Optimized in what way? The point I'm trying to make is that in SuperPi, the P5W DH will always win because it has better latencies at high FSB. If you run 32M, the difference will become even more apparent. There are already a couple of threads here that confirm that. Now, that doesn't mean you can't be happy with the Gigabyte board. The 965 chipset seems to have very good 3D performance. But SuperPi is not the best benchmark to showcase the Gigabyte boards or the 965 chipset.

For me the Gigabyte DS3 seems the best buy until the RD600 is out .

With a Conroe E6300 , the DS3 beats the ASUS P5WDH in all benchmarks , only lost in Superpi >> http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=108077

aparently DS3 its also good with Conroe 4mb cache ( around 460/470 FSB 100% stable stock cooler) , very good results for a board with this price

    regards

I'm not sure that's really accurate. The average person probably uses his or her computer mainly to get email and shop.

I keep reminding people that this place is called "XtremeSystems". Benchmarking and extreme overclocking are what made this forum what it is today. It's only in the past year or so that benchmarking has become a dirty word, mainly among newer members. Also remember that many people have more than one computer. One may be used for daily tasks and the other(s) for overclocking or folding or whatever.

Call me crazy, but with locked cpu multipliers the DS3 is going to let you get higher max clock. That should offset the latency benefit, especially with E6300 and E6400 chips

Really? This is my P5W DH. Air cooling.

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v38/ds7510/4112.jpg

BTW, 9 is the default multiplier for the E6600. When I see 500X9, I'll become a believer.

Nice, but as I said more so for a 6300/6400, for your averrage users
Need to see what the same chip is capable of on both platforms

Allendales are nice chips for the money. But they're not Conroe. If you want over 4GHz, get Conroe.

and get P5WDH ,DS3 is amazing for FSB but can`t handle 4ghz for benching

So if you went to phase cooling do you think the P5W-DH has got more head room, or would the DS3 be a better bet? I say that coz I'm looking to upgrade when parts are available in Oz.

The P5W DH has plenty of headroom, especially if it is modded. A few people have gone over 500 FSB with modded boards. I try to tell people that if they can afford it, get a chip with a higher multiplier. 400X10 or 444X9 is a lot easier than 500X8. Allendales will likely be the FSB kings. But if maximum CPU speed is your main priority, get Conroe.

    P5WDH is better for clock

Gigabyte just needs a new bios to run safely @ 3500mhz+

    DS3
    Cons
    its hard to boot @ 390 x 9(air cooled P5WDH does 425 x 9)
    no 4/3 dividers

    Pros
    the voltage droop is minimum
good to oc with low multiplier
    cheap

So people are praising the DS3 because it can reach high fsb, at which it sucks anyways. Great..!
