I think the downgradability has to do with the date codes, i too tired to flash to the original bios, to no avvail... But, it seems if there is a "small" date difference in the bios, then it is allowed.... Heavin forbid the end user is able to "do as they wish" with the product they have purchased.....

    i try 602 , so far :

    Q6600
    425x8
    4Gb Gskill 8000 PQ
    vNB = 1.45v
    Vdim = 1.90v

1 hour playing Cod4 multiplayer , no problems at all

the only thing i dont like in all other bios than 0107 , its i cant user 4:5 divider , like 400 FSB and Ram @ DDR1000Mhz (only with Bios 0107)

all other things are OK with 0602

Fella's PLEASE take the time to get familiar with the tool (Asus Update tool that is ).

I have NEVER had a problem reverting back to an older BIOS regardless of the version, 601 -> 501 for example. There is an OPTION in ASUS UPDATE that will allow you revert back to an older BIOS. I'm not at my PC at the moment, otherwise I would walk you trough the screens.

Seriously tho, there are not a whole lot of options so it should be an easy find.

That doesn't work with some BIOS, for example when reverting back from 502 to 107. And I know how to configure a very simple program like ASUSUpdate, but thanks anyway

I agree, show me that Asus Update will flash from 601/602 to the release bios 107, and i will be a believer....

Update: It happened again with the 601 bios. So I assume it wasn't caused by the 602 bios. I will try updating my video card bios and see if that helps. The problem is random and infrequent which makes troubleshooting difficult.

Research indicates that this is usually a mb bios, memory, graphics card issue. It's usually not the video card, but an interaction between the video card and system memory. Remember, XP can Address a maximum of 4GB, and that includes your video card memory. That's why you see less than 4GB of memory in Windows (usuallly 3.25 to 3.50 GB reported in Windows).

I've been playing the same game everyday, so since this problem happened for the First time after the bios update, it may be the bios. Memory checks out fine with MemTest for 8 hours.

If it happens again, I will go back to 601.

I also decided to bump my memory voltage from 1.9 to 2.0v (The G.Skill memory calls for 2.0 ~ 2.1). Since the P5E MAY overvolt by .05, I should be within spec.

Well I tried 602 for awhile but I prefer 601 for my 8400 so I went back to the 601.

Open Asus bios update, click on the arrow tab open the box where it says update from internet update from file and so on. On the bottom of the box click on options then hit next. Then click on Downgradable, then you can go back to your fav bios.

Open Asus Update. Click the drop down menu. Select the last item "Options". Click "BIOS Downgradable". DONE.

I have reverted from 0601 to 0203 with NO PROBLEMS. I never tried going all the way back to 0107, seems pointless to go that far back. Don't see why it wouldn't work going back to 0107 though since 0203 is nearly as old.

Hell, I've tried every ASUSUpdate version and it simply doesn't work with some BIOS. Maybe the board has something to do with it, mine is one of the earliest. But I can assure you 203 --> 107, and every BIOS above 203 to 107 was a no go. The only way to do it was force a BIOS corruption, so Crashfree BIOS comes to the rescue so you insert the original CD that has 107 in the P5E.ROM file to flash it back. Read a few pages back, I'm not the only one having this problem.

Why would I want to go back to 107 rms8? Because if you are not using a CPU that requires a newer BIOS version, that BIOS was the best, by far, in stability, perfomance and RAM clocking for me. The only reason I'm using 602 is because my E8400 it's not supported by earlier BIOSes. BTW, those with 2x2 are loving 602 over 601 and 502, tRFC adjustable way above 42 is very useful for us. And I find this BIOS much more stable than 601 for some reason. 2x2GB kits are VERY sensitive to some timmings, maybe ASUS changed some of them with this one One example:

Oh and EZ-Flash is a no go too.

What voltage are you pushing to the cpu, what cooling are you using, is it in a cramped case, did you do any wire tending to make sure airflow is good, etc. These are all things that could cause high temps with nothing being wrong at all with the mobo or temp readings.

On the other hand I am going to have to flash to 602 to see if that corrects an incorrect reading of my Xeon 3075's temp as 2C. Haha, I wish I could achieve that with simple air cooling. So it could be the bios version you have reading temps wrong. Check all the things I mentioned in the first paragraph first though since if that's all jacked then a bios flash isn't gonna help you anyway.

FYI, I've had zero problems with this memory, no matter what the bios revision at 4-4-4-12, 1.9v-1.96v, at DDR2-800:
    -- HIGHLY RECOMMENDED P5E MEMORY --
    G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) (F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ) DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) $159.99

    -----------------------------------

However, this other G.Skill 2gb memory would NOT run at 4-4-4-12 without Memtest errors (worked fine with 5 timings):

Hey INTREPID it is nice to see someone using the right memory here for a change!! The G.Skill 6400HZ is the only memory to run with....

Now you need to experiment with your different dividers cuz the 6400HZ is Xtremely flexible! And if you ccan't get your cpu higher you will get more out of it by running your mem faster.
Here are 3 examples of what I am getting at. This is all with my E8400 I can show you the same results with my Q6600
Guys Get this G.Skill 6400 HZ if you want to get ultra clocks.
    This board just loves it!!!

OK 1st Aquamark3 with mem set at 1:1

OK now the mem on the 5:6 divider

And last of all the mem on the 3:4 divider whisch has this mem running at DDR1271 !! And now check out not only th overall score but compare cpu scores too!!

Get this mem fellas it really performs on this board

Or you can get other stuff and just piss and moan till you are blue in the face!!......

Meanwhile I'll be waiting for a colder night so I can beat my best benches to date!!

info for those who got a e8400 and a p5e

i just found out the stock NB voltage on AUTO is 1.342(dmm) on my board so it makes the color coding kinda confusing since the stock voltage is already in the yellow range.

i had problem OCing my e8400 and since i know that i've reduced my vcore considerably, and it still stable running 1.41(bios)>1.419(dmm)

i'll try to push it more, but right now i'm trying to find my lowest stable vcore @ 4ghz, i'm currently @ 1.306(bios) 1.292(dmm) 1.288(everest)

I agree. I had them running at 534MHz (5-5-5-12-4-35) at 1.90v in bios. They are rock solid. I have two kits and I have one kit for sale. I am currently trying 2x1GB PC2 9600 Team Xtreem and they seem to be rock solid also. I got them from Newegg with a $100 rebate. I have never had any memory problems on this board.

    Voltage Reminder for the E8400:

Maximum Voltage on the box: 1.225
Maximum Voltage in written spec: 1.3625

Intel states voltages above 1.3625 will result in permanent damage.

I've have seen some people running 1.4v to 1.5v with this CPU !! Crazy!

That's interesting. So apparently the board overvolts RAM (.057v) as well as the NB (.092v).

I can't hit 500FSB with new 602 Bios. Spent 2-3 hours last night trying to get there and the only thing I got for my trouble was a Boot Loader error when I tried booting back to Vista with a missing winload.exe error. Had to repair from install disk. In 501 all I had to do was set RAM to 1:1 and bump the Vcore.
