Cool, I gave it a run at both 400mhz fsb and 450mhz fsb.
Here are the results and can you please tell me which is better? I assume the lower number Access Latency?
450mhz FSBX8
Access latency 66.9 ns (271 clocks)
Read datarate (INT) 6463 Mb/s
Write datarate (INT) 2553 Mb/s
Read datarate (MMX) 7031 Mb/s
Write datarate (MMX) 2563 Mb/s
Read datarate (SSE) 7196 Mb/s
Write datarate (SSE) 8069 Mb/s
400mhz FSBX9
Access latency 58.9 ns (212 clocks)
Read datarate (INT) 6580 Mb/s
Write datarate (INT) 3092 Mb/s
Read datarate (MMX) 7216 Mb/s
Write datarate (MMX) 3102 Mb/s
Read datarate (SSE) 7104 Mb/s
Write datarate (SSE) 7136 Mb/s
I mostly game so if you think its worth my while to lower my FSB down to 400mhz with a 9X I will![]()
BTW most linux CDs (ubuntu included) have it built into the boot menu.

I made the mistake of loading the ASUS Ai Suite. It changes the APCI driver that I believe does not function fully in VISTA. Even Though, It is a Vista version. I un-installed it and it will not fully un-install. I attempted a restore point. But any thing with that installation or before gives me a Blue screen. Than I need to schedule a an error checking on that drive to clean up the mess.
Dam ASUS, I don't like the Vista support on this board. The sound driver does not even have a left and right speaker control. I looked at the P5B Vista version and they have the same poor sound driver. I just want my MS APCI driver back and get the ASUS APCI Center out of my task manager.
I have Vista 64 and it runs great. I did have the hard drive slowdowns or un responsiveness with the Vista 32 Bit. But, since I went with 64 bit my raid 0 speed is fantastic. It is very stable OS. As long as you don't use all the ASUS drivers and utilities.
The only reason I use the ASUS sound driver is for the SoundMax mic. It did not work with the MS sound driver that had many more features.
I uninstalled the ASUS Ai Suite w/ ASUS ACPI. But look, it is still there!

you not going to try 400fsb 4:5 eh?
look at your results. better latency at 400fsb. better bandwidth at 400fsb except for sse optimized, where read is slightly worse and write a fair bit
edit: you can also play with the static read feature. it helps a little bit as well, but can possibly be tricky to get stable.
That said, here's my p5b at 400 1:1 4-4-4-8-4-20-2-9-4-10 static read faster:
Access latency 56.6 ns (181 clocks)
Read datarate (INT) 6838 Mb/s
Write datarate (INT) 2935 Mb/s
Read datarate (MMX) 7323 Mb/s
Write datarate (MMX) 2936 Mb/s
Read datarate (SSE) 7564 Mb/s
Write datarate (SSE) 7271 Mb/s
and 400 4:5 500 4-4-4-4-4-25-3-9-4-10
Access latency 48.7 ns (156 clocks)
Read datarate (INT) 7440 Mb/s
Write datarate (INT) 3141 Mb/s
Read datarate (MMX) 8194 Mb/s
Write datarate (MMX) 3140 Mb/s

iam fixing to return this board tommrow. I love the layout and pcb design. but will be waiting for a revision if i ever get one down the road.
from the get go i had problems, SATA in IDE and even ACHI not seeing drives correctly, when it would BSOD with all connected. i connected one drive to port one in IDE mode and was able to install windows, do some overclocking. but whenever i connect others in IDE, they just disappear. in ACHI all drives are present, but will BSOD while trying to load the drivers off the floppy.
memory picky, but fixed that.. it sees all 4gb of my gskill fine now, but only in 2t at 667mhz. relaxed timings aswell across the board..weird. 1T is a no go on these chips.
lastly, a very odd quibble with pcie freq, when i would power down after any bios changes, the pcie freq would jump from 100mhz, to 150mhz! even though i repeatldtly set it at 101.
thought i would share that last one, i nearlymyself when i saw that setting in the bios. I hope my card is ok=[
seems fine..i caught it in time i think.
shes goin back tommrow, dont have time for this/
~
@Strangelife, where do you set memory timing to 1T? AFAIK, the P965 only supports memory in 2T timing, or at least for the P5B Deluxe anyway. Sorry that you have so many problems with your board. Get a new P5K series board to play with if you return the p5B.

401 and beyond on p5b leaves much to be desired, at least in terms of the mbench synthetic. take for example this run at 500 1:1 4-4-4-4-25-3-9-4-10 (compare it to the 400 4:5 500 one)

eh it sort of is, sort of isn't. 4:5 is definitely harder on the northbridge for p965. mbench for sure is just a synthetic, and realworld isn't that represented. I mean, there's not much difference between 1:1 and 4:5, although you'd probably see a little improvement in superpi, but then again, what's that mean in relation to anything real, I suppose.
But numbers still mean something. 4:5 shouldn't be any worse than 1:1. Any problems with running async with the upscalar should be compensated by the better latency/bandwidth.
I'd say, give it a go and see if you notice any difference.

Thanks for the info, I will just stay at 1:1 ratio because since I mainly game with this PC I doubt I would see the difference.
Also I don't really want to push the NB any harder than necessary.
I actually just gave up the crappy unstable Nvidia chipsets and ditched SLI in order to come back to a nice rock solid stable platform. You really cant beat this board unless you go for the PK35.
So nobody still has the pci-e 1x problem while overclocking that Asus hasn't solved at least in my case.
I also have a reset switch problem where if I press it I just get a blank screen, at stock it's fine.
Solid as a rock ????

I am familiar with that issue. I used to have that problem but I think that the latest bios resolved that issue? someone correct me if I am wrong.
Either way even before the new bios I was able to correct that problem by manually setting my SB vc to 1.5 and my NB vc to 1.45.
In the latest 1101 bios and 1201 beta the problem is still there, for me at least.
I can also correct the problem by raising the pci-e frequency to 110MHz haven't tried manually setting SB & NB vc. But the point is that it's a problem that's been around a while and Asus haven't seemed to beable to solve.
Do you have the reset switch problem or is it just me.

The PCI-E 1x problem fix.
Set bios to optimum defaults. Re-boot. You will have 16X. Reboot again and go in you bios and setup up your custom setting.

Dang it, I am still pissed off, my Blend Orthos still failing at under 30 seconds in different voltages. I've set it at 1.500 Vcore with memory voltage at 2.25, FSB 1.400, NB 1.45, SB 1.5, and ICH 1.057. I don't know what the heck its holding me back this Blend CPU and Ram Test. Sometimes my keyboard light and mouse goes off and game would freeze, I have to go into windows or sometimes the keyboard light turns off. I even tried memory voltage at 2.3 and test it, it only went 18 seconds. I've test it at Default FSB (266x7) and it runs fine over 2 mins with voltages at 1.2. I am wondering if its my FSB too high for my memory since its at 475. It is really frustrating me.
