work out what the manual manes ... what are these channels the manual talks about ?

now if it means you can put different memory sizes total in Channel A and B - well then the rest of the text is not relevant - as Channel A + B will be the same - each will be 1.5 gig ...

but if it means different memory sizes within Channel A and B - then only 1 gig (total - 2x512) -will be in dual channel mode ?

After a night of testing, I managed to o/c my PC to 475 1:1 at these settings:

    Code:
    cpu multiplier: 7

    timings: 5-5-5-15-5 35 5-11-7-13

    cpu voltage: 1.55
ram voltage: 2.35 (required for hyperx 9600)
    fsb termination voltage: 1.45
    nb voltage: 1.65
    sb voltage: 1.7
    ich voltage: 1.02
If I go any higher, to 500 or 490, the PC POSTs but vista crashes. Upping cpu voltages (up to 1.65) allows for reaching the login page but the PC hangs at that point.

Could this be due to an underpowered PSU? I'm trying to find out if I should upgrade my 500w Liberty.

If you ask me you have a good ATX 2.2 PS. Maybe you are just pushing things past there limits. You sound like you think something is wrong. Every system has a Max OC at different setting. The trick is to find it.

i really don't think you need 1.7vsb, and hopefully not 1.65vmch either. i wouldn't trust that board to last more than a couple of months at that vmch

edit: you have an e6700.. because of the nature of the p5b, you'd get better performance if you used the max stable multiplier at 400fsb. I'm guessing 9x400=3600 you can probably get stable.

    hello, XS

i've been having trouble getting my components (in signature) above 400FSB 24/7 stable. i'm not experienced at all so i don't know exactly what settings do what even though i've read a number of guides and posts, but i have a general idea.

i don't really know what a realistic 24/7 goal is for these components so if someone could give me a ballpark for that it would be helpful.

what are the max voltages (vcore, vmch, vfsb, etc.) you would run 24/7?

    thanks in advance

if there's any other info i could give you to help you help me, i'd be happy to provide.

    Hi all,

I've test my Small FTTS CPU Stress Test using Orthos and it goes 8+ using 460x7 with voltage of 1.320, DRAM 2.25, NB 1.45, FSB 1.300, SB 1.50, ICH 1.057. When I test using Blend (CPU and Ram), it fails at 1 min and 57 seconds so there is something wrong with my ram with timings of 4-4-3-4-35-3-11-7-13. I have a Kingston Hyper-X PC28500.

By the way, I am currently running 475x7 with the same settings as I stated above except Vcore @ 1.370 and FSB to 1.400 for sure stable 8+ hour (I will test it tonight) but the orthos blend isn't working with my ram. I am guessing its my timings are wrong or memory voltage (currently 2.25)? I've tried 4-4-4-4. Back to the 460x7, I've tried 4-4-4-8 and test it and it only went 2 minute stable (Orthos). It really frustrates me failing in Blend Test and sometimes my game would crash and having to x it out. Would anyone give me the right timings for 475x7 please? My timing been stable in games with 460x7. Also, my PECI is at 110.

Also i cant overclock with last bios, but it was no problem with 0804, is there any way to revert back to older bios? if so, how?

    Hey Elisha,

It still won't work, I've tried 4-4-4-12 and used Orthos Blend and it failed at 11 seconds. And also, my keyboard lights and mouse goes off when playing game in random time twice, what does that mean? memory corruption? By the way, I've used Small FTTS CPU Test and it did fine at 9+ hour stable Orthos Test.

Try lowering ram votage a little to see if it helps and then do a few passes of Memtest to find out if it is your ram or someting else.

Test out your temps with intel TAT that is the most accurate one have found because it actually uses the processors built in thermal diode,

Gingernut, my ram voltage now at 2.25 and I'll try 2.15 and then which memtest are you referring to? Memtest +86? I try to download that but you have to pay for that one?

mukmaster, I've test 1 CPU at a time and my temperature in load for CPU0 was 58C in and CPU1 was 56C, don't seem like any problem with the temps. Idle was 47C.

Hi, can you or anyone else explain this too me? I am asking because I have a P5b deluxe paired up with an E6600 and I am running the following-

450mhz fsb with an 8X multi for 3.6ghz
    Ram is at 1:1 ratio so its 900mhz 4 4 4 5 timings.

Now Im not a noob at overclocking by any means but I was pretty sure that performance would be slightly better for me with those settings rather than running a lower FSB and MEM 9X400mhz multiplier? No?

Isnt a higher FSB and Mem speed the way to go?
(as long as maintaining tight mem timings)
