I started from informal's post with Nehalem core being 60% larger than a K10.5 one. What has this to do with "extra die space to add a second thread" ?
I'm not comparing companies, I'm comparing design philosophies, few large cores or more smaller ones. Each with its own merits.
And the point you're missing is that from a production POV, they ended up with the same die size and different performance.
What you explained "perfectly" ( I assume it is the cache part ), has no logic whatsoever at a first glance. I know they have different densities, but I asked you to expand what you understand through "vastly different".
