I have spend a couple hours trying to make the bclk setting in ET6 not work again. Went through the bios enabling settings and disabling setting but it still works.
There is a setting called "BCLK/DMI/PEG Clock Control" that allows you to raise bclk in the bios. If I disable in bios, boot into windows and change bclk in ET6, the bclk control will still works, then when I go back into the bios this setting has been enabled by ET6. I was wondering if you have this enabled? If not ET6 may not be enabling it for you in the bios, so it does nothing.![]()

Thanks! Dino did a clean test install last night, and it didn't work for him then either! So it must be something we need to install, or it's just random possibly?
So what are you saying with the above, did you ever get it to fail to work again? I am pretty sure I've tried with that enabled (to use 1002) and with it disabled while I was doing "Default" BIOS testing.
I know it has to be enabled of course to change Bclk from BIOS, and ya I'd expect it to be enabled from windows via easytune if you change the Bclk, so I think that might be expected result. Same with enabling Multi change in OS from easytune.

I was not able to get it to fail again. I cant find a bios setting or combination of settings to make it fail.
Ok, thanks! Ya, I tried a ton of enable/disable too without any luck.
Since Dino now has a clean setup failing, I think it's either random or something we need to install in the OS that we just aren't aware of yet.

Is there any reason to leave turbo mode enabled when overclocking via the multipleir?

Nope you don't need to unless you want to increase TDP and TDC, but i think the UD7 has no problem with this, like the UD4 does. It seems most people have to enable TDp and TDc and raise it to 200-300 to get higher OCes with the UD4.
also for your OC 1.6v with LLC1 or even 2 should be tried for the heck of it, i have seen 5.7 on this board.
hey so i just tried and I can change BLCk in windows with ET6. I have everything loaded to optimized defaults with blck control disabled, and I am able to change blck through windows. I am trying different combos like cpu pll overvoltage enabled and ratio os change and turbo and votlage and everything.
I have teh same action, blck control will be disabled on boot up, then when i change blck through ET6 it enabled it upon reboot.
i also found another wierd thing, when i set 107.7blck you can watch CPU-Z slowly change blck in increments and then it froze at 105.9, 107.7 blck was stable on my other chip with BIOS F6E, this BIOS is a no go for my better chip and BLCK, max is lower than 107. i believe that BLCK is tied into chip as well as board.
TEvery time you change blck in BIOS the system hard resets itself, i thought that the blck since was fed through the PCH the PCH had to be reset to change blck, i guess this is not true, you can indeed change blck through windows. CPU-Z version 1.56.2(i know 1.56.3 is out) BIOS F7E, and ETS B10.102.1. i am going to try the latest version of easytune.
Latest easytune off GB website works as well.

I might give 1.60v a go with LLC2, but do you get BIOS checksum error after messing around too much? Yesterday when trying different overclocks i got that BIOS checksum error various times causing the computer to reboot maybe 10 times before it fixed its self and it reverted back to F3 bios.

jack- yes that error re-flashed to older BIOS? you can try the atl+F11 or F12 to flash the backup BIOS to a BIOS you like. Stasio said that they have the trip point for BIOS back flash set too low, it happened to me more times that I can count early on, but recently with newer BIOSes doesn't seem to happen that often but it does. Don't worry about it, that is what the backup BIOS is for. But it is an indicator that the OC isn't stable. I found that F3, F5, F6X, and F6E were most stable from most to least stable, the others weren't very stable, I am still testing the newest BIOS.
By that you mean F3 was the most stable?
I'm currently running F7E which seems to be ok. I really want to push 5.6Ghz with HT on, but i have a feeling i'm not pushing enough Vcore through the chip. I haven't gone over 1.555 with LLC Level 2 yet. I've also noticed that i've had to bump the QPI/VTT up 0.020v with my ram which is now running at 1866 9-9-9-24 1T to pass LinX without errors.
At the moment i'm running:
2600K - 4.5Ghz
Ram - 1866 9-9-9-24 1T
Vcore - 1.275v
QPI/VTT - 1.080v
CPU PLL - 1.70v
VDimm - 1.58v
I ran Prim95 small FFTs and LinX with 70% ram utilization at the same time and it ran solidly for over an hour. I've also had it that way for over a day now. So i think this is a nice 24/7 overclock.
But now i need to get more out of the chip. Currently i have booted at 5.6Ghz, but i BSOD when i enter windows. I thnk i might push it up to 1.60v with LLC level 2.

I can't seem to crack 5.5Ghz. 5.6 just doesn't work out. I'll leave it be for a while and see how other people go and wait for a more stable BIOS before i try again.

I have found that if you cut the power to the PSU within the first 2 restarts of a loop you can prevent it from reverting the bios. I am usually able to get to the settings screen if you catch it early on in the loop. I am using F7E and so far it is the best bios for me and the most stable.
What has been killing me with my chip is getting from 4.4 to 4.5Ghz. It seems that it takes a voltage increase from 1.272 to 1.344 to get it even running prime. Its weird cause I can get to 5Ghz with around 1.36ish if I recall correctly. I have to use LLC level 2 when getting to the 5Ghz mark. I am not sure what settings to use for LLC though. When I set my bios to 1.305 and use LLC1 boot with 45 multi voltage drops on any stress test the comp locks.
Any suggestions on what to do with CPU PLL voltages and the power saving features is there some that can be useful for day to day ?

Ok looks like two clear bug reports.
1) LLC level 2 is NOT working on UD5--NO POST; LLC level 1 is actually level 2 (overvolt by 0.04). And guys please remember its 0.04 NOT 0.4...0.4 would be something like 1.3 to 1.7v...(a lot of people making that mistake; I would hate for someone to make this mistake in the BIOS and fry a chip).
2) LLC level 1 is NOT working on UD7 (runs, but vdroop is only reduced by 0.01 compared to "standard/auto", but LLC level 2 is (0.04 overvolt).
@aver, I use 1.30v bios and LLC1 for 4500mhz, idle vcore with LLC1 drops to 1.296, under load-1.272, which seems normal to me. My X58A UD7 has about the same amount of droop using LLC1. The load vcore seems to be what matters. If the chip is stable at 1.272 load, I adjust the vcore until I get the same load vcore weather Im using Standard, LLC1 or LLC2.

Getting some weird issues with either this board or the ram I'm using (8GB Patriot Xtreme 2000Mhz)
I have the same batch as a few people around her L040B307. Seems to be a quite decent batch.
Settings
Trying to boot in at (100x50) 5Ghz @ 1.4V with LLC @ LVL1, VTT set to 1.1V, Ram set to 1.64V
I've set ram to auto timings. Set to 1866Mhz by default after activating XMP.
Turbo off, PLL Over voltage enabled and all power saving features off.
------------------------------------------------
Most times it will just freeze at the Windows Logo on Login, but sometimes it gets into Windows. I tried to install afterburner and I got a BSOD with Error 124.
Looking at those settings, they seem to be pretty conservative for this batch.
I've seem many other use much less volts for the same batch to get higher speeds.
I can't really understand whether it's just the board being temperamental or if it's my ram or both.
I know this chip and board can do well over 5Ghz just need some guidance haha.

Erm, overclockers here are already reselling their week 51 chips (L051) in SG after trying them out.
