Goods: new bios items, "current memory settings, memory fbs".
Bads: F6 i hit 400mhz "boot wall", F7b lot's troble to get even 390mhz to work. New problems was, when changing some settings(eg enabling raid) and booting, i got blank screen and then nothing happens. Shutdown&boot -> system reset at 266mhz

i would love get ridoff that "automatic resetting system".

I really haven't had issues other than running a bit hot at 1.35v in orthos (about 62C avg). This thing overclocks like a champ. I may end up changing to a dif cooler at some point.

yeah I'm digging it and it's about 5 deg cooler than my Asus. Im using water cooling though. 3.6 Ghz @ ~42 load.

The DS4 looks more like a stripped down version of the DQ6, but both with 2 x16 (1 x4 electrical) PCI-E slots. The DS3 only has one x16 PCI-E slot and is on a smaller board. It might be better to wait for the 2nd rev for the DS3, the DS3P.

Ya I see you're chilly...I just tear my stuff up so regularly that I think the water would get in the way and take too much time...I have to admit I have been tempted tho.

DS4 F7e no boot at 470... 450 boot up but hang after i play around with it...
now running at all default lol! !@#$%

edit: suspect ddr2 error ( continous long beep )
i had no problem booting with this setting with F7b

Observations:
1. New features: HPET, actual timings shown in BIOS(finally, thx for that)
2. I'm ONLY on 400MHz FSB so i can't tell any difference there.
3. Memory latency has increased from 70ns->73ns with the same memory timings (using newest Sandra Ultimate)
4. no problems so far...

I have a question about HPET, is it a new feature you added(enabled on board) or it's just a new options in BIOS that allows us to disable it?

btw. Is there a way to flash DQ6 BIOS to a DS4 board?

In a test that compared the performance of the HPET to that of the PM clock, a function that called the usermode QueryPerformanceCounter() API 1000 times was executed and timed. To ensure the results were comparable, the test was run multiple times on a single system. A similar test was run using the kernel mode KeQueryPerformanceCounter() API on the same hardware to identify the kernel mode benefits of the new timer. This data shows that reading the timestamp from the HPET is more efficient and faster than with legacy timers. However, because of the fine level of resolution needed for measurement, the actual performance benefits of the HPET and their implications on applications are impossible to quantify.

That is not what i asked...
I know what is HPET and how does it work. I wanted to know, if it was enabled in chipset even in older BIOS revisions. We know they added options to disable/enable it (in F7E) but we don't know if that feature(not options) was enabled BEFORE the F7E.

Any way of getting E6600 to use x9 multi when TM is enabled? Seems mine just always stays at x6 regardless of temps.

I have also flashed my DS4 to F7e, but Im moving from F5c since all newer BIOSes have failed to provide the same overclocks. Seems far more stable than F7b was, although needs still more Vcore for that stability than F5c did. Overall seems ok but overclocks down a few Mhz.

EDIT - Further testing shows F7e nowhere near as clockable as F5c - especially not with "system voltage optimised". Max on F5c is around 435FSB, whereas F7e struggles to keep 400 stable. (This is with an E6600 and 2GB of Geil Ultra PC-6400 RAM).

Gigabyte DS4 here, still problems with usb devices connected when booting when overclocking... (with F7e).

I thought the DS-4 would do the same as the DS-3, when it comes to the compatibility with the D9 sticks from ebay. Yesterday I found out that this was not the case. These sticks wont boot with various SPD's (they booted at a Biostar with no problem). I think there's no solution to this problem ?

If someone from Gigabyte is reading this forum I would like to tell them that they should mind the compatibility problems (i.e. X-Fi, USB devices when booting) as well as the overclocking capability of the board. The board being able to WORK actually with most hardware is really important too

Set your PCI-Express bus to 100mhz then you wont have issues with the x-fi.

I didn't have issues with the X-Fi in all F7 betas. However I do haves issues (ie the computer reboots) if i leave my usb keyboard/mouse plugged on while booting (MS Bluetooth Mouse/Keyboard). If i plug it on directly after the memory testing (i.e. when you see at POST eg "Memory runs at dual channel interleaved" ) then no problem... This only happens on gigabyte boards and only when overclocking, so plz Gigabyte solve this problem

Just thought I'd say the F8i bios sort of fixed the DS3 D9 issue. My D9s run decently but I still hit a wall around DDR2-1000 w/ 5-5-5-18 timings and 2.3 volts. You have to run the memory very loose, I was able to do DDR2-1000 4-4-4-18 on a P5B dlx with 2.3 volts. Otherwise f8i makes the DS3/e6400 stable to ~4.2GHz on phase cooling and 1.6 volts in bios. It isn't stellar but it is an improvement over the previous limit of ~3.8GHz. Great board for FSB < 450, past 450 it gets dicey.
