weird - i set up an asus 780i board last week and didnt see ANY reference to SLI in the bios.

"On Gigabyte X48, the R680 had no problem running through all tests. But the 9800 GX2 could only pass 3DMark06 on the very same board. Running any other games would results in errors, or worse, BSoD. Since we know from the previous test that SLI needs to be enabled for maximum performance, yet Intel chipset based boards do not support SLI, we might be looking at a compatibility issue here.

It was then the GeForce 9800GX2 moved to the Striker II Formula platform, where it managed to perform all tests. On the other hand, the 3870 X2 maintained its stability on both platforms. The guys who brought us the first GeForce 9800GX2 has followed up with a review of the GeForce 9800GTX. And guess what? It's slightly faster than a slightly lower clocked GeForce 8800GTS. Unfortunately, the review only holds NVIDIA cards; GeForce 9800GTX vs. 8800 Ultra, 8800GTX and 8800GTS. 30" res is where you 'need' that 3870x2 or gx2...... i reckon.

g80 or g92 cards will come very close to 3870x2 , imo, at yr normal res of 1280x1024 16x12 and 19x12....or so the review charts indicate to me....8800gt ftw for shear value power!!
3870x2 is king ...for now.

512BIT BUS width is... not necessary.
First of all, we already have fast GDDR4 ( and GDDR5 ) RAM that can give us more than the "required" bandwidth combined with a 384BIT BUS.
It also costs a lot in transistor count.
384BIT and faster RAM = cheaper, efficient, and easier to manufacture.

BZ et al. are right about the bus width; 2900 series proved that much. Though I would like to see more RAM on this card. 768 seems about right for today's games on 'high-res'.
