symphy is talking about the qx,
I guess it isn't fixed yet!! And i'm not sure it can get fixed with a bios revision. (hope i'm proved wrong)
Only 2 out of 4 cores get upwards multied... the other 2 stay at 10x...
That's the reason i got the asus p5n32 e sli plus which does it strait out of the box, @2/3 the price.

I may be wrong. I was looking at HIPRO's post #842..

EDIT: After looking around your right, it looks like the best mobo for a QX is a 965 board.

I think it may take more than just a BIOS update according to this article:

    680i Kentsfield Quad Core Fix

It appears as though all 680i's are affected hardware wise.

Have a look at the "Other Motherboards" page and see the second photo.
    It's a pic of the Abit IN9.

Anyone have a micro-mini soldering iron?

Oh No!!!!!!! Here we go again. Abit forum is down.

Guys from what I have gathered the Quad core multiplier control is a BIOS only problem and yes abit are working on it - in fact they are working on it for CeBIT

The mod above is not to do with the multiplier issue:

About two weeks ago, EVGA announced that their NVIDIA 680i SLI Motherboards have gone into the Revision A1 state, an updated revision with improved overclocking for the Quad Core Kentsfield Users.
This mod improves FSB scaling only.

Hey Johnny Bravo, your screenies from post #903, were they Orthos stable, or just 32M SuperPI?

I have been all over the place once again today, and I can only run my GSkill PC2-8000s at stock 500FSB below 3500Mhz. Anything above 3500Mhz and I have to start reducing my fsb.....Is this maybe a cpu limitation or mobo or chipset?

I can run 445fsb 1:1 @ 4004Mhz Orthos 13Hr+ stable, so I've hit my Mhz goal, but want to get my ram up to stock specs of 500 4-4-4-5 at this speed. Is it possible?

Should I mess with the straps? Plz explain.

    What do you think? Anyone?

So what happens when you increase the ability to reach a higher FSB?
    You OC the CPU right?
So you're saying the mod won't help improve the OC'g of a Kentsfield?

No I'm not arguing there - what I am saying is that mod will not solve the multiplier issue

Dunno mate never tested it - was trying something else in that shot but I'm sure it would cope, tho the cpu temps were prob a little too high reaching the limits of the ApogeeGT there

What did you set your vcore in bios to get that? I've had mine up to 1.5725 so far and small FFT's fail right away. I haven't touched any of the other voltages yet and my memory is rock solid at 1k 4,4,4,12 2.2v in unlinked mode.

PS: Theres a guy on the abit forums running into the same sort of issue with kingston pc9600. Have you tried unlinked? Because I don't have that problem with my Patriot.

PS#2: I'll give 445 fsb a shot with the memory at 800 and see if it is an issue for me.

My vcore in bios is 1.6125 for 4050Mhz stable. Small FFTs and Blend are fine for over 12hrs. My mem voltage I found out can run 2.1v at 450 4-4-4-5 linked. I think it might be the voltages somehow, i will test more and report back.

    RE: FlyBoyGeo

    Thanks for the info.

I was testing at 445 fsb x 9 this morning and it started passing small FFt's at 1.6125 vcore but then started running into reboots now. I wonder if my PC Power & Cooling 600 isn't up to this LOL. PWM is showing 100 amps average.

I have a chiller running on mine and have the water set at 7c. At 4k and 1.1625 vcore the load temps are about 40c LOL. Idle is 10c so thats a 30c jump. I'm thinking of trying a pelt on this.

Yeah its weird, 10 mins ago, after a clear of cmos/bios, I was able to get into windows at 4050mhz and 500fsb unlinked (first time), but it froze up about 5 seconds into loading Abit guru. Ever since then not been able to do it again after 18 attempts, with various voltages changes. I dropped the memory down to 990 thinking it would be ok, but it crashed, that was unlinked.

Seems unlinked for me causes crashs, BSODs, and unstable Orthos. Linked I am fine up to 445*9 rock stable Orthos, memtest, SuperPI and 3 hrs of gaming last night.

Well finally I was able to get into windows at 500fsb unlinked @ 4050Mhz, but the only way for me to do this after some extreme tinkering with the settings was to use AUTO for everything in my memory settings. When I then selected the memory speed under unlinked to 1000, it would boot up 4-4-4-5 as stock specs. I was able to run SuperPI, with only slightly (.100) faster results than linked/synced 445fsb*9. Tried several voltages but still memtest and Orthos unstable using any unlinked settings...

I wonder if its my memory, I'd like to try some different stuff to see if thats the problem, however dont have any other ddr2 sticks...

    Hows the progress everyone?

Nice job! I am using stock heatpipe with 80mm fan over NB. To cool the cpu, stock Mach II.

    Is your cpu Orthos stable?

    Hi

i'm using a stock heatpipe with a 80mm fan over NB to

I have not tested the cpu in orthos, but i will give it a run this weekend

    I run my cpu at 1.55v 3.8Ghz for 24/7

At 3950Mhz with 1.5750v-1.6v my temps are to high for 24/7 use

but with better cooling i i might be able to join the 4GHz club

It appears that your cpu-z shows what your memory speed is, and the everest shows what your fsb speed is. Both appear correct!

    Help!!!!

Alright, after all the tragedy Ive been through lately, my IN9 MAX has arrived to replace dead evga board. I put everything back together, all seems fine, except one teeny tiny problem... WINDOW REFUSES TO LOAD!!!!!! I booted from my disk, opting to do a clean install, so after it formatted, and installed windows, it went to the windows loading screen, and just locks up there. I restart try again, same thing. Now i can even boot from the disk... WHAT IS THE GOD DAMN PROBLEM?!?!?!?!?!?!? Is my HDD Screwy or something? If so im a freakin mouse click away from ordering a raptor (never had any trouble with the old one in my old rig..) and possibly vista. Somebody PLEASE PM me... Im at my wits end with this god damn computer!!!
So if anyone has had weird issues like this with this board PLEASE help me!!!

Are you using a USB keyboard? Could be that the the board is set to run the keyboard in 'bios' rather than 'OS' as there is a known bug with this setting. If you have a USB keyboard, make sure u set it to 'OS'. Also, with your memory, make sure its getting enough voltage... the corsair dominator needs more than 1.8v stock doesnt it? If its anything like my cellshock the board defaults to 1.8v despite the fact that its stock voltage is 2.1v.
