Thanks for the suggestions, but I just played with it for awhile and I think I have worked out the issue. I'm pretty sure it is the vFSB:vNB ratio. I am using a low vFSB (1.12v) and if I set the vNB above 1.25v, it wont reboot properly. I have it set at 1.23v now, and it seems to be working ok. I have rebooted, gone into bios, saved changes (although I didn't change anything), rebooted etc a few times in a row, and every time it reboots, but as soon as I push the vNB over 1.25v, no go.

Strange, but I have read about the need to have vFSB and vNB set close together, so perhaps these boards are sensitive to it?

I have read that also but your settings of 1.12:1.23 isn't as close as I have read they should be and it's working. I think the NB voltage is very sensitve on the P45's though. I played around with a P5Q Deluxe and anything below 1.22 or above 1.3 would cause it to act up.

    BTW I have my vFSB @ 1.24 and vNB @ 1.28.

Yes, I thought the gap was larger than suggested, I am obviously at the biggest allowable difference between the vFSB/vNB at my current setting. I'm a little apprehensive to run my vFSB out of spec (1.15v is intel's recommended max) as I'd like to keep this cpu for work purposes and until I get a second cpu to play with and abuse, I want to keep the voltages safe.

On my P5Q-Deluxe, I was running 1.11v vFSB: 1.26v vNB and it was fine, although <1.20v and > 1.32v caused issues for me. I think the P45's are very sensitive.

On another note, my cpu fan control is not working, I'm on 0604 bios. Is this something that is rectified in the 1307 bios?

EDIT - one more thing - is the ROG light on the NB heatsink and the XFi card supposed to stay lit when the pc is off but has power to the mainboard?

    Hello,
Just need to confirm that the Mushkin 2x2GB works well with this board. I've tried dominators 4x1GB and 2x2GB and they do not work well. Please let me know before I pull the trigger on newegg. The product is found here.

    Hi guys,
Sorry I searched this thread for a link to that ISO but wasn't able to find it. Would you mind pointing me to that please? Mine came openbox from Newegg without anything at all. thanks.

    Thanks.
I have the XP2-8500 2x2GB kit, it works very well, I am sure they will work
I also run Domintors on this board and have zero issues with them, perhaps your dimms are bad?
I find the Dominators the best kit for the board personally.

You wont find any link for the MIIF DVD, its 2.25GBs
I made an image and let him DL from my FTP.

Thanks for your timely reply. I will take your advice and order the Mushkin. As for the DVD Iso, I asked because after installing the drivers I downloaded from Asus' website, I still have one unknown device on the computer, so I wanted to see what was on the DVD that I didn't get from the site. In any event, rightclicking shows the device's location to be "on Intel(R) ICH10R LPC Interface Controller - " which seems to imply that the southbridge chip may not have been installed. But I do show ICH10 Family 2 and 4 port serial ATA storage controllers installed. Any idea?

On my old A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo if you did a clean install of the os and did not insert the mobo disk the unkown divice would show in device manager.
Pop the disk in for a few seconds and it would be gone.
So I can only assume its the same issue, if you cannot get a disk from Asus or the egg, lmk and I'll give you FTP ax to grab it from.

I'm confused, when you scroll down they show either dual x16 bandwidth or 3 x8 bandwidth, is this true or am I just misunderstanding something?

I can see it now, MIIF Extreme w/ crosslink $350!!!!

I could try selecting the strap manually but I doubt that will change anything.
I don't know if you have this issue resolved or not but the only issues I've had while trying to get high FSB w/ this board was due to a combination of PL and Clock Twister for a given NBv.
The board would act weird if I had set PL to 8 while I had Clock Twister set to Strong w/ a NBv of 1.28 or less. Once I dropped the Clock Twister down to moderate all the weirdness disappeared.

thats what cross link dose u can disable a slot to gain bandwidth so u can reconfigure the slots in the bios, its nothing new

Yeah, I know what crosslink does but I guess I am a little confused as to why Asus didn't release this with their flagship P45 and slightly surprised to see it come from Foxconn first.

The LED to the ROG is turn on by default in the BIOS, you can turn of the LED if you wish.

Cheers I figured out how to turn it off, it' s much better without it.

So does anyone have any issues with their CPU Fan Speed Control? Mine doesn't work at all, the fan stays at the same speed regardless of what I choose.

Also BIOS 1307 seems to have lower memory performance than 0604 at exactly the same settings. I lost 50 - 70 MB/s in read/copy when I upgraded.

    Here's my 24/7 settings:

Lower voltages on the P45 chipset to hit higher FSB, and cooler running. However, the performance you get on the X38 may be better / similar to the M2F.

How do your benchmarks compare to ones you have seen of the M2F?

so, im new to the whole intel scene (last one i owned was a pentium... yes just a pentium lol 75mhz ftw!) and im running 450FSB with 400 strap @ 1199 Dram Speed. ive got the e8400 and 2x1GB dominator kit rev 1.2. it seems like anything over 1200 dram speed causes my system to hang (even after tweaking the fsb to get 1220 dram speed) i have vdimm set at 2.2 (i think 2.19xxx real). but even after adjusting to as close as the stock speeds i can get while keeping 450fsb ive noticed that any timings below the stock 5-5-5-18 cause the system to hang on startup. the lcd poster hangs at DET DRAM when i use 4-4-4-12 for example. but a restart and resetting the sticks back to stock timings fixes the issue. this is my 1st set of micron chips (im assuming their microns) my old ddr2-800 5-5-5-18 set (not dominators, just DHX set) ran like champs at 600mhz 4-4-4-12, am i expecting too much out of these chips and more what im trying to figure out is what do intel's like, tighter clocks or higher speeds?

since this is the maximus II formula thread i think ill mention that the zalman 9500A is a pain to say the least to get onto this board, i finally managed to do it though using a east/west socket retention orientation and running the clip through the heatsink along with the way the fan blows. i had to modify the 775 clip (part #8 i believe) by cutting down the lip that curls under with my dremel so it would actually clear the heatpipe coming up on the right side of the socket. and i also had to turn it around backwards (make sure to do this if your going to put one on there) so that it wouldn't hit the fan (i found out the hard way and had to take it off and reseat it.)

Rampage is a better board I dont own it but I would say from what I have seen form the rampage, the Maximus II is a better board.

45nm chips will benifit from this board, my Q9550 runs higher FSB at much lowr volts.
The board runs much cooler than the X38, ram requires less volts for same speed, I would recommend this board to anyone.

most ppl can bench a high fsb with board....means not to much.
anything above 450FSB and GTL's will need to be dialed in correctly or your never going to get it stable.
Correct GTL's and PLL is your friend on this board.

My Corsair Dominators 2x1GBs do 1225MHz at 5-5-5-15 all day long mine are version 1.1

DET DRAM is a PL issue, to low of a PL for your strap and you get DET DRAM.
Raise your PL and it will go away, 4-4-4-12 will not play well on high FSB Corsair ram will not like it much.
My suggeestion is to run 333 strap and set ram at 1080MHZ 5-5-5-15 PL 8 , I think you'll find your DET DRAM will be gone.

Hey. I am new to the Intel chip set my self. I have run Nvidia chip sets only since my old P3 800 system. But I found my move to Intel P45 the best one I ever done. I have OCZ Flex ddr2-1200, linked 1:1 running with 560 fsb. I have found more gain with a higher fsb than clock speed of my ram. I have never had any luck with ram running over manufactures specs. Best of luck with yours.
