Radeon HD 2900 XTX pushed to Q3

    Radeon late edition saga continues

R600XTX, the 1024 MB GDDR 4 card, has been pushed to the next quarter. This is just one in a series of ATI's failures, but of course DAAMIT will call this a strategic decision. R600XTX won't see the face of retail / etail stores till Q3 2007.

We know that something went wrong with the samples and that the there were some severe performance problems with the latest batch of GDDR 4 cards. Basically 512 MB DDR3 version with 1600 MHz memory was beating the GDDR4 version with 1024 MB of GDDR 4 memory clocked at 2200 MHz.

That cannot be good as the GDDR4 card is much more expensive to build or sell. The worst part is that there is no any big performance difference between 512 GDDR 3 card and 1024 MB GDDR. The trouble is that 1 GB of GDDR 4 at 2200 MHz costs you a lot of money, so ATI at least wants to save some money. It will launch this card after Geforce 8800 Ultra but remember, don’t expect too much.

AMD R600 to be available in May

The sources pointed out that AMD will skip the 80nm process
and make the R600 at 65nm. The R610 and R630, which will also adopt
a 65nm process, will also be released in June, the sources added.

I'm not surprised. I was really wanting the XTX too, I hate buyers remorse from not getting the best off the bat. Will I wait till July-September for it however? Not sure. If the XT is more or less faster than a GTX, even if only slightly I will probably opt for that due to sooner availability and a decent price. The 512mb of ram part bothers me though, would have liked more especially if they are giving the option for 24x AA. The extra memory would definitely come in handy. If the XTX will be guaranteed to be better I may wait and save the difference in money over the wait period and get the best off the bat. My X1900XTX is still going pretty strong for over a year now so an X2900XTX should last me at least the same.

Geez, Nvidia just gets more time in the market to themselves. Strategic? hahah. Was the X850 strategic? Was the 5950 or the 5800? We aren't that dumb ATI.

    R650 to fight G90
    Written by Fuad Abazovic
    Tuesday, 24 April 2007 07:18

ATI's 65 nanometre part codenamed R650 is here to fight Nvidia next generation chip called G90. Nvidia will shrink its G90 and plans to make the same marchitecture faster and this is exactly what ATI plans to do.

At 65 nanometre ATI can go much faster and it will solve the thermal dissipation and power problems. G80 is a very strong and effective marchitecture and at higher clock will be a tough competition.

R650 as far as we know will just be faster version of R600 chip without any major marchitectural changes. Both of these chips are expected by the end of the year, sometimes in Q4 but don’t be so naïve and trust ATI on its deadline. It traditionally messed up the launch date of every chip in the last eighteen months.
Worth waiting for R650 in Q4 2007???? Or is this an ATI version of Q4 (In other words in Q2/3 of 2008)

I am I the only one sceptical of Fudzilla as a reliable source?
In short, both AMD and NVIDIA discovered that their next-generation graphics cards are superior to each others' last-generation graphics cards.

I'm sick of details and delays, always getting pushed as if ATi is a pregnant women and AMD shouts: PUSSHHH!, and their secrecy is ridiculous, as if this cards are a secret project from Zone 51 (or 52 since is moved), build by green people (get it GREEN) and since those aliens are light years away from our planet we can't wait for a long time.

I see what I see, and you see what you see. I can't make you see what I see, but I can tell you what I see is not what you see. Truth is, we see what we want to see, and what we want to see is what those around us see. And what we don't see is... well, conspiracies.

??? Why are all you people surprised?

We've known for some time that the whole reason the HD2900XT is coming out, is because ATI will wait to see what the Ultra will do in terms of performance...

You gentlemen surprise me at times 0_o

Ya know with all of this crap going on no wonder why AMD is in trouble,
I am starting to think that maybe it wasn't such a great idea they bought ATI as all they seem to be doing is dragging them into the dirt!
I am sorry but I can tell everyone right off the bat they need to fire all of the people codeing drivers first and foremost, if it were my company I would sh@t can the lot of them!

This is not hard to believe given the fact that R600 was supposed to be out by Febuary wether it be fact or fiction I still don't see a card and I doubt it will be here in May given the recent track record of excuses,

    Strategic planning my Ass!!!!!

I'm surprised because we've heard nothing but the fact that ATi wants to release a complete line up based on the new chip.... now we're getting the end of the stick cause they can't get their flagship up and running..
Now you can try and explain that...
