    Why won't you die AGP!?
"To exist in this vast universe for a speck of time is the great gift of life. Our tiny sliver of time is our gift of life. It is our only life. The universe will go on, indifferent to our brief existence, but while we are here we touch not just part of that vastness, but also the lives around us. Life is the gift each of us has been given. Each life is our own and no one else's. It is precious beyond all counting. It is the greatest value we have. Cherish it for what it truly is."

    AGP since when?
    Place your bets here.

I bet that AGP won't die before 2012.

It might not die, but putting together a 8800GTX with a single core or something would be a waste of money. If you have some to waste, it's your wallet, the sky is the limit ;-)

It would make sense if AGP cards were cheaper. But they aren't; just like Athlon XP is more expensive than Celeron D.

Are we all forgetting the workstations still using Dual core AMD opterons on AGP mobos ??

Some companies weren't as hasty to leave their prior platforms with no dual core compatibility

I'm gonna get it from Dil now :p

Yes, here in brazil, we have about 70% TAX in products comming outside of Brazil. It means technology is extremelly expensive here and people doesnt care about performance.Im very lucky because i got relatives in usa and they bring me some stuff from there.

but why would those AGP workstation machines need new cards?
they are about the CPu power not about the grafix power.

alot of the people that will buy these cards will b the people that cant count.
i know people that stil got a decent AGP machine. They since PCI-e came out bought 2 new AGP cards wich were terribly overpriced compaired to equal PCI-e cards.
they could have upgraded their motherboards to PCI-e and would have even saved money.
1 of them could have a while ago sold his CPu, mobo, ram and GPu and bought a equal AM2 setup and would have money left (overhere 2nd hand prices on DDR are higher then new prices of DDR2).

A CPU bottleneck is usually only holding back max fps on low resolutions and
settings; a better cpu will get just a few % better scores on high resolutions.
Since only a few games make use of DC or QC, it doesn't matter much.
Also, these are not 8800GTX-level cards.
Right now, I'm happy with my A-XP2400+ and 6800GS AGP, games run fine with
good settings, I can even play Oblivion @ High with HDR and still decent fps.
Given how much the current Dx10 midrange sucks (128 bit? ), I'm only
upgrading when decent 2nd gen Dx10 cards come out at good prices.

where there's money there's ppl to make them.. i wonder how many ppl will actually get these cards.. they may be the only dx10 cards for agp but making them is not encouraging the move to pcie completely imo

Low budget cards for AGP is good, but high-end for AGP is useless.

Agreed, work computer has a high end AGP workstation card in it. Man what a pain since I'd have a better card if I'd have a PCI-E compatible mobo oh well.

On topic, if one does decently I might suggest the AGP one for a friend that wants to upgrade his 9600XT card in the system. Doesn't need to be super powerful but if the price is right, why not.
