I can't believe there is not any speculation about the 8900 series yet? Isn't 8900 series going to compete with ATI's new offerings?

From what we've seen, Nvidia may be skipping the 8900s and going straight to G90 by the end of the year. Plus, if they were planning on releasing the 8900s, then they would most likely be out by now.

    65nm, DX10, VP3, MSRP ~$60

    PCHome.net Translated link

    VP3 i'm assuming is a Video Processor.
Most likely just a budget HTPC card like the G78 (65nm 7300).

Hmm 8800GTS is known as G80-100 so i wonder what the 200/400/etc are... :O
Also I think ATI need to start doing this sort of thing in anticipation of new graphics cards since whenever they get released they never have drivers for them since they only release them with some crappy inf editted ones from 3-4 months back...

This is what I was looking for ghost. I just jumped on the PNY 8800GTS 320MB for $230 from buy.com deal and wanted to be sure that there wasnt a replacement card out soon.

I jumped on a 7800gt and kicked myself in the butt when the 7900gt series came out overclocking to 7900gtx speeds.

Yes, but a 8800gts overclocked is not = to a stock 8800gtx due to the pipeline or shader limits. The 7900GT actually passed stock GTX speeds, scores, and benches when overclocked with a little volt mod vs a stock 7900GTX.

The GTS also has a smaller memory bus, being 320bit vs 384 bit.

i wonder when nvidia will let loose their 8800GS, or 8850GT, 8800GT

the performance of the 8600GTS is awful, there's no reason to buy these. imho nvidia will have to release something between the 8800GTS and the 8600GTS

I reckon we might see a 8700, 65nm, 48/64 shaders, 256/512MB 256bit GDDR3/4, 7900 PCB. It would fit the performance gap nicely but there's no price gap for it to fit into. At least until the 8600's drop $50+.

    Still, it's unlikely...

    Cycle is:

    R600XT > 8800GTX
    8800Ultra > R600XT
    R600XTX > 8800Ultra
    8900GTX > R600XTX

Either way, Nvidia knows about R600's yield limitations...so if it didn't launch the 8900 series until next year, it would still be ok.
