    Measured a few things,

I think is the ovp mod:

The resistance between those two is exactly the same as the resistance between pin 10-11, 3,50kOhms.

interesting, when are you going to try it?

The little black guy under the corner is the resistor to be removed.
This resistor has to be replaced by a 5k6 resistor.

so soldering a 5k between the two points and leaving the existing resister will not work? i already have a 5k resistor soldered between those points and am waiting for a response before i power it up. i really don't like the idea of removing a resister from the board.

When you leave the black resistor in position, you have set the current limit down instead of up.
5k//3k5 gives you a combined resistance of 2.0Kohm, lowering the current 2.0/3.5 = 0.6 of the original current.
The 3.5 Kohm resistor must definitely be taken away.

well, i guess i will remove this 5k. so i would need to remove the 3.5k and replace with the 5k. just not sure i can remove it without damaging the solder pads.

what would the 5k raise the ocp to?

I see no reason why you can't get the 7900GTX clock speed with some trial and error once the current limit is increased.
Try to unsolder the 3.5Kohm carefully.
I am sorry I do not have a 7900GT yet, else I would have done it myself.
The 7900GT is not available in Holland at the moment.

Cronic, how did you do the Vmodding and what voltage have you set on the GPU.

Of course you will also have to raise the Vgpu to 7800GTX level

Yes ofcourse, but tht is not wht seems to be limiting peeps overclks

Its probably been mentioned, but can somone just confirm this for me, are the PCB for both cards identical, maybe the power regulation is different?

    followed the instructions here:
    http://www.vr-zone.com.sg/?i=3330&s=2

and it works but the ocp kicks in at 1.295v

i will have to have the 3.5k removed by someone with the correct equipment. should be able top do it at the university.

    That's exactly what I thought.
I do not want to be a wiseguy, but I have serious concerns about this Vmod.
Looking at the picture, it seems that this point goes to pin 7.
If this is the case, this is not a stable solution because pin 7 is fluctuating causing the output voltage to start fluctuating if you connect a resistor to this point.
Only pin 3 should be used to adjust the output voltage and is exactly meant for this purpose by the chip supplier.

ok is there a pointon the pcb other than on the 32 pin vr that connects to pin #3

with the vmod from vr i am running at 620 on the gpu at 1.285v and it is completly stable for hours in battlefield 2 and 3dmark05 and 06

I have indicated in red the point that seems to go to pin 3.
Use a multimeter to check this.
If you are lucky, the point left to this point is ground.

The PCB's are very different, just look at vr-zone.com to see the pics. This is the reason a bios voltmod is not possible, as i expected before anyone even tried my bios.

    Here's mine...

Stock Cooling and BIOS. Its an XFX 7900GT 520/1500.
Got it up to 590/1740. No artifacts or anything. Might be able to get more with some better cooling. Stock heatsink is small. :P
    Using 84.21 drivers.

Cronic, I had a closer look at the picture that you made of U502, and I could see that the Vmod point that you are using is connected to pin 6 and not to pin 7.

Although not as good pin 3, it is far better as pin 7 as it appeared to me on previous pictures.
You can stay with the 50Kohm VR that you have now, instead of the 100Kohm that I suggested out of cautiousness, and simply switch the right end from point 6 to point 3.

Once the 3.5Kohm resistor has been removed, please measure if it still has a value of 3.5 Kohm.
Since you have measured this resistor value in circuit, it could have been shunted by some other (chip internal) resistance, giving you a false reading.
Whatever the value of this resistor is, the new resistor taking its place should be minimal 50% higher in value.

Passing 562MHz on the core I get artifacts but only at 2D !! Isn't that stange ?

Note that I'm only OC'ing 3D performance with Powerstrip.

    What can it be ?

thanxs for tht information Alexio, it looks like alot of people are having fun with their 7900GT's. I am quite pessimistic tht there will be a workable solution in enabling the GT cores to clock like GTX cores. I really hope tht i am wrong

Could you tell me what the default 3D vCore is for the GPU of the GTX and GT, and what their 2D voltages are? Im assuming tht the 7900's work like their ATI equivalents when it comes to 2D and 3D clocks.
