That's an excellent idea for the traps with the metal triggers.
This is the kind I was using. These have worked in the past without any bait since the trigger is bait scented. But I never did active surveillance on their activities so I may have only been catching 1 out of every 5 or 10. I also assumed that the poison was working when in fact the bait bars were just a free buffet as far as the mice were concerned. They will chow down on the bait before even thinking about peanut butter in a trap. They just jumped over the spring traps and avoided the glue traps.
But on the plus side, there was no mouse sign on the video from last night. Me, the gf and one of the cats again watched the whole 12 hours. We were a little disappointed though. It would have been nice to at least see a waterbug or something. The camera I'm using is an old handycam I got in 1992 I think. At the time, the resolution was better than broadcast tv, but when you look at it now, it looks like a cheap pr0no. (I won't even comment on what in my twisted mind makes me associate killing mice with pr0n![]()

Anyway, I'm feeling confident that I plugged the access hole. It's still possible for them to get in from the garage since the door doesn't always settle properly when closing - need to replace one of the springs and door is at least 200lbs.
I'm going to get a couple electrocution traps and I'm going to put out a few traps with the cotton peanut butter bait. It should help keep it moist so I can go a couple months before refreshing it. I think I'll also grind up some tranquilizers into the PB. It won't kill them but it will make them sloppy so they won't be leaping or jumping anywhere very fast.![]()
