So, I've played around a bit with my GTX480
The block is old / small and cost all of 10$ ages ago.. The shroud over the ram is made from plastic and is just there to act as a heat shield. So theres no need to cool anything apart from the CAPs at the end. I kept the fan there and its running at ~20%.
The IHS is higher than the plastic so you can use a bigger block.

50C I had other runs with different AA levels, but theres a bottleneck somewhere with current drivers for its a few C cooler Same system with a GTX 280 EK full cover gave 55C..
